What do you think of these review style videos?

Pencil time - ebony pencils

Dark graphite/ebony pencils are fun! I'm gonna draw a mushroom forest nymph and play with a few.

nEW sketchbook collection

I'm not going to make these a certain number of pages.... but at least 10. So here's another sketchbook collection! This one has pages from both my large and small sketchbooks. I figured it would be better to put out collections with both rather than waiting longer to keep them consistent.

Anyway I hope you like it! Here's the link :]

Rabbit Chasseur

Here is a brief overview of my process on this piece. I've enjoyed putting these together and I think it can be enlightening to see the drawing evolve from reference to sketch to final in sequence. For me it is pretty essential to plan out a detailed piece like this, using reference to capture the detail of the uniform and create a believable anthropomorphic character.

All of the line work and grayscale was done in graphite, which I then painted over with watercolor. In this case I used...

New thing: sketchbook collections

It is always kind of a pain to scan a sketchbook all at once. To avoid that i'm now going to scan my sketchbook bit by bit as I complete it. Blah blah the cool part is I'll be uploading collections of scanned sketchbook bits to google drive so you can view & download them to your heart's content! This is a patron only perk and a small thank you for all your support! The collections will have a few files labeled "BG_(something)" that will work great as phone backgrounds :]

Reference & process

This drawing was a commission of a red fox in a 95th Rifle Brigade uniform. I had seen this uniform before somewhere and I wanted to capture all of the unique details. I only used simple reference but without it my job would have been a lot tougher without it. I spent a page in my sketchbook figuring out the shape of the fox's head and sketched a small thumbnail to get the composition right. This took a bit more planning and preparation than usual but it was certainly worth it. After setting ...

How to part with your art?

In general this references selling your art or giving it away, but it can also refer to the feeling of moving on from one piece to another. I hope you like it!

I'll be making some more postcards to send out! If you haven't already please message me your shipping info if you want one :]

Trujillo, Othello, new vids

There's a few new timelapse videos on my youtube channel!

I've enjoyed this format of recording the drawing process and the voiceover separately, it feels a lot more natural.

Sertholokar

Sertolokar Arkatathmaton

Ser for short. He is one of only a few remaining soldiers of a once great army. His sense of duty is unparalleled and is far greater than simply choosing a side in a war.

Ser is worldly and pragmatic. He deeply desires to affect change larger than himself. This keeps him incredibly focused, but that focus can lead him to ignore input from others. Ser is kind and fiercely protective to the rare few that are able to win his respect.

Fun fact~ he'...

Thank you :]

Hello everyone! I just wanted to say thank you for your support! Making a post and letting you know how thankful I am is great, but I want to do a bit more. Its been a little while so I think it is time to send out some rewards. I've made a whole mess of small drawings that I'll be mailing within the week. If you don't already have your address listed please message me so I can send you something as well!

I hope you have a great day!

Cover image :D

I absolutely love drawing these two. That's a good thing as I'll have to draw them 1,000,000,000 more times over the course of this comic.

I scan the pencil drawing and use photoshop to raise the contrast until the darkest areas appear black. You can do the same with most simple image editors, including instagram's built-in editor. I haven't done any sort of cleanup, I like the rough-around-the-edges look. I'll clean it up a bit before finalizing it for the comic but if it were just a s...

Ellestse

Who else would be up next?

Elleste is mammalian with the features of a rabbit. Despite her soft features she displays a surprisingly tough attitude. Elleste is very social and adventurous, much more so than Spriggan. They compliment each other's weaknesses with their own strengths. Elleste can be impulsive when she feels strongly about something, but she sees this as courage.

Elleste is fast and cunning, possessing an awareness of her surroundings that few others can boast. She ca...

originally it was a big beetle

When I drew rough thumbnails for this scene Spriggan was actually going to be facing off against a giant hercules beetle guy. I switched it to a moth guy, Othello. He's definitely one of the main characters so it made more sense. The beetle guy is important too, but I thought this would frame the conflict more clearly. I also decided to drop a bunch of pages from this already brief preview comic. I want to jump into the story as fast as possible. As i've said in previous posts I wanted to mak...

First video of 2019

Hey everyone! This is my 4th attempt at recording a video. I've been struggling with my hardware & setup but I just wanted to get something out. I hope to be able to upgrade soon and put out some higher quality videos. I guess i'll be taking it one step at a time. I hope you like it!

I need to add some sort of text?

If you've seen any of my comics in the past you probably notice how little dialog/text there is. I like to focus on the visual flow and composition first. Obviously the characters need to have conversations, but I like to tell the story within the drawings as much as possible. When i'm reading a really wordy comic it ruins my suspension of disbelief. I feel like the characters are talking out loud for the reader's benefit and it kinda ruins the immersion. I've seen a few comics that have well...

Spriggan

Its been a long time since I worked on Errant and a long time since i've introduced any of the characters. If you follow me on social media then you may see some familiar faces!

Spriggan is the main character in Errant. The story unfolds primarily from her perspective and she will even narrate from time to time. There are many different types of people or "species" in this world, Spriggan is mammalian with cat-like features. She is slender, agile, and incredibly intuitive, but is easily...

Maybe i'll clean up those smudges later

~but probably not. I think they look kinda nice.

Hello! Here's another page! This is going to be a 10-ish page teaser comic for Errant. I like to think of it as a movie trailer. Its a lot of fun and it allows me the chance to figure out the art style and make changes before I dive straight in. I have huge ideas in my head for this comic. It will probably end up as a graphic novel-length thing.

I'm not really the kind of writer that puts anything on paper. I draw rough thumbn...
