Superman is arguably the world's most iconic and recognizable comic book superhero, and now he's gained a new power! The Super Flare expels all the solar energy he's stored up in his cells in one MASSIVE explosion! Could this new ability mark a baseline shift for Superman? We might all be used to a Superman who can fly and shoot heat vision from his eyes, but he wasn't always that way. He has changed a lot from his first appearance in Action Comics #1 from 1938. He's not only gained many new pow...

If Batman has a photographic memory, then he must be able to look back on the night his parents were murdered in extreme detail and use that as motivation for bringing justice to Gotham. But what if he trained to acquire an eidetic memory after the death of his parents? Would his memory of that night actually be accurate, or completely warped and changed as he continues to reflect on it?
Does Bruce Wayne truly remember the night that his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, were killed? Let me kno...

Deadpool and Deathstroke may seem like very similar characters, but was Marvel's Merc with a Mouth truly a shameless rip-off from DC's Deathstroke? Did Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza intentionally set out to make a carbon copy of Slade Wilson when they created Wade Wilson? Or is it possible that the whole thing was a crazy coincidence and Deadpool's likeness to Deathstroke is completely unrelated or perhaps even subconscious? A lot of questions here, so let me know your thoughts in the comments!...

In the 1940s and 50s, comic books were under attack! There was a movement that believed comics were harmful to children and were the cause of juvenile delinquency in American youth. This crusade was led by Dr. Fredric Wertham, author of Seduction of the Innocent, and it eventually led to the creation of the Comics Code Authority.
The CCA was a super strict set of guidelines that comic book publishers had to follow in order to get any of their issues distributed. It also helped shape the face of...

We're going to revamp the Patreon page for this year to hopefully get more supporters on board. This will mean several things:
First, we're going to be merging the 1¢ and $2 tiers to become a single $1 tier full of all the best rewards from each. We are also going to be adding new rewards to the $5 tier to give you more bang for your buck, as well as potentially adding a new $10 tier with even more goodies!
If it sounds like I'm being vague about the rewards, it's totally intentional. I am h...

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is DC's latest animated film, and it centers around New 52 Aquaman. Naturally, we HAVE to talk about it! The movie retells Aquaman's origin in this new movie universe as well as adapting the Throne of Atlantis story arc from the comics. Did we love it? Did we hate it? It was definitely one of those answers, or probably some other one.
SPOILER WARNING for the entire movie! I forgot to mention that at the beginning of the podcast, but I hope you understand that ...

A lot of comic book characters have names that reflect their personality or alter ego, but what does Lex Luthor's name say about him specifically? It's most likely unintentional, but I believe that the name Alexander "Lex" Luthor tells a story and paints a picture about who Lex is and why he hates and wants to destroy Superman. Or maybe I'm a crazy person. It could definitely be that one.

As a lot of you may know (or at least should know) there is not a lot of money in YouTube. Not enough for one person to live off of, and there are technically four members of the NerdSync team now. This Patreon is a nice little bonus and we sincerely appreciate all of you who help out each month, but it's unfortunately not nearly enough to cover the bills. So now I have a question to ask. Actually, I have several.
I am instinctively against advertising and sponsorships in videos. NerdSync has b...

One of Lex Luthor's identifying characteristics is the fact that he's bald, but he wasn't always. So how did Lex Luthor lose his hair in the first place? Well, there are a few reasons in the comics to why this happened that range from natural hair loss to more exciting backstories involving his hair being burned off. But the first time Luthor appeared bald in a comic was not an intentional choice, but a complete accident!
Every Wednesday, Comic Misconceptions explores fascinating trivia, crazy...

The Flashpoint comic event from DC thew us into an alternate timeline with alternate versions of DC's heroes and villains. Captain Marvel (or Shazam) in this universe was instead a hero called Captain Thunder who is summoned when six kids say that magic word in unison and transform into the hero. But where did this idea come from? Well, it actually links back to the very beginning of Captain Marvel's history from an unpublished idea from the mind of Bill Parker!

Marvel also has a few characters by the name Captain Marvel as well, most notably being Carol Danvers. So who actually owns the name "Captain Marvel"? More specifically, how did the trademark slip through DC's grasp and end up in the hands of the folks over at Marvel? You can't talk about the history of Venom without talking about the history of Spider-Man's black symbiote suit! So let's do that, then. Today, we're talking about how a random comic book fan came up with the idea of Spider-Man's black costume which was introduced in the Secret Wars comic event, and how the fans hated it so much that the writers turned the suit into an evil alien symbiote just so Spidey would get rid of it. Also, learn about the true story of how Venom was originally supposed to...
