Legends Never Die: Kingmaker (ch. 33)

"He was a popular guy," Thorkell confirmed my worst suspicions as we rode toward our destination after crossing the Rhine and heading into the land of Holland. My mercenary company took point while two thousand Saxons trailed behind us. Crossing the river had been the worst part, mostly because there was no easy way to get back across if we were attacked, making us vulnerable. But we managed the crossing in about a half day.

Thorkell rode along side me, Halfdan on my left while Halstien...

Legends Never Die: To Be A Man (ch. 32)

I had completely forgotten about that raid. No, that wasn't true. It was impossible to forget the raid itself. That had been the raid that had made Horrik honor me, where I was engaged to Jill, and the norns started to weave far more interesting events into my life. However, I had completely forgotten about that family that I let go. That I tried to let go.

I don't think it was entirely my fault that I hadn't been able to recognize him. He looked very different after… nearly two years...

Legends Never Die: Family (ch. 31)

The plan to invade during the winter was dismissed. It had relied on the assumption that we would be joined by the second Saxon army, taking advantage of the defeat of the besieging army to punch deep into Francia while they were unprepared. Given our own losses, King Widukind made the decision to wait and gather our strength and to let word spread throughout Saxony. To see what his nation would react with - fear, or anger.

The war had already proven costly, and the menfolk were needed ...

Foolish Ambitions (Danmachi/WC)

Sorry for the bit of a content drought -- I’m still on my business trip, and it’s been kicking my ass. However, next week, I’m not going to be bouncing between cities and hotels, and I’ll have a few days to sit down, so next week should be better. Again, sorry about that but my real-life schedule does take precedence over my online schedule.

This is something that I wrote up on various plane rides since I didn’t bring enough books to read. It’s ...

Castoff: The Greater Good (ch. 15)

"Do you want it?" Guts asked, his hand twitching to grab Dragonslayer and just start swinging. Something heavy sat on his chest and shoulders, weighing him down. Crushing him. Grinding his bones into dust as he saw the past repeat itself before his very eyes. It wasn't a one to one. Ciri wasn't a bastard, and she was a woman, but beyond that it was like he was seeing it all over again. An ashen haired person reaching out to the crown, claiming that a utopia would be built by their hand.

Gacha God: Just Deserts (ch. 18)

As far as plans went, it was a solid one. Shield didn't know about the Ring of Nine Dragons, and I doubt that me being able to produce clones would be their first assumption. Instead, I imagined they would assume that I -- Audacity -- had a team. And they were right about that, just less so than they figured. My face would be outed in connection to Audacity, nothing could be done about that, but they would have no reason to believe that I was Audacity himself.

"So, how exactly do I hand...

Grenades were pretty handy, I decided, jury-rigging a daisy chain of grenades along the walls of my apartment. Everything of value was already inside of the Cave of Wonders, though Past Me didn’t know that yet. As far as he was aware, everything was as it should be -- he would meet Black Cat, make a deal with Tony Stark, and then he would head here to get some sleep while Ned tried to figure out exactly where Shield was keeping the Rising Tide hacker. As well as where Dr. Hall was being kep...

“Interesting trick,” Tony remarked, pursing his lips as he looked at me, gesturing to my Cave of Wonders. The door was still closed, but that didn’t mean he hadn’t been inside of it. “I can’t quite puzzle it out, which is a rarity for me. Care to give some spoilers? Space folder? Quantum displacement?” He asked me, taking another deep drink from his… cherry banana smoothie. And I only saw one. He didn’t bring enough to share with the rest of the class? What a dick.

From the Ashes: Glimmers of Victory (ch. 29)

The aftermath of the battle was bad. It was downright impossible to tell how many darkspawn had been slain throughout the night but it must have been thousands. Several thousand. There were token efforts to count them, and in sure I would find out the total eventually, but for the most part, people collapsed or shifted through the ashes. People were by far more interested in dealing with our losses.

Which were considerable.

Shockingly, the Chantry forces had managed to survive the...

"We should leave," Sten voiced his opinion as our companions gathered up in a small house that had been allocated for all of us. "Staying this long was a foolhardy endeavor."

"I am in agreement with Sten," Morrigan voiced, leaning in a corner with a slight grin on her face. "The darkspawn are here because every hamlet and village has evacuated to either here or Lothering. You wish to stop the darkspawn from going further? Then give them what they want to tie them down. If you must save ...

From the Ashes: Glimmers of Battle (ch. 27)

“That was too much,” Leliana scolded me as we turned away from Teagan, who was speaking to Alistair in a low tone. I’m guessing he was either saying unkind things or plotting to put him on the throne of Ferelden. Frankly, I couldn’t have cared less in either case. “You must be diplomatic, Azoth. Bann Teagan controls the Arling now that his brother is recovering.”

“Or dying,” I muttered, wondering if I was hopeful or not, mostly out of spite. I sincerely doubted that Arl ...

From the Ashes: Glimmers of Hope (ch. 26)

“You didn’t say anything,” Theron remarked in a quiet voice as we set up camp. We rejoined the villagers, but they were giving us -- or, rather, Shale -- a wide berth. As a result, we didn’t really need to take watch. Apparently, Shale didn’t need to sleep, but it was decided that it would be best if at least one Grey Warden was up at all times. Alistair could feel the darkspawn the best out of the three of us, but Theron was rapidly catching up. Likely because of how tainted he had...

Morrigan slapped me. Hard. I couldn't even say that I saw the blow coming either, because one moment, I was standing in front of the great tree, watching as the bodies were removed and coming to terms with what I had just agreed to. Then I I heard the furious crunching of snow and by the time I thought to look over, I was greeted by Morrigan's palm as it struck me with enough force that I nearly toppled over. Never Fade Away: Paid the Cost (ch. 18)

Predictably, the Tyger Claws were pretty pissed about their leadership getting zeroed like a bunch of chumps. They swarmed the building, flooded the streets, tearing through Night City in search of them. Jack leaned back in a chair while she listened to the radio, watching Becca swing around the blade she got from Miyamoto Musashi while making 'wahh' sounds. The two of them were safe back at Kiwi’s apartment and the security systems were activated.

"L!" Jack shouted, entering their shared home to see that L had been busy. He had converted the area above them into some weird room that had a bunch of servers. The space between them was filled with something -- coolant, if she had to guess. Between the three rows of servers were what looked like tech with a shit ton of RAM sticks slotted into it. Ugly as hell, and half done at best. But, L was working on it.

"Yeah?" L questioned, looking more exhausted than he had a day ago. She ende...

Never Fade Away: In The End (ch. 17)

"Where the fuck is the fucking- oh, there it is," I muttered to myself as I stood surrounded by bits and pieces of equipment ranging from wires, nuts and bolts, electronics, and some metal plating. Grabbing the wrench, I started aggressively unhooking a bolt that I had secured way too tightly. Normally, building things gave me peace of mind. A zen-like state where my brain turned off all unnecessary functions and I could just work without thinking about anything other than the task at hand. View Post

V hadn’t reconnected with me in a month after shooting me a text to deliver the Element Zero implants to a drop point in the Glen. I parted with them with some reluctance, mostly because I still didn’t understand the substance at all and J had given me an inkling of what it was capable of. That lack of contact should have been something of a reassurance, but I found myself more nervous than ever. It felt like there was a leash around my neck and at any moment, without warning, I was going...

Peter managed to live through the ordeal, but there were times when it was touch and go. I’m not sure if that was because the serum was made with me in mind, or if he was just having a much harsher reaction to it than I did. The transformation lasted for a solid eight hours, the first two Peter screamed his way through, before he blacked out from the pain at long last, then woke back up at hour six. He spent the rest of the time whimpering and shuddering, spitting the water out as much as h...
