Gacha God: Unforeseen Developments (ch. 10)

"We lost him," Clint informed Natasha as she stalked the room that was the focal point for all of Audacity's henchmen and the last known location of the man himself. "We aren't the only ones trained in the disappearing act -- seems like Audacity blended in with his men, and the moment we lost eyes on them, they disappeared."

Natasha came to a stop in front of a hole that led down into the sewers. A wide-open network of tunnels that had next to no cameras, that also protected Audacity fr...

Gacha God: Dominos (ch. 9)

"So, you can make copies of yourself?" Peter questioned, his jaw-dropping as he looked at Seb Two, then back at me, then back at Seb Two. "Is that your superpower?"

"Nah,” Seb Two answered.

“My superpower is that cool stuff drops in my lap every once in a while. It's how I got the AT's and the yoyo,” I added on with a supporting nod from Seb Two. “It’s happened since I was a kid, but I had to leave a lot of my stuff behind when I left home.” The only thing that I took ...

Castoff: The Hidden Cost (ch. 9)

Guts couldn’t say that he enjoyed the reunion that was going on with Ciri. He felt decidedly out of place, surrounded by people he didn’t know and didn’t know what to make of. He didn’t let the creature Dudu out of his sight, constantly keeping him in the corner of his vision to make sure that he didn’t lunge for him. Having his other eye back was proving to be rather convenient in that regard.

In general, he didn’t know what to make of any of the characters he found himself...

Legends Never Die: Berserker (ch. 24)

Grimar was the second eldest of Horrik’s five sons, born to him across three wives and other concubines. Growing up, I heard of them from my father and brothers, who did meet them. That they were likable. Good men. Strong fighters and so on. However, only Thorfinn had remained in Alabu for any length of time. Horrik sent his children out to be fostered elsewhere. With who, I didn't know, but in hindsight, what he was doing was rather obvious. His daughters were all married for alliances, an...

Legends Never Die: The Hunt (ch. 23)

I let out a breath and I saw a cloud of fog. The first real sign that the weather was turning. There had been a chill in the air for the last few weeks, but it receded as the sun rose. However, in the early morning, with a rooster crowing to announce the start of the day, the chill persisted. My gaze drifted up above to the cloudy sky, seeing nothing but a curtain of grayish white. I asked Hallstein if it was going to rain today and he said that it wasn’t. His knee wasn’t acting up.

Legends Never Die: To Be Iviking (ch. 22)

As it would turn out, King Widukind's need for exact measurements worked out perfectly for us. The scouts that were sent out to patrol the countryside and monitor the Frankish army had reported almost everything that they had seen, ranging from good terrain, poor terrain, hamlets, villages, and towns. There was a rather clearly marked border between what they explored and everything beyond it, but at the very least, it served as a starting point to decide our course of action.

Legends Never Die: The Gods Laugh At The Plans Of Men (ch. 21)

I found King Widukind in a tavern. It was one of decent make, more stone than wood, though the floors were made from thick wooden planks. Furniture was of decent make, but it was currently stacked up along the walls to make room for the comings and goings of messengers. At the heart of the tavern were a long couple of tables that were pushed together to hold the model that was being meticulously assembled. One of Frankfurt was being combined with one of the surrounding area. King Widukind him...

Never Fade Away: You're Like a Ghost How You're Everywhere (ch. 11)

“You talk to him?” David asked her, their butts parked on the couch in his and Lucy's penthouse and Rebecca really couldn’t get over how swanky the place was. It seemed like just yesterday that David was an adorable punk who didn’t know the first thing about edgerunning beyond that having a Sandy was one hell of a cheat code. Now he was living it up in a high-rise apartment with his cold, distant, and nerdy girlfriend. It was less than a year ago too.

So little time and so much ...

Never Fade Away: A Metal Soul of Rage and Fear (ch. 10)

Dr. K lived in a rather nice apartment in Watson. The district of the city was, by any measure, an absolute mixed bag of what you would find almost street by street. There were blocks that were completely impoverished, more so than one would normally see in Night City. However, in those same blocks, there could be an apartment building that offered upscale apartments for outlandish prices.

The building itself was ID locked, meaning that without getting through some rather hefty ICE, it ...

Never Fade Away: That One Sin that Caused The Fall (ch. 9)

Kiwi already had programs running in the background by the time we pulled up to her apartment, with eleven hours and forty-five minutes left on the clock. Her apartment itself was near the heart of Kabuki, in a high rise that offered a great view of the city. A view that went ignored as Kiwi outright forbade me from working on my laptop in favor of letting me access her spare setup. I heard the sound of shedding clothing and the clinking of ice as she prepared an ice bath to dive into the net...

Never Fade Away: Said What You Had To Say (ch. 8)

"He's selling corpses to Maelstrom," Lucy pointed out to him, resting her head against his shoulder while the two of them watched Rebecca coach L on how to shotgun a beer. How drunk L was was anyone's guess since he had already puked twice because of the taste.

David knew. He heard it mentioned by Doc when he was getting some maintenance done. He was pretty sure that he had slotted in a reflex tuner from someone that L had dropped. "It wasn't my intention," David admitted. "The lesson w...

From the Ashes: Sparks of Disaster (ch. 20)

“Ugly fuckers,” I muttered, a bow in hand as I was placed upon the bridge with the rest of the archers. My choice, really. Without my magic, I was a piss poor fighter that wouldn’t win a straight fight. And, I suspect, I wouldn’t get a fair fight against darkspawn -- especially not when I would be fighting shoulder to shoulder with a hodgepodge of soldiers. However, I also picked the position due to the fact that it gave me the ability to overlook the battle itself.

The darkspaw...

“Soris will be here in a few days,” I told the Rabbits back at the Blushing Maid, days later after my arrest. Despite my orders to remain calm, I had entered the building to find that they were damn near in open revolt with the tables being lined with every weapon we had smuggled or bought immediately after my release. Isabela and her crew were passed out, drunk, in various bedrooms, completely oblivious to it as far as I could tell. Either that or they very much didn’t want to be invol...

From the Ashes: Sparks of Rebellion (ch. 18)

It wasn’t often that I stepped behind the bar in the Blushing Maid. It was a rare occurrence that I tended to reserve for special occasions. The eradication of one of the few rival gangs left in the city was this such occasion -- since everyone that had lived in the slums was squatting on the streets either because their house burned down or their landlord was vastly hiking up the rent to force them out, gangs were on the rise. Some sought revenge upon me and the Rabbits. Those gangs didn...

From the Ashes: Spark of Rebellion (ch. 17)

Duncan could taste blood upon his tongue, and he found it tasted sweet instead of like iron, while his hands clutched a crude sword and a shield made of a wagon wheel as he mindlessly hacked at the corpse of a man, sending up rivets of blood with each swing. His body was covered in gore, blood dripping from him in rivers, before he looked up to the sky above and belted out a monstrous roar of domination.

More of his ilk emerged from the woods at his primitive signal, their forms as twis...

Legends Never Die: Harsh Truths (ch. 20)

“You’re a great warrior,” Thorkell told me as we watched the people of Frankfort be led out of the city gates. King Widukind didn’t want them eating the food in case there was a siege. That wasn’t to say everyone had left the city. Many had been taken as thralls. Others were captives. And some were kept for the pleasure of men. “But, you’re a poor leader of men,” he said, earning a slow blink from me as I looked away from the angry tide of people forced to leave their homes wi...

Update on Gone Native

First off -- let me apologize for the break extending longer than I anticipated. I hadn't realized it until I took the break, but I was more burnt out on the story than I realized. I still fully intend to complete the story and that's what this update is about.

I've been rereading Gone Native and I've noticed some rather glaring issues that stand out to me now that I've taken a break from the story, and it's those issues that I want to work on and address. Basically, I introduced ...

Flashing lights alerted me that the police were following us, and as soon as they did, a program kick-started in the car. I could have killed it easily enough but chose not to, letting the truck that I was in slow down and guide itself to the curb. Pretty much every single vehicle in Night City came with a kill switch that the cops had access to. It was nearly standard practice to disable it if you intended to live a life of crime.

Gacha God: Unforeseen Developments (ch. 10)

I rewrote parts of chapter 9 because I wasn't satisfied with how the time travel elements were being used to escape. I ended up introducing a rule that was better off left on paper and complicated things more than they needed to. For those that can't be bothered to reread chapter 9.

The TLDR; Seb didn't go back further in time, therefore not erasing interactions between Seb, Peter, and Ned, and Shield was able to respond to Seb's attacks on the Russian Mob...

Gacha God: The Inherit Benefits of Time Travel (ch. 7)

I stood in my Cave of Wonders and realized that I needed to take inventory, because it went from completely empty to being a goddamn mess over the course of… well, a day, but several dozen timelines. There were just piles of weapons tossed around haphazardly, no method of sorting to organize them. So, it was time to take inventory in preparation for my next adventure of ripping off a gang. Or a couple of gangs. Or maybe all of them. I’m not particularly picky.

To start with -- I had...
