Back with Aladdin part 2. I think this was the weekend we crammed in three different episode recordings over three day period and this was the last day, and you can tell we're a little loopy.
Jon, as always, does a fabulous job in the DM chair. It's so interesting for me, now having done this show for multiple years, watching someone else DM. Jon was the DM of the first RPG I ever played and is really the only DM I've played a significant amount of time with. But most of the time ...

Well the most immediately interesting thing to say about this episode is that it was recorded over a year ago. Welcome to the scheduling nightmare that is the Film Reroll, this seems as good a time as any to shed some light on why we often end up airing episodes we recorded so long ago, as it seems to be a huge mystery for the listeners.
First thing is, we're all super busy. I'm crazy busy. It's hard to get everyone in a room with multiple hours to spare. The thing that's unique about t...

Hard episode to talk about without you hearing it, so I won't talk details in this one. I sure loved playing it. It's a unique episode, as you'll soon hear.
I think it's our first three-hour episode. It sets up another in our long list of upcoming promised sequels (as you'll hear). Ah, yes, the sequels, that's something I can take the time to talk about. No, we haven't forgotten about them. It's really just a matter of scheduling. But I'm definitely looking forward to t...

What an adventure! Sometimes you're working hard to spin what the dice give you into a satisfying story. And sometimes the dice just give you gifts. This episode definitely falls into the latter camp.
Goonies is in a way our biggest episode so far. Rogue One was just as long, but that was only three players. To manage five players for such a long campaign was somewhat exhausting but tremendously rewarding. Hope it was as fun to listen to as it was to play.
We're back in two weeks ...

I can't even explain to you the narrative richness of the backstories on Peartree island. There's at least three Checkhov plays worth of conflict and history on that island. It's honestly just what my brain does when I start to think about a setting, but normally I get to do it with more fantastical or sci-fi lore. Peartree island, in spite of it's magical-realism and 80's children's movie sense of wonder, still needs to be a much more grounded place than Oz, and it's really not that bi...

Part 3 of Goonies. Where it really goes off rails. Like really.
It's been kind of challenging to channel Goonies, which is sort of a scattered movie. The real power of it is that doing crazy adventure junk feels like it fits into the movie. It sort of encourages a sense of abandon in our playstyle. This is the episode where I think we really started to enjoy that abandon.
We also do a scene from Iron Man 3, as part of a patreon request. Boy that one turned out fun. I h...

Another episode in the books, as the Goonies saga will be among our longer ones. I really love the vibe in the room when we have these big sessions with a lot of actors, but it's pretty hard to manage the game in our set-up and get the audio right, and rangle everyone, so it stays a rare treat when we get to do it.
The nice thing with the big sessions is also getting the whole FR crew together. When we recorded the first one, everyone stayed over in my backyard for drinks and bbq. After...

This one's gonna be a saga, folks. Very excited to be getting this one out there. I think it's a ton of fun. And while this one's really ended up being very different from the original. I think Goonies is less a plot and more a sort of attitude which has suffused the whole proceedings. So I hope you will feel as I do, that all this silliness is really quite in keeping with the original. And since silliness is what we do best, this movie was always going to be in our wheelhouse.
(And yes...

We're back with John Wick part 2. This is officially the only Film Reroll movie I (Paulo) haven't seen. And I still haven't seen it. Now I feel like I need to do something for when I finally see it after all this anticipation.
Andy is such a blast to play with. He has such a great energy that makes his gameplay so engaging. He has such an eye for character, and such a flair for description. The vibe in the room is so good when he's running it.
This episode was actually recorded in...

We've been talking about unconventional castings almost since the first episode of the show. And we've definitely had weird casting forced on us because main characters fell out of the story, or were never introduced, or because extras got elevated to principals through the story. But this is the first time we've taken it on as a founding concept. Andy had a great idea for John Wick as a tower defense game. The result is kinda wacky but a whole ton of fun. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!...

Hi all,
You may have noticed by now that we no longer have the $100 "Select a Scene" tier! We're sorry- we hate removing options, but honestly you've helped us grow to the point where we aren't able to accommodate these short one-off scenes; we need all our free time to keep going on full-film adventures in order to stay on track with our new release schedule! (Which, thank you for all of your support- you've helped us grow so much as to now have a DEDICATED Assistant Editor!!!)

Another finished movie in the can, and I gotta say I love this one. It becomes a very different movie in a way that I particularly love.
In other news, we've hit our 50th episode! It's crazy to me that we've done 50 of these. They're each such an undertaking. But it's such a joy to make these and be able to share them with the world, and quite frankly, we never would have made it here without you. So to all the Patreon supporters: Thank you so very much.
Here's to another 50 episodes and...

What can I say about this episode? This whole Weekend At Bernie's saga is pretty bonkers, but the original movie was pretty bonkers to begin with. I can't decide if the original movie intended its characters to be loathsome, or if it was an unfortunate combination of characteristics of the era, that are only revealed in retrospect. There's a fun game to the episodes in which the players don't watch the movie: I have to describe the characters in profound detail to the actors, so that they can em...

I've gotten a lot of requests to post the Reroll theme song so here you go. The theme song was created by me in an improv and there was more to that improv than the 32 bars you hear at the beginning of the show, but putting it out there meant me finding it and editing and generally cleaning it up, cause it was a pretty messy beast. Having done that, I now proudly present The Film Reroll Suite in C major (sort of), by Paulo Quiros.

Another dump of character sheets from our old campaigns. Slowly working our way through these. If you have any technical questions about how to run stuff, or character questions about why I built characters this way and not some other, feel free to ask them here and I'll try to knock them down.
Got some video content for the patreon in the works, (but my acting schedule has been overbooked lately, and the little time I have on the side has just been getting the reroll out on time.) Soon!

New episode is up!
Once you get past the bizarre central premise, a lot of Weekend at Bernie's is a tribute to 80's me-decade obsessive hedonistic capitalism. The percentage to which the movie is a parody of that culture is somewhere between 0% and 60%, but the exact number is difficult to determine. Of course our current era's relationship to the 80's is mostly parody, and we have a lot of fun engaging in that spirit. And just letting Pitr and Andy go full banter mode is half the point. This ...

Ok we're back with the thrilling conclusion of this movie. And I gotta say, this one was really thrilling to play, I hope it was as thrilling to listen to. The genre switch definitely upped the tension at the table, and the players were stressed out when Jason was coming for them.
If there's one thing I learned about these 80's style slashers is that making the horny teenagers one-dimensional characters isn't a flaw of these films, it's a required trait. You don't want to make the audience emp...

Hooboy, this was fun. So like a month and a half ago I decided to do a Friday the 13th movie and not tell the players we were doing a horror movie. I started working on the concept and watching Friday 13th movies, and the whole time I had this great idea that I had to keep secret from the players, and I was just so worried that it would get spilled or they would figure it out. And my players' bullshit detector is pretty high, and they know movies pretty well so it was going to be really tough to...

We did it! After being half-finished for like a year, Jurassic Park is complete! Probably the most requested movie we would get, and it's finally all complete.
Big thanks to all of you who have enabled this new bi-weekly schedule to become a reality. So far so good on releasing every other Tuesday. And it's all of you amazing people who make it possible.

So far so good on the new predictable release schedule. Thanks again to all the Patreon supporters who make this possible. You guys are the best! It's still a difficult schedule for us to maintain, but this will be the status quo going forward, and we'll post to the twitter or to here if there's a delay for any reason.

Some of you figured out we were doing Jurassic Park ages ago based on careful examination of a picture that Pitr put on twitter. The actual reason JP took so long to get here is because we hadn't finished it. Jonathan left town to do a show, and when he had got back we'd lost Andy to a contract being a resident writer somewhere. And literally for a year we always had someone unavailable. This is why I don't start putting out a movie until it's definitely done recording, and why we always have a ...

Another dump of old character sheets for your enjoyment.
How do you make a character sheet from a movie character?
First: Watch the movie carefully and note everything they do. They gotta have every skill and attribute they exhibit in the movie. Now, how good are they at these things? Sometimes characters in movies get lucky, sometimes they're good at what they're doing. Your call to interpret which it is.
Second: Extrapolate. If they were a cop, they need some cop skills, ev...

We're back on Rogue One! We're getting into a little action here and then some politics. Spoiler warning: this is not the last episode of Rogue One! Curious to hear all your thoughts on long campaigns like this one versus the shorter ones.
Rogue One is fun so far. Even though it doesn't seem like it, that movie is pretty on-rails for the heroes, even when they go to new places, there are events that happen no-matter-what, that pull us back on course. Hope you enjoy this one as muc...

New episode is out! Definitely our most combat and mechanics heavy episode. It's always a lot of fun to play, but for me the trick is always how to make it fun to listen to. That's always what I'm thinking about and what I'm most worried about succeeding in. Let me know if you like episodes like this, or if you prefer we stay away from action-heavy stuff.
But yeah, we had a blast doing it, and while it's a technical headached trying to get good sound while mic-ing that many people, but it real...

New episode is up! We had some serious technical difficulties associate with this episode so I'm glad it sounds ok in the end. It was a tremendously fun episode to record. We had more people on mic than we'd ever attempted before. This was supposed to be just a short scene to add to an episode of Rogue One an it accidentally turned into a two-parter. Enjoy!

Hey folks, I'm sure some of you remember the Dice Talk Blog, in which Jon was going to go into detail with game mechanics stuff. Well . . . he never really had enough free time to run it, and frankly the percentage of our audience that was interested in getting into the crunchy numbers wasn't high enough. So Dice Talk died a slow death but meanwhile we were left with nowhere to put the character sheets, which we had promised you guys. So we decided this would be a good place to put them.

We're back with Rogue One Part 3! I was really encouraged by how well this one went, it gets very dungeon-crawlery and I wasn't sure that would make good radio (after our thrown-out Die Hard episode kinda made me nervous about those kind of adventures) but I think it turned out very enjoyable. We certainly had a fun time recording it.

Ok, little behind the scenes story for the patreon. Pitr likes to riff a lot, while Scott tries to stay in character throughout. They were talking about this before the episode, and Pitr gave Scott three tokens to be used at any point within Rogue One, which when spent, means Pitr cannot say anything for the rest of that scene (unless it is specifically game play relevant.) You can hear me cracking up as Scott is eyeing those tokens throughout the episode, and ends up spending one of them.

Ok, here we go off into a long one. I spent a while researching Star Wars systems, but ultimately decided that for this movie, which is light on Force users, our regular GURPS would be better (our players are used to it and all.)
Rogue One has so many interesting possible story deviations, and I had a lot of fun planting secrets in this one. They came pretty close in part one to going off on a totally different story, which could have been fun. Anyway, excited for you all to hear this grand ad...
