Hello, Great British Bake-Off? Why am I not invited to be on the show??
Last night on our monthly Best Buds livestream, I made my first ever cake - a Victoria sponge! And it tasted like a cake, too!! Exciting stuff!!

This month I read The Girl With All the Gifts (you can buy it via the link on Amazon). I really enjoyed it!
Like I've talked about before, it's easy to read and really easy to get into. After struggling through the first few chapters of Paradise Lost, I was grateful for something simple!!
While classified as a "thriller/horror" I don't think it's scary and that shouldn't put you off from reading it! I thought th...

Recently I watched Greyhound! For a movie that takes places on one boat, it was really interesting! The story follows a WWII international convoy across the North Atlantic while they're hunted by Nazi U-boats. Pretty tense!! Even had some Canadian ships in there, too!
It's not the best movie ever, but certainly exciting and worth a watch. Really puts it into perspective of what those crews went through just to get to the war!

Thank you all so much for the kind comments, messages and emails!! I'm slowly adjusting to time in England but hopefully the jeglag will be kind to me. Naturally, I had to get my favourite Chinese last night (and maybe my favourite pizza tonight??). What are calories, anyway?
Thank you so much for the support (emotional AND financial) it really does mean a lot to me. I have so many video ideas I'd like to do once I'm settled and I hope you enjoy the content!!
Happy September, ever...

Another pre-Spooky-Month movie I watched was Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark.
It was fine! I didn't have the highest expectations going into the film which helped. It's a perfectly reasonable teen-horror-type movie with some cute teen-character-development-bits! And lots of it is filmed in southern Ontario!
The only part that made my mum and I jump was when my sister unexpectedly opened the door.

I love October, also affectionally referred to as Spooky Month.
Mid-September is a good time to start celebrating! First off, I watched I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. I definitely wouldn't call it horror, but it's eerie with lots of atmospheric stuff. Certainly an arty-movie for folks who like that kind of thing. Very slow. Lots of b-roll.
Overall I was a bit bored, but the camera angles and cinematography is really beautiful!

When it comes to most things, I am usually excruciatingly late. I just recently started playing The Witcher 3, after it was released FIVE YEARS AGO. Better late than never!
I know a lot of people have recommended the game (and it has won so many awards, so I'm not surprised) so I finally started it on Twitch. I think because it's such a big game that it was intimidating to start, but I'm glad that I did! I'm only a few hours into it, so there's lots to do still.
A...

Recently I watched the new film The Outpost - it's about the deadliest outpost in Afghanistan that soldiers were sent to protect. I went into the film not knowing the real story, so it definitely explains it for you.
As always, I don't want to spoil the movie. So let's just say: the first half is 🥱 and the second half is 😮
Overall I really enjoyed it but I found that it was lonnnnggg. And the second half was loouuudddd. Certainly a good watch if you're into ...

I love Jessica Chastain. I think she's wonderful. I watched Ava the other day and ooooof. What happened, girl??
Basically she's like a hitman (which is such a cool premises) but the whole movie was pretty dire. It felt like they had ripped off every previous action-hitman-type movie ever made with nothing surprising or interesting. Such a shame! The movie felt like it was really trying to be a high-quality thriller but it felt genuinely awkward in many places.

Hey guys! I mentioned this book in my last Patreon video and I'll be reading it for Sept - in case anyone else wants to join! (You can buy it from Amazon here if you're interested)
Shout out to Will on Patreon for recommending it, I'm already a handful of chapters in!
It's been really easy to read, easy to understand but still an interesting story and unique characters. I've never seen the movie either, which helps! T...

Finally, a new movie that I loved!
I watched Sputnik the other day for obvious reasons - I love space and astronauts and aliens. I went into this movie knowing absolutely nothing other than it was Russian with subtitles and a new film about a cosmonaut. Sign me up.
It was so good!
If you're OK to read subtitles, I'd really recommend it. The acting is great (I didn't know who anyone was so that's refreshing), plus it's an interesting story with great music, l...

Gather round! Another Walmart Storyâ„¢
(For those of you who don't know, I worked at Walmart for 2 months in-between first and second year of college - I needed that money!)
I was working a LOT that summer, trying to get as many hours as I could. This particular day was a long one, I wasn't feeling well and I had been working since 7am. Also at Walmart, all cashiers stand for their shifts because it's a cruel world in N. America.
I had a guy come to my check...

My mum and I were looking for a spook'em the other day and decided on Hush! It was fine! Sure! There's essentially no real plot but the premises behind the story is great. Certainly worth a watch if you're looking for something perfectly-adequately-creepy.

The last few weeks I've been playing Fall Guys! Along with seemingly everyone else on Twitch!
Basically you are matched up with 59 other players to compete in various rounds to find a winner. I think there's about 10+ different types of games and usually there's 4-5 elimination rounds so each time you play it's a bit different. Has anyone else tried it??
The game is super fun, although can be super frustrating, but it's still an entertaining game! I'll probably be playing it...

I finally got around to seeing Peanut Butter Falcon after everyone was talking about it last year. It was super cute! It's extremely predictable and you can probably already guess how it will end... but it was still a good watch and a sweet film.

Why do I do this to myself?
Recently I bought Paradise Lost by John Milton (you can buy it here on Amazon UK) God it's hard. Paradise Lost was one of those books I always wanted to read (and look cool reading it) but it's a struggle.
I even found this Study Guide with chapter analysis videos to help explain what I was reading.. it's ...

Lately I've been re-watching X-Files! One of my all-time favourites! The seasons are available on Amazon Prime so it would be a shame not to.
I first watched the show in high school and I actually bought all of the seasons on DVD (mainly from Blockbuster..) I think those were eventually donated when I moved to England, I hope they went to a loving home.
I haven't watched the new revival seasons and I probably won't.. I want to remember the show as it origina...

You might have seen on my social media that my Dad died this week. I'm heartbroken, but I'm so lucky to have had such a wonderful father in my life - even for a short while.
As you probably guessed, there won't be a Patreon video today nor a Youtube video on Tuesday. I just don't feel quite in the right headspace for that right now.
However, Dad was one of my biggest A+N supporters and he would be really disappointed if I quit now - so I'll be back!! Just not this week.

Oof, be careful with this one. I finally got around to watching A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood - all about the wonderful Mister Rogers. I'm not sure how big he was in the UK, but he was huge in North America.
Warning: the film deals with family trauma and cancer! Be prepared!! I was not aware!!!!
Overall it's a great film but it'll definitely hit different if you're familiar with Mister Rogers. Tom Hanks is absolutely wonderful.

I re-watched another one of my favourite films: Zero Dark Thirty! Ahhhhh so good!!
I love it. I find that it's an extremely complicated real-life story that spans over years and years, and yet the film is really easy to understand and to follow. Plus: we have a female lead, a female director and a real-life female bad-ass that it's based on #feminism
Such a great film! And it's on Netflix, too, so there's no excuse not to watch it!
