How Insensitive

Have you heard of Eugen Cicero (27 June 1940 - 5 December 1997)? He was a Romanian pianist, and one of my favorites to listen to. He did brilliant jazz arrangements of classical pieces from Chopin to Bach. As a classically-trained pianist whose favorite composer is Chopin, I love Cicero's music!

This is his take on How Insensitive, by Antonio Carlos Jobim (Jobim).

What can I do with a $299 piano?

A brief departure from my standard video format. Glarry, a keyboard manufacturer, sent me this keyboard so I could make a video review. Here's a little piece I created using various voices, followed by an honest review of the product.

Sneakpeak Into My Upcoming Course

If you weren't aware, 2022 is the year of my piano course! I'm building an online piano course from scratch which will include hours of video lessons, transcriptions, other sheet music resources, homework, and guided practice. My goal is to address a big problem in jazz education.

In 2013 when I started my jazz journey, coming from the classical world, I looked everywhere for lessons and tutorials to help me learn how to improvise. I was a bit discouraged as every resource I found was great at telling you what to do, but didn't help you with how to do it

This course is designed for the many pianists like me in 2013, who want to learn jazz but feel overwhelmed with tons of not-so-helpful videos about 2-5-1s and bebop and tritone substitutions and modes and licks and on and on... This will be a practical, step-by-step guide with guided practice routines to build up your bebop vocabulary, knowledge, and dexterity.

Now's the time to give me your feedback on this course: what would you like to learn? What do you wish to see in a piano improvisation course that isn't available? Let me know in the replies!

Tigran Hamasyan Time Signature Challenge

I've pulled this snippet from Tigran Hamasyan's Nairian Odyssey, and slightly changed the rhythm from the original, so the time signature is different. I'd be very surprised if someone can figure out the time signature to this by listening! The rhythm was really tough to play, but in my first 2-3 iterations the time signature is most clear.

Submit your response in the giveaway channel of my Discord server (https://discord.gg/3XUkW9ZwcK), and the winner will get the Tutorials and Exercise bundle, which includes PDFs and MIDIs for:

Oscar Peterson| Mirage

This is actually the very first transcription I ever did. Back in 2013 when I was just discovering jazz in college, coming from my classical days, I discovered this and wanted to play it so I transcribed it. I’d published it on my old channel, and here it is revised, reformatted, and with chord symbols.

When I originally transcribed this, I wondered if Peterson was improvising most of this. I found a second rendition of Mirage on YouTube, so while OP indulges in a little bit of creative freedom in the right hand, most of the piece is composed.
