We recently watched (and finished) the AMC TV show: Halt and Catch Fire - I really enjoyed it!
"It's the early 1980s, and the spirit of innovation in personal computing is about to catch fire. Hot on the trail is a renegade trio -- a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy -- who risk everything to realize their vision of building a computer that can change the future."
For some reason I didn't get hooked right away, but the final 2 seasons were SO GOOD. The entire s...

Sometimes you just want to watch a stupid movie. Nothing hard to follow, nothing that will make you feel things - just a silly movie. We watched Jolt for all of those reasons but oh my god it was bad! Not just silly bad, not fun bad - just really bad!
Amazon Prime were really pushing it over the last few weeks so we figured it would be redeemable in some way. Oh lord, it's bad. If you're looking for a BAD film, watch it but don't blame me.

For September's Book Club, I'm reading: The Suspicions of Mr Whicher Or The Murder At Road Hill House (you can buy it here if you're interested in reading it, too). This book was sent to the PO Box from Ian, so thank you kindly!
"It is a summer's night in 1860. In an elegant detached Georgian house in the village of Road, Wiltshire, all is quiet. Behind shuttered windows the Kent family lies sound asleep. A...

This month I read My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh. I actually finished it in a few days! The font is big and the book itself isn't too big, so it was easy to just keeping reading.
The subject matter is tough - a lot of discussion on parents dying, cancer, self-loathing, depression... but I thought it was an incredible book.
Originally I was reading it before bed but I kept crying so I wa...

The other night I was in the mood for a creepy spook'em movie. Nothing too hard to follow, just a spooky movie, you know? We settled on The Visit, a M. Night Shyamalan film I never got around to seeing when it was first released in 2015.
I really enjoyed it!!
It's low budget. It's basic. It's nothing fancy. But honestly, I had some good scares and was genuinely surprised! It hasn't got the best ratings but who cares - I thought it was good spook'em!

Recently we started (and finished) The White Lotus. This new HBO show follows various families and employees at the White Lotus, a resort in Hawaii. It's so good, you guys. Really good. A bit shocking but I never knew exactly where the story was going to go.
It's only 6 episodes and the characters are incredible - all of them feel real and you really get to know them (for better or for worse!). While it can be really uncomfortable at times, I really enjoyed the show and...

I don't like superhero movies anymore - it feels like the same thing over and over again... so I wasn't overly hyped to see the new Suicide Squad. However, it's actually funny! And had character development! And I enjoyed it!
You don't need to see the first one to understand or enjoy this one - in fact, this one was FAR BETTER than the first one. I would really recommend it! (I even recommended it to my mum but it is pretty bloody, keep that in mind!)

Guess what? We have new artwork for our Patreon tiers! I worked with a woman named Iza (another foreigner who was living in the UK) who designed these super cute graphics!! Ahhh so cute!
People will see these when they view my main Patreon page before joining (or not). I thought it was a nice way to brighten up the page and add a little something special!
If you want to check out more of Iza's stuff, you can find her on IG: 2021-08-09 14:28:19 +0000 UTC

Hey Patreon!
This month I'm reading My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh (you can buy it here if you'd like to try it, too. Basically this woman hates life and people so she wants to spend the year asleep. It's dark and funny and grim, but a good read so far!
"Discover this deliciously dark satire on modern privilege"
"Savage, funny, frequently on the verge of teetering into lunacy...

Recently we watched A Quiet Place Part II. I LOVED the first film and thought it was such an interesting concept with some great spookems.
Part II is pretty much more of the same - same idea, same type of spooks, just the same. It's good and I enjoyed it, but it would have been nice to have something new or different added to the mix. But if you liked the first one, it's guaranteed you'll like the second one (because it's the same thing!)

Yes. We watched Pig - the film where Nicholas Cage is on the hunt to get his truffle pig back. Like John Wick but instead of avenging his dog, Nicholas is looking for his pig. Yes. That's the plot.
We both really enjoyed it!
Cage is a weird one but he's honestly great in this film - totally believable and a really interesting character. It's simple and to the point. I'd say: give it a shot!

Recently we tried watching Bloodlands (I think this was on BBC iPlayer?). Woof! We couldn't get into it. The acting was strange.. really strange. Otherwise I couldn't put my finger on exactly what sucked about the show. It had all the markings of a good show, but we quit after 2 episodes.
"Northern Irish police detective Tom Brannick discovers a suicide note that appears to be connected to an infamous cold case."
Also - wow, those are tough accents to understand!&...

Recently we binged the new show Hacks and I loved it. It's such a unique story with incredible acting. It's funny, it's dark, it's totally worth a watch!
"Hacks explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old."
If you're looking for a new show, I'd recommend this one!

We kept getting Netflix promos for the new movie The Devil Below so we decided to watch it. Oh my. Have a look at those Rotten Tomato scores... sums it up pretty well!
It's a pretty cool plot that could have been super creepy, but you could tell the movie didn't have the budget for it. People running around dressed as monsters... It's bad, guys. If you want to watch a silly horror movie, check it out on Netflix!

Recently I watched the new mini-series Time with Sean Bean - wow! It's scary! The show follows Bean during his time in prison and I realised: I really do not want to go to jail. No thank you.
It's only 3 episodes so it was a short-binge but it's very well done. Fantastic acting, great story and very scary.
I will admit, though. It's very... Northern. So Northern that I had to watch it with subtitles on - I couldn't understand the accents!!

The nice thing with most of the Conjuring movies is that they're typically decent, especially if you're in the mood for a spookem. We watched the latest one - The Devil Made Me Do It - and enjoyed it! It's fun and a bit silly but has some good spooks, good acting and an interesting story!
I liked that this particular story focuses around a court case, rather than solely on exorcising someone. A good watch overall!
