A little bit of Canada in London!

Back in 2017 (wow, so long ago, what does time even mean?) my girlfriends and I trekked into London! I think we were seeing a play, but we stopped off at the Maple Leaf beforehand. We had some Canadian beers and watched part of a hockey game on TV. It was weird how homey and comforting it was. I don't even really like hockey.

Have you been to the Maple Leaf? I hope it survives through Covid.

Weird but good! A Good-Weird!

Recently I watched Kajillionaire - I went into it knowing absolutely nothing. This one is STRANGE but I found it hard to look away.

The whole thing is bizarre but the acting is fabulous (Evan Rachel Wood is so so good and I almost didn't realise it was her!). Plus the plot is really unique and a bit heartbreaking!

This one is available to rent on Amazon UK (or download..)

Anyone else watch this one? Not the greatest Rotten Tomato audience score but tha...

This one is weird - but beautiful (for the right person!)

Okay. This one is weird, and I think it would be boring and off-putting for a lot of people.

But! If you like something a bit different, a bit arty, I would totally recommend I Love My Body!

While it's a French film, the language is English so you don't need to bother with subtitles. When you break it down, we've seen this story loads of times - but never with a severed hand.

If you're feeling a bit adventurous, give it a chance! Plus it's available on Netfl...

Surprisingly decent!

The other night, we watched The Rental (free on Amazon Prime UK!) and I was actually surprised! I thought it was going to be another pretty lame spookem, but I enjoyed it!

I thought it was shot well and it was an interesting idea (and it was free a...

Best homemade pizza!

My partner has perfected homemade pizza - it's truly beautiful and not too impossible, either!

We use this recipe for the dough - doesn't need kneading, just make it and leave it overnight : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cqYiUmutGI&t=240s

Then you need pizza sauce, mozzarella and your favourite toppings! We use a pizza stone in the oven as it really helps crisp up the base, but I ...

So goooood!

I finally got around to watching The Witch (or The VVItch)! I found it super creepy, eery, uncomfortable and spooky! The hardest part of the film is that the dialogue is all in a historical "New English" language which can be tricky to understand. But you'll get it.

It's certainly a slow-burn and arty spookem, so it's not for everyone. But I loved it.

Downloaded this one, but you should be able to rent it on Amaon Prime USA.

Pretty good!

I watched the new movie Promising Young Woman and it was pretty good! Honestly, I was quite surprised by the ending. There are some triggering sexual assault situations, so something to keep in mind...

Not my favourite movie, but worth a watch and a pretty unique storyline, too.

Someone asked if I could post where to watch these films! That's a good point. I procure movies via internet means... if you know what I mean... However I think this one is available to re...

February Book Club!

This month I'm reading Zoey Punches The Future in the Dick. A classic David Wong title. If you're interested in reading along with me this month, you can buy the book here.

My partner bought this one for me for Christmas - I really like David Wong books. Hopefully this one lives up to my favourites from him!

I know NOTHING about the plot but I like going into books knowing as little as possible....

January Book Club REVIEW!

This month I read The Guest List (you can buy it here if you're interested)!

While it wasn't the most groundbreaking book I've ever read (maybe my standards are high now that I've read so many good books last year) but it was still a decent read!

A few of the twists I saw coming from miles away, but a few of them really surprised me! Basically it's your typical murder mystery - everyone visits a...

Want to see Chicago?

Now that Patreon lets you post multiple pictures in one post (finally!) here's a look at my family's trip to Chicago! Shocking that it was over 10 years ago....

Some highlights of Chicago:

- Definitely do the Skydeck at Willis Tower (the glass box) - it was so neat! And scary!

- My mum found the BEST breakfast place that we went to every morning

- I didn't realise that there's so many rivers and canals thro...

The mystery trip to York!

A few years ago, two of my girlfriends and I took the train up to York for the weekend. And naturally, I left my camera at home!

Here's a few shots that my friends took - they were kind enough to let me steal their photos.

York was rainy and cold but such a beautiful city. I'd love to go back eventually - perhaps this time in nicer weather!

Wow, incredible!

Recently I watched the documentary The Dissident about the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. I really didn't know much about it originally, but the documentary clearly explains the complex story in a way that's easy to understand. I'm sure things were omitted and "dumbed down" a bit for us simple folk, but I found it was incredibly well-done!

A really fascinating documentary, certainly worth a watch!

I loved it!!

Remember those cute movies where some kid in the neighbourhood solves crimes, like Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys? Have you ever thought what happens when they grow up into a depressed 30 year old?

I watched The Kid Detective and loved it. Dark humour, really interesting story, some real surprises - I loved the film! A true 5/5 for me.

Pretty good!

Recently I watched I'm Your Woman (I think via Amazon Prime) - it was pretty good! A little bit slow at times, but an interesting take on a 70s crime film. A good 3.5/5 for me! Plus the outfits/costumes... so good.

Anyone watched it already?? I think it's worth a watch!

One of my recent favourites!

The other night I watched Sound of Metal and loved it!

I've never seen a film with this story line (no spoilers), plus the acting was incredible and really moving! I really recommend it if you're looking for something emotional (and fantastic) to watch. A solid 4.5/5 for me.

January Book Club!

For January I'm reading The Guest List (you can buy it here if you'd like to read along). There's a wedding on an island off of Ireland and someone dies. Who did it??

It won Best Thriller on Goodreads so I thought I would give it a chance! Fingers crossed!

I'll check back in at the end of the month with a review and see how you guys found it!

December Book Club REVIEW!

This month I read The Alice Network - I really liked it! You can buy it here if you're interested. It's pretty thick and I didn't think I would be able to finish it in time, but I enjoyed it so much that I could easily read for a few hours each sitting.

I really liked that the book has 2 alternating stories - one during the First World War and one that takes place just after the Second World War finishes. I...

Good? Bad?

Recently I watched another 2020 film - The Wolf of Snow Hollow! At first I was like: "Wait. Is this bad? I'm not really sure. Is it so good that it's going over my head? Or is it just bad?"

In the end, it's just a little bit strange! I'd still recommend it if you're looking for something to watch, but I couldn't honestly tell while watching it if it was a good movie or not.. Sometimes that happens!

Anyone seen this one? So strange!

Great film!

I recently watched Possessor (the uncut version) and really enjoyed it!! It's pretty blatantly violent and strange, but I thought it was a really cool concept and a good film! Sci-fi meets violent assassin!

Most of the movie (if not all) is filmed in the Toronto area so you can see a bit of Canada! Cool!

Anyone else watched this one yet? It's getting bad audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes but I wouldn't let that sway you.
