Fool's World: the Fool (ch.1 Nobara Start)

The first thing I ever felt was a fist smacking into my face, snapping my head to the side and rattling every tooth in my skull. My heart immediately started thundering in my ears, making every other sound around me sound distant and muted. The taste of copper was heavy on my tongue, to the point it was all I could taste. Every muscle in my body ached and burned, and it felt like my blood had been replaced by liquid fire.

I think it said a lot about me that my first instinct was to thro...

See No Evil: Seeing Red (ch. 61)

"Some of us have been doing a little better for ourselves than others!" I heard through the speakers, the observation punctuated with a mad cackle from a madman off-screen, the video zoomed in on a man in a chair, his back turned to the camera so it was impossible to make out who he was. "Some of us are a bit like cats and always land on their feet!" The Joker said as the camera began to move as if someone had picked it up.

I knew who it was. Deep in my gut, I knew exactly who was sitti...

See No Evil: The Message (ch. 60)

Despite popular belief, it was actually pretty easy to not think about purple elephants. Even when you had someone actively trying to trick you into doing it, it wasn't even particularly hard. It was a simple trick -- when someone mentioned purple elephants, you thought about blue elephants instead. Or green tigers. Or gray monkeys. A topic that is tangibility related, but not the topic itself. The further from purple elephants the better.

So, when you were told not to think incriminati...

The sheer audacity of it all, Barbara Gordon thought to herself as she held the blessed cocaine in her hands. The completely outlandish, mind-numbing audacity of the man beggared belief. Vergil wasn't going to be satisfied until he was fighting the entire world -- first, he was taking on the corporations on their home turf, then he painted a target on his back for the Joker, and now as Gotham was left reeling from the quake, Vergil was planning to take on the cartels and the cocaine trade as ...

Risk It All: Dangerous Temptation Omake #1

"Show me," Wonder Woman said.

I opened my mouth to respond before the words caught up to me. My chin was still lightly pinched between her fingers, forcing me to look up at her. I didn't get the feeling that she was going to follow it up with a sudden "Gotcha!" to undercut the order, either. Not that I expected she would. Wonder Woman didn't seem the type for pranks like that, but it would make a lot more sense.

"Show you?" I echoed, finding my voice, but not sure what to say.

Risk It All: Gambit (ch. 26)

I hit the ground hard, landing in a heap, and as much as I would like to stay down, I couldn't. Even though the grass was so soft and I was so sore.

I flipped back up onto my feet, only to quickly throw myself back onto my back a second later to avoid a kick to the temple. I felt the wind brush against my face as the force of Dad's roundhouse kick passed me by. Seeing my chance, I swept out with my leg to sweep Dad's foot out from u...

Gone Native: Decisions (ch. 15)

The return from the planet Craxus was rewarded with more work. They only had a small window of time to gather intelligence on Tarble's Empire, so they had to make the most of it. All of them kept notes of their observations and findings, but Tim's were by far the most expansive and detailed. That was simply his nature.

What was unexpected was that Elery decided to stick with them. In an effort to stave off boredom, which she openly admitted.

"Can you transform?" Elery pestered Kar...

Gone Native: Choices (ch. 14)

There were few things more haunting than standing on a desolate planet. It was chilling and unnerving. Humanity loved movies of the post-apocalypse, but they would love it a lot less if they couldn't turn off the TV, take a hot shower and go to bed in an air-conditioned room after eating their fill. It was very different seeing a dead world in person.

The worst part of it were the signs of life. Trees that once stood proudly were withered and dead. The clouds above were nothing but pois...

Gone Native: Diplomacy (ch. 13)

It wasn't the first time Raven had been to space. They had briefly traveled to Kori's home planet some years ago, and they occasionally had to venture out when a bad guy had a secret base on one of Jupiter's moons, or something of the like. The stars in the true darkness of space, free of the planet's atmosphere and the light pollution of its cities, was one of the few hauntingly beautiful things that Raven had ever seen. In the spacious viewing area of their ship, Raven was sure that it was ...

Announcement: Fool's World Revision

I was talking with my beta the other night about Fool's World and the importance of the first girl and how Korra more or less checked all the boxes that I wanted. But, I was having a little buyer's remorse because I do know that she's a bit of an unconventional choice that comes with some baggage since Legend of Korra isn't recalled fondly by most.

I still think I can pull it off, but we were talking about possible alternatives and the plans for girls that would be coming in the f...

"Alpha team, you're on the string of assassinations," Nightwing informed them, though Megan knew him better as Dick Grayson. Behind him was a projected screen that had detailed information about over thirty murders that happened immediately after the quake in Gotham. A map of Gotham showed where each one took place, or at least where the body was found, along with the estimated time of death and how they were killed. The murders stood out compared to the widescale gang shootings and riots -- ...

Risk It All: Dirty Dealing (ch. 25)

There was a nagging doubt in the back of my mind as I darted forward in a blur, closing the distance between me and Jin in an instant. I pushed it aside, focusing all of my attention on the fight in front of me.

My blood felt hot in my veins, a familiar ache starting to build as we clashed. Sparks of light and darkness filled the space between us as our swords ground against each other, before both of our attacks were diverted by the other, a scene that repeated itself again and again. ...

Gone Native: Compromises (ch. 12)

To be completely honest, Clark didn’t think that would actually work. He could admit that much to himself as Tarble crossed the border, entering south Rhelasia with his arms crossed, even as he eyed them warily. He was expecting deceit. Anticipating it. Perhaps even wanting it. Clark had learned what he could -- the Federation and the Trade Organization propaganda agreed on something, and it was that Saiyans thrived off of conflict.

But, as he offered Tarble a small nod, approving of ...

Fool's World: The Hierophant (ch. 3)

"So, are you actually going to teach me anything, or nah?" I asked Touko, who sat at the desk, a heavy tome flipped open. The faded yellow pages were marked with a language that wasn't Japanese. It had been a few days since Touko showed up and Korra and I found ourselves in this world -- Korra from being ripped from her homeworld, myself because I had my memories stolen from me.

I would like to say that those few days were productive ones. That would be a lie, though. I gained more pers...

I found myself sitting in the back seat of a car. Korra sat next to me, her face pressed up against the window to look out at the city as we passed it by. Majima sat in the passenger seat, his feet kicked up on the dash. He had inconsiderately pushed his seat back enough that I had absolutely no legroom. In the driver's seat was a guy that I didn't know and who hadn't introduced himself. He hadn't said a word so far.

"Woah! Now this is a city!" Korra excitedly exclaimed, hammering a fin...

Announcement: Change in plans, no updates between the 19th to 26th

Sorry to spring this on you all last minute, but a lot of work was just dropped on my lap at work so it'll be a lot more convenient for me if I move up the break a week earlier than planned. I don't like doing this, especially when I already gave a date and when it's last minute, but I wouldn't do it if I thought it was avoidable.

For those that care, the long and short of it is that my boss got fired for inappropriate office behavior. Upon being fired, it was discovered that he w...

See No Evil: The Warning (ch. 57)

It was bound to happen eventually, I thought to myself as I mulled over the news that Miranda so easily delivered as she stood across from me. She didn't really think anything of it. It didn't really mean anything to her. So little that she nearly moved onto the next item on the list before I interrupted.

"Who?" I asked the question, a deadly edge to my tone. Miranda paused mid-word, her lips parted for a second before she closed them, her eyes darting back to her notebook to search for...

"Not to try and have the mission taken away from us, but why are we the ones transporting this to Star Labs?" I asked about twelve hours later, after getting my butt handed to me by Wonder Woman. We were in the briefing room, all lined up and in costume -- the Team on one side, while Batman and Red Tornado stood on the other, a hologram in between them displaying the mission specs.

I got a few dirty looks from a few of my teammates, but it was a genuine question, "This thing fought the ...

As a heads up -- This chapter didn't get a full touch-up because my beta was sick. I polished it up myself, but betaing your own work is difficult since your eyes just glide over your mistakes. If you see anything glaring, then let me know!

Also, I will be taking a break between the 24th to the 1st to celebrate Power Corrupts ending. Fool's World will be posted on the 9th to give myself an extra week to add a little more polish on the story.

She was stronger than me. Significantly so. At Stage Ten of the Wrath State, she was still closer to ten times stronger than I was. She was comparable to Frieza. I could feel the sheer breadth between our power… the gap was so large that I knew that the blow that shattered my hand was a punch that she had pulled. Her face was twisted into an angry snarl, a fury in her eyes that was slightly abated by confusion when my words reached her ears.
