In December 2020 I talked about my plan to become a full-time game developer in 2021.
I am writing now to tell you it has happened!
My plan to become a full-time game developer has been realised as I start my new job as a Game Programmer for a well-known team.
My commercial software engineering job was great and I will be sad to leave it, but this is my dream job.
Releasing my first game on Steam has been pretty amazing.
I thought I'd share with you what has happened so far.
Here come the stats:
Store
Steam has held me to a pretty high standard in order to just get the the game on the store. I feel this has had a positive influence on the creation of the game and the store page.
You may have noticed that I have not been streaming the last few weeks.
This is because Plexstorm have been having some issues with funding and credit card fraud.
As a result the website is unavailable.
I am in contact with some mods on Discord and the message is that the platform is not dead and that they are working on a solution.
No timeline has been given for when that might occur.
Why does this keep happening?! Another 50/50 split?!
Even on reddit and Twitter comments were split down the middle.
You know what that means. I have to be the deciding vote.
After reading your comments and weighing the two options I decided to go with option
B: Show dialogue in a classic VN box.

IT'S HAPPENING! My game dev dreams are coming true.

Unfortunately I have had to push the Early Access release of Bedroom Blackjack to Saturday 28 Aug.

It's just one week and it's the last time. I promise!
Here is what held up the release.
I am still waiting on some 2D art that will allow me to replace the placeholder art that I was using for my testing.
It is illegal for me to use this art in a commercial product so it has to go before I can release.
With August just around the corner I am spending all my time in preparation for the Early Access release of Bedroom Blackjack.
I don't think I will have time to make any game releases in that time so I cannot in good conscious take your patronage.
If you are an existing patron you will notice no change and you will be billed again in September.
If you are not a patron then I don't believe you will be permitted to become a patron until September.

I feel this will add a little more depth to the campaign/date mode.
I have already got some cool ideas around things the dealers will say when you first meet them and when you defeat them.

I spent much of January adding polish items to the game like the Main Menu and finalising the game saves.
This is an Beta so expect to find many things to be missing and even some bugs. I have not included any optimisation so some older PCs might struggle to run it.
