Last night I scored a pretty sprite storm over Louisiana. The first sprite of the night (seen above) was a jellyfish that produced a faint ghost. This was the largest event of the evening. As the storm progressively weakened, I scored another dozen smaller sprite events. Here are some choice selections...

The SPC hatched a 5% risk for tornadoes over my precious property this evening. Strong shear, but lower CAPE and frontal forcing suggests to me (and current convective allowing models) that transient QLCS tornadoes along the squall is the likely threat (along with strong gusts bringing down a big pecan tree on top of my not-so-well anchored 1940's home.)
QLCS (Quasi Linear Convective System) tornadoes are often weak, transient, non-photogenic and sporadic. In the last 2 deca...

Looks like I'm being suckered into chasing this morning / afternoon. The close proximity tornado threat to my hometown Houston is overruling the horrible chase conditions. But what if???
The cellular storm mode / stovepipe dream appears to begin around 10-11am near our Bay area progressing eastward across the Sabine into Louisiana. There might be a window of 3-4 hours of prefrontal cellular storms before it all goes goobliglosh. Perhaps later developm...

Merry Christmas everyone. Attached is an 11x17 poster calendar file for you to download, print, give, share, or use as bedding for your parakeet.
I HEAR RUMBLES Right now...

Note the tornado warning over the Sabine river. Too dark and jungley for me to pull the trigger on a Louisiana chase today, however I'm hoping for some sprites later tonight (if this squall li...

Attached below is October's song of the Month. I have grandiose reason for making you guys wait, so thanks for the patience.
This song was performed bowing the low E-string of a guitar and scored during the creepy double-trouble tornado scene in my 2014 upload "The Day of the Twins." So we're gonna call this number just that. Its also part of the soundtrack in the upcoming video.
The secret scientific video I've been yapping a...

Hello Everyone,
Hope you're doing great. Right when I think I'm close to completing this beast of a video, the team and I come up with a must-include addition. However, the first pass IS complete and I'm so damn excited for you guys to see this. I've used your money to license storm video from several other chasers and It's turning out to be quite the group effort. Dr. Orf has given us permission to let us tell the story with some of his simulations. ...

I tried to have a fun Halloween lightning video completed by last night. Now I'm shooting for tonight or perhaps tomorrow night. "DEVILS TOWER" is coming ASAP.
In the mean time, I wanted to share an incredible video by fellow Patron Tommy about how to create clouds and lightning for film. How freakin' cool is this?!?!
In 2013 I uploaded this video and had to remove it around 2015 due to a copyright violation for using Mussorgski's composition "Night on Bald Mountain"... A risk I had to take. The idea was to recreate the Devil scene from Disney's "Fantasia" with real life video and time-lapse. Without this song, the video just doesn't work, so I've recreated my own version of the tune. I'll add that mix in the attachments below if you're curious. I'm playing bass, piano, ...

Still waiting on Dr Seimon to finish his precision measurements before i can complete this one. In the mean time, I'm working on the following videos. Thanks for your patience guys.

Hello everyone! Wanted to check in and let you know that I'm working non-stop on something extra super-duper-burrito special. The scientific team I work with has uncovered some incredible record-breaking tornado statistics. Dr. Anton Seimon is close to finalizing his analysis. Once he's done, the whole team and I will present the data on this channel with a visually stunning video. Optimistic ETA... 1-2 weeks.
'Til then.

We bought a new 80 year old house in August. 6 weeks later and the garage flooded complements of Tropical storm Beta. Beta's slow tracking brought spiraling rain bands training over my neighborhood. Roughly 48 hours of non-stop rain over already saturated earth was enough to flood half my garage with an inch of water. After a lot of digging, trenching and yard contouring, flooding should be prevented next round.
Now, back to editing the next YouTube video....

The last two evenings, California wildfire smoke brought dry hazy skies to SE Arizona. Today and tomorrow the SPC has upped SE Arizona to a marginal risk for storm outflow winds, however the NAM and HRRR are telling the same Nonsoon story.

Above is the more aggressive HRRR's Precipitation outlook for 7PM. Not complaining... Seeing lots of beautiful country out here.

Just prior to arriving in Arizona last night there were some dreamy CGs over the Chiricahua mountains (viewed from New Mexico). This evening and the next looks less favorable for storms, but out here, one tiny storm can deliver a portfolio worthy lightning shot. Have a look at the HRRR 2Z outlook...

A little activity south and west of Tucson perhaps? Now look at the NAM 1Z out...

In 2015 I sat down at my desk with a 1967 Gretsch guitar and played along with the storm footage above. The result was a moody piece that I've used a dozen times in my videos. I'm sure you'll recognize it. If I'm gonna make it public, it'll need a name. How about "Prelude to a storm in D minor?"

Last night I was finally able to see and capture the comet 40 miles outside Houston light pollution. Here’s how you can (kinda) see it...
WE COULD BARELY SEE IT with the naked eye. To us, it looked like a small cirrus cloud under the Big Dipper. Recommend bringing binoculars or a telescope. The further you are away from any lights, the better. Especially in the East where high humidity can scatter light everywhere hazing the horizon.
YOUR CAMERA CAN SEE IT really well. Mount it ...
