Rap Gods

Back when I could go to the gym, my go-to workout playlist is my own! Unsurprisingly, Rap Gods includes some of my favourite rap/hiphop songs! Feel free to follow the playlist on Spotify, or use some of these tracks as inspiration for your own playlist :)

Am I missing your favourite rap song? Let me know! There's so much I still need to learn!

Personally: my two favourites are Run the Jewels and Anderson .Paak!

My favourite TV show! Please watch!

Lately I've been watching the new season of Killing Eve and let me tell you - it's so good!

If you're into mystery, spies, crime, great writing, fabulous acting, a Canadian lead and a fantastic show: you should watch it!

Next time you're bored and not sure what to watch, check out Season 1 and let me know what you think..! It's a great quarantine show!

My first dog!

Most people know that I'm a crazy dog lady (if you didn't know, now you do). I don't have my own dog right now because frankly:

1. I don't have the money

2. I don't have the time

3. I'm also now living out of my parents' guest bedroom with no end in sight

But this beautiful baby was my first dog, Sydney. Get it? Because she was an Australian Cattle Dog? So creative. We got her when I was about 3 years old and she was sadly put to sleep when I was about 14. We were pret...

Walmart stories...

Patreon member Bayliss (cheers Bayliss!) suggested sharing some life stories, including my very brief time working at Walmart. Great idea!

I worked at Walmart for 2 months in-between first and second year of college. I was back home for the summer and needed a job. Thankfully it was Walmart that called me back and not McDonalds (no offence McDs, I just don't think I could handle you).

One story that really stands out to me is...

Walmart's uniform is black pants and a black t...

So excited for a new murder mystery!

That's right! Dateline NBC has a new podcast! Motive for Murder premieres tomorrow (May 7)! I saw somewhere that it's about 7 episodes, I think.. so unlike usual Dateline, all 7 episodes will cover the same story.

I'm not sure if they'll release all the episodes at once (unlikely) but I'll definitely be listening! Would love to know your opinions once it's finished (I'll post again once I'm done). Very excited!

Too cold for me!

Finally watched Everest the other night from 2015. I really enjoyed it! While there's not much of a story, the visuals are incredible, fabulous soundtrack/music and overall a great film!

Made me feel dizzy and very cold. You don't need to remind me to never climb a mountain like that.

Totally fine!

Watched the new movie Extraction with Chris Hemsworth and it was totally fine! Think India's John Wick - lots of violence, great stunts and fighting choreography with not much of a story (although I love John Wick so much more than this).

I don't think anything in this movie will surprise you, but the action is great! Perfect if that's what you're in need of.

What am I listening to?

During our latest Best Buds livestream, Patreon members helped me brainstorm different things I could share on Patreon (funny stories, reviewing stuff together, etc) One of them was sharing what I've been listening to!

If you don't know, I love true crime. Like, I love true crime.

Unfortunately this was instilled in me at a (VERY) young age and will probably be one of my interests until I die (hopefully not murder-related).

One o...

May's Book Club read!

Patreon member Jim (thanks Jim!) suggested that we could do some type of review every once in awhile, so why not a monthly book club??

Feel free to join if you'd like! I'll try to post what I'm reading at the beginning of the month and post a review at the end (plus you can join in!) I'm sure there will also be some discussion on our Discord chatroom.

For May, I'm going to read James Acaster's Classic Scrapes! (you can 2020-05-01 17:00:05 +0000 UTC View Post

Great movie!

Finally got around to watching I, Tonya and I really enjoyed it! I liked that they use a faux-documentary-interview style to tell a story that I actually didn't know many of the details!

Definitely worth a watch, even if you couldn't care less about ice skating.

Oh buddy - this video really fought me! First the audio, then getting corrupted! It's cursed!

So sorry about the audio quality - my "VoiceOver" microphone is still in England so I had to improvise... might need to hold off on doing this types of videos until I'm back there again and reunited with my microphone!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!!

I need subtitles!

Recently I watched Wild Rose and really enjoyed it! I appreciated that the story felt quite authentic in all it's sad-grimy glory.

However, the Glaswegian accent was SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND! Half the time I would only understand a portion of every sentence... at least it's not a hard plot to follow. My poor Dad watched the movie with mum and I - he waited patiently until after it was over to tell us he couldn't understand them!

What a great political drama!

I meant to watch Official Secrets at the cinema, but it left before I had a chance. I saw that it's on Amazon Prime (at least in Canada) and really enjoyed it! An all-around great political drama!

I really had NO idea of the story, but it's explained in a straight-forward way so you don't need any background going into it. A great film!

Great acting!

I watched The Two Popes and although I am not religious in any way, I found it really interesting! Leads Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins are incredible, the cinematography is beautiful and some of the scenes really stuck with me afterwards.

Granted, this movie wasn't made for me and I did get bored in certain parts (I mean, it IS over 2 hours). BUT I can see how important the story is and what a high-quality movie it is. Definitely worth a watch.

Who doesn't love a zombie film in these trying times?

Re-watched Dawn of the Dead because why not? I remembered it being a great zombie film  but it didn't hold up to my memory... prettttty dang silly and I definitely laughed out loud more than once.

A shame it didn't hold up as well as I thought it might - although, it's always there if you need a zombie movie - stat!

Solid true crime film!

Even though I'm heavily into true crime, I'm surprised I never got around to watching this one before! Decided to pop on Changeling and it was good! Bit long, bit predictable, but still a really good watch. I think it's worth watching even if you know a lot about the true story.

If you've seen the film but want more ofa deep-dive, make sure to check out the real story behind the film. Totally bonkers.

Make it stop

The other night I wanted a bad movie. You know the feeling, where you just want to watch something that KNOWS that it's a bad movie? I decided on Dark Light that I found on Netflix. Didn't research what it was about, or it's movie score, but knew it was going to be bad. Good Lord. It was NOT GOOD. Annoyingly, it was not a FUN bad movie. Just a bad movie.

Wouldn't recommend it even if you're looking for a dumb film. It was so boring, I was waiting for the sweet release o...

What a cute film!!!

I LOVE DOGS and had been meaning to watch Isle of Dogs since it came out in 2018. I guess there's one good thing about this quarantine..!

I really enjoyed this movie. The animation, the art, and overall design was SO much fun to look at. Plus: dogs! A really sweet film that I enjoyed from start to finish.

I can see why it won so many awards!

The other night I finally watched the Darkest Hour - dang! What a good movie! Gary Oldman is on fire!! A great war-time-film for a movie without any war-time-action in it.

I've been trying out a new movie watching method that I thought I would share since we're all stuck in quarantine!

I have a VERY small "to watch" list and I keep it very small, otherwise there's too many choices. When I don't really feel like watching a movie but I'm bored, I go to the list and ...

I'm surprised!

I went into The Hunt with no expectations - the last few films I've watched were boring and typical. I was actually pleasantly surprised with this one! It's silly, a bit outrageous, but I enjoyed it. Something a bit different to break up all the monotamy of being at home.

Anyone else like it?? It's not got the best ratings on Rotten Tomatoes...

I'll pass!

Even with huge names and a lot of "style" I really didn't care about The Gentlemen.

Movies like Snatch and Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels are fantastic - some of my favourites! But this felt like rehashing the same type of stuff without any of the authenticity that the earlier films have. Try something new, pal!

The Gentlemen isn't terrible, just not for me.

*(Also - I'm getting in so many films during this guarantee - at least that's a positive!)

It's okay!

Watched the new movie "Lost Girls" on Netflix - it was fine!

Based on a true story, I actually enjoyed the Dateline episode on these crimes more than the film. If you're stuck inside and you like true crime, the movie is certainly worth a watch, just not the greatest.

Anxiety and subtitles!

Dogman has been on my list for a long time but I finally got around to watching it (I guess one good thing about not being able to do anything else?)

If you don't mind reading subtitles, it's a good movie! It's similar to Uncut Gems in that every choice that is made is a bad one - you'll be screaming at the TV in no time. That means my stomach was in knots the whole time so it's not the most comfortable thing to watch.

If you'd like to see something a bit different from a differen...
