“Yes! Yes! Brandon- get them! Get them- yes!” Rickard heard his only daughter hiss with approval, and he found himself very grateful for the private booth that was arranged for the Wardens and Lord Paramounts. She was entirely transfixed by the conflict below, as his son and her brother were putting on quite the show. Rickard hadn't quite been sure what to expect from such a grand battle where eight sides fought for supremacy.
Perhaps that the Melee would be ...

“Rude, please tell me you have an actual plan?” Jill asked, hating the pleading note in her voice. Fear crawled up her spine as she gazed up at the gigantic creature that seemed to still be pulling itself out of whatever hole it had crawled out of. Something like that… It wasn't something she could have imagined in the worst of her nightmares.
She watched as a house sized claw hooked around a skyscraper, nearly effortlessly tearing the building down as Nemesis used ...

The only thing more dangerous than a competent enemy was an incompetent ally. Brandon knew it in his gut even before the Melee began that Paul would be singled out. His father's vassals, for all they disparage the South, had their own petty pride and Paul's inclusion to the Melee had been a sore spot for many of them. Brandon and Ned had both been warming the others up to the idea, but the Crowned Prince tipping the balance? It made it feel like a command rather than a choice.

Prison wasn't that bad once you got used to it. The thought felt heretical compared to how she felt when she first arrived. The grime and mold covered concrete walls and floor with the iron bars over too small cells had felt suffocating. Maddening. She hadn't realized it then, but that was part of the process. The first months were spent gnawing at the bars to escape, the second was spent carving out a niche for yourself, and everything after that…
Vi hadn't realized it, but she...

“You're alive?! You're alive!” Jayce erupted with joy the moment he saw me, crossing the distance between us and delivering a back breaking hug. That brought the others attention to us in the Council’s chamber. I patted Jayce on the back, my gaze bouncing between the others -- Heimerdinger was all but bouncing in his seat when he saw that I was okay. Mel, Cassandra, and Hoskel, however, had much more reserved reactions. Still pleased, of course, but reserved.
“Barely,” I...

The Institute was in pretty rough shape. The synths were all slaughtered, but that was no real loss. While they had trashed the synth printer in the laboratory, I had my portable one back on Runeterra to work off of. But a solid third of its scientist population had been slaughtered in the synths revolutionary fury -- the once sterile white walls painted red with blood. The human body only had about five gallons, which wouldn't look that impressive if you dumped it into a bathtub. However, pa...

Giant robot. A giant robot. It was a giant robot. The thought banged around my skull like a bell, and I found myself just… happy. Since I took that deal and became Law, I had experienced all sorts of things. I had done all sorts of things. I had felt the greatest of joys by fulfilling childhood dreams, I had fallen in love, I had hedonistic orgies with beautiful women… and I had felt the lowest of lows. Holding Homelander's corpse in my arms, the endless boredom of cleaning up after the a...

The next month was a flurry of activity. The war had been won, and I was now the uncontested king of Denmark, but the truth of it was that becoming king was the easy part. The battle against Horrik was something that I had set in motion and prepared for long before I arrived at my homeland's shores. What I faced now was a very different kind of battle.
It wasn't one that could so easily be settled with arms or words. It was a battle of influence.
The majority of the Ja...

It didn’t feel real. Not really. Not even as a look of crushing defeat filled Horrik’s eyes as he understood all too well what this meant for him. A moment that he had been dreading as much as I had anticipated it for years by this point. His defeat was more real to him than it was to me, I think. And, as much as I would like to pretend that I didn’t know the reason why… I did.

During the past two weeks, I’d had my scouts searching for a battlefield that met my specifications -- flat open fields, ocean access, with a forest on the other flank. That, and it had to be within a day's march of Alabu. I desired the terrain to be to my advantage, but not so much so that Horrik would refuse to fight me. He would know how hard his men had been pushed, how angry and demoralized they were. His hand was being forced, but even he wouldn't take to a field where he felt defeat ...

You know, honestly, I had just kinda figured that the major characters of the Resident Evil series would have plot armor. I mean… I didn't know much about the games. I absorbed most of the information I did know about them from memes, which I hadn't thought was a particularly good source but in hindsight were way more reliable than the movies, and the memes painted a pretty clear picture of the main characters of the series. They were DC or Marvel's idea of ‘peak human’ in that they wer...

Levi Ackerman stared dispassionately into the crater that had drawn the Survey Corp out here, and he couldn't deny that it was an impressive sight. It was located nearly dead center between Wall Maria and Wall Rose, around a hundred yards wide and a hundred feet deep. He had heard rumors, back as a child, about how the stars sometimes fell. At the time, he hadn't ever seen the sky, but the idea of it had filled him with wonder. And now, he wondered if he was looking at the aftermath of one of...

Hello everyone, I'm here with a health update. My surgery went well on Wednesday with no notable complications. Went in, went under, and stayed for about a day for observation, and I've been back home for the past few days. However, I completely underestimated the recovery post-surgery. I was informed that it would be about a week to a week and a half before I was back to normal, and I made the assumption that it wouldn't interfere with my ability to write.
I was wrong. The painkillers...

“So? How does it feel?” Thorkell asked me as I gazed out at Hedeby, the first city in Denmark that had acknowledged me as their king. The people that had hid behind the palisade had returned to their homes, even if they did have to put up with some extra guests. But even with five men in each house, the rest of my army was forced to camp outside the city. It just wasn't big enough. Not at all like Constantinople, which could house an additional twelve thousand men and hardly notice. ...

I mentioned it a month ago, but there was a chance that I would need a minor surgery as a result of my health scare. While the medication I was given has helped a lot, it didn't do enough to make the surgery unnecessary, so later this week I will be having it. I have been reassured that the risks are minimal and the recovery time will be short.
However, I will be taking time off from the 12th to 19th for recovery. So, there will be no updates for that week. After that, though, I am ver...
