Digital downloads are here!

Hello Patrons!

As you may know already thanks to my space-themed tier names, I am just a WEE bit obsessed with space travel. Needless to say, when the Mars rover landed this past month I was glued to the screen. These complex machines fascinate me and I love the idea that we can actually see footage of the Perseverance rover all the way up on Mars. How COOL is that??

This months perks feature the Perseverance rover, the Atlas V rocket, and the little wee Ingenuity drone that all m...

Patrons only comic: The boundaries bomb

Oh MAN is this ever a learned skill. Listen. I love saying yes SO much, especially to people I like. I am so very lucky to get to work with largely people that I truly think are wonderful. This is amazing but it also means that saying "no" can feel like an absolute disaster.

Except that it's not.

I mean sometimes it's not well received sure. But my experience is that a forthright no is FAR better for any relationship than a resentful yes. And even those nos that DO go over badly? ...

Hey Patrons! Have you taken one of my paint pouring classes?

Working on a new Skillshare class and if you've taken Fluid Acrylic or even just tried it at home, I'd love to hear from you! What problems did you have? Any pouring pitfalls you noticed? Let me know and I'll incorporate it into the class!

Big love for being my favourite sounding board.

Be well,

Be my Quarantine?

Ohhh loves. February means VALENTINES Day which is something I haven't celebrated since grade school. BUT I do remember those adorable little retro valentines that used to go around and I wanted the perks this month to play with those designs.

Since we're still in the throws of this weird contactless world, I wanted to design some pandemic-appropriate vday sayings to go with the retro-inspired designs. Attached are your wallpaper downloads and I can't wait for the mail tiers to see thei...

January Sketchbox : Amanda Gorman Portrait

Hello you wonderful Patrons,

I don't know if anyone else has treated themselves to Amanda Gorman's incredibly inspiring performance but I heartily recommend it. This month's Sketchbox video was along time coming but once I saw her speak, I couldn't paint her portrait quick enough.

Enjoy the box breakdown this month and a huge thank you to all of you for being such a lovely source of inspiration to me, and making it possible for me make these videos for you.

Patrons only comic: Sticky Brain

Hello dear Patrons.

I posted a painting I've been working on on socials and I knew I wanted to talk about it in this month's Patrons only comic. I've been thinking about my sticky brain a lot lately. After the monstrous news about the attacks on Capitol Hill, I was in full on sticky-brain mode and some of those images were REALLY hard to shake.

During the coverage, I saw this incredible image of staffers carrying the boxes of congressional votes to safety - escorting them out of t...

Bonus comic! WHY do we do this??

Little early peek at a comic and a concept I’ve been thinking about. Anyone else coach inanimate objects like they’re somehow gonna take it to heart?? WHY am I telling my water glass not to fall over??

Happy Thursday you wonderful Patrons. Thanks for making me space to make comics even if sometimes I make them about the WEIRDEST things. 🧡

Ugly Sketchbook Stream!

Hello lovely Patrons,

I popped onto Instagram live this eve to do some doodling and some noodling about the nature of resolutions and how I'd like to take a bit of a different approach to them this year.

I wanted to pop this in here because you are all a huge part of how I'm able to take this time and sort my thoughts while I wind down my daily sketching practice.

I hope if you're making resolutions this year that they give you energy rather than tax it, and that if you're l...

Peace out 2020.

Patrons!! We did it!! 2020 is OVER! I mean, happy new year to all but also THANK HEAVEN. Now I'm not saying 2021 just washes away all the madness BUT isn't it nice to have the feeling of a fresh start?

For the January wallapers, I was looking at the animals associated with 2020 and 2021 according to the Chinese horoscope. We've just made it through the year of the rat and we're headed into the year of the ox. I never thought I'd want to run from a rat towards an ox, but here we ar...

Well there’s definitely a THEME

Hello beautiful Patrons,

There’s a trend on Instagram called Top Nine where you see the most popular posts from the year. Not surprisingly for me this year comics about this weird alternate reality are all the rage in 2020.

I wanted to post it here before it goes anywhere else because comics are a HUGE part of how I’m able to process this bizarre pandemic-tinted world and the reason I can do it is YOU.

Thank you. You’re helping me put some little funny spin on this cr...

Early look at the ROLLER COASTER

Hello beautiful Patrons!

I wanted to share this here before it goes anywhere else. I love the process of making but it DEFINITELY tosses ya around a little bit! There’s a curve of excitement followed by the “can I even do this” slog and I think it’s super helpful to see it drawn out and made a bit silly.

Do you get new project excitement? Middle of the process blahs? I still wouldn’t get off the roller coaster for anything!

Be well wonderful folks. Thank...

Season 3 Finale of the Sketchbox Unboxings!

Wow. End of season 3 for reals? MAN do I ever love learning about art supplies.

Time truly does speed by so I painted this slow sloth to remind me to take a minute and appreciate rest, even when the world is a circus.

Thank you beautiful Patrons for being a bright spot during one heck of a year. You're wonderful.

Take it slow if you need to. You're allowed.

The Magic of the Shared Mission

Hello you wonderful Patrons. This month’s exclusive comic, I was thinking about how much I love the pieces I get to make this time of year. There are always commissions on the go here at Art in Jest HQ, but these days I work on a particularly high number of special pieces that someone has asked for because they want to give art to someone they love. I get to commemorate people and pets, make family portraits, draw childhood homes, paint shelf portraits...we get to go through this process to...

Little livestream from Insta!

Hello lovely folks.

I had so much fun mailing out your perks this month. Wanted to pop this video over here if you'd like to catch me doing some tech-struggling followed by drawing and musing and wondering and thinking out loud. Little livestreams can be such a nice way to clear your thoughts!

I was thinking about expectations and the stress they can cause...fitting with the theme of the LOAFLIFE designs this month! Thank you for being a support AND a place to clear my ...

Early look for you beautiful Patrons!

Hello lovely folks. I can’t wait for you to get this month’s perks! They turned out pretty great I think :)

I wanted to share this little comic here for you before it goes out on socials. I run to let my “inner child” run rampant when o need the creativity and impulse to go wild BUT it always has some interesting side effects...cleaning up after myself is a constant struggle. WORTH IT.

What do you do to get your creative side to come out?

Hope you’re letting that...

WELL. Here we are in the holiday season with all manner of weirdness happening all over the world. The holidays can be a time of immense pressure at the best of times and the feeling that we need to "make it work" might be even stronger than ever.

The LOAFLIFE series is meant to remind us that sometimes you just gotta put on feetie pyjamas and eat snacks off your tummy y'know? If you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed or just fatigued and need to take ...

Little Ugly Sketchbook Stream

Just wanted to pop this video over here for you beautiful people. The Ugly Sketchbook streams are such a nice way for me to ramble around my brain and do some drawing at the same time.

What are you practicing these days? Patience? Knitting? Juggling? Parkour? I'm always working against that instinct to only do things I'm immediately good at. Why are we so self conscious about our learning process? Let's celebrate those mishaps! It means we're working near our edge.

Ugly Sketchbook Streams behind the scenes

Hello Lovely Patrons!

Some of you folks know I've been doing some livestreaming over on Instagram where I just wander around my thoughts a little bit and get more in shape for sketching and speaking simultaneously (say that five times fast).

After the stream, I post them over on YouTube and I wanted to share one here with you guys along with a little bit of the behind the scenes / thought process for these streams.

I realized that I was working through all kinds of dif...

Patreon Exclusive Comic: On Virtual Connection

Ohhh Patrons. What a strange strange time. I wanted to make this month's Patreon exclusive comic about the things that have changed, but also the things that are the same when teaching virtually.

I am SO very lucky to have the set up I need and the space I want to be able to deliver virtual sessions. It feels safer and smarter right now of course, but also it's something that I recognize is a huge privilege to be able to do.

I LOVE teaching workshops. My little extroverted h...
