Tanukidad Timelapse

Early Access baby! I hope you all enjoy this one! It features two very sweet boys from a very sweet comic series, Sweet Leaves. I got to talk to the creator in person, Tanukidad, at MFF and we had a wonderful conversation on what inspired the characters, Colson and Sebastian, and in what ways they love each other! It was very productive because he's such an open book and a sweetheart to boot.

This commission really helped me in two ways I think! It boosted my ego because I managed to f...

Headshot Timelapse

Here's the headshot timelapse video. Unfortunately the voiceover story idea kinda fell through.  I should've gotten right on that but I didn't and now it just feels like the time has passed! But ask me on stream, and I'll tell it there!

This was a fun project. Particularly I had fun with designing the clothes! It's not something you see too often you know? Usually furries are a whole bunch of nakeds or have jeans and a t-Shirt! It's always nice to take some time to think about a person and think, what kind of clothes would they wear! Heck sometimes it is jeans and a t-shirt but when you talk to them, you get to know the unique ways in which they wear it! Like the characters from bleach! Just look at all the ways those charac...

Smoochagram 203 - Tanukidad

This one was for TanukiDad! This one was wild! I got it all wrapped up in 3 days which is... I still can't believe it! (That's not to say it was 3 days from acceptance of commission to final product but 3 days until beginning in earnest to completion which means it's something I can do! It's also something I want to do so I'm gonna do that!) I had lots of great thoughts while working on this and had a wonderful time with the foliage! I don't know something clicked for me this time and I was b...

Drop Refs and Price Changing

I'd like to improve my draftsmanship so if you'd like a free 1-hour sketch, link me to your refs! Consider it a thank you for all of your support this year!

After doing my inked cards every day for a year, I noticed one of the benefits of traditional mediums. That benefit is permanence! If I make a mistake with inking, I can't just ctrl+Z. I personally lost sight of that in my digital artwork and I want to bring it back so I want to see if I can't do a daily 1-hour sketch. Something th...

MFF Headshots

I had some time in between walking around the con, hiding cards, going to panels, hanging out with people, a room party, walking to food, smoochin boys, and registering for the con, so I was like, WOW what do I do with ALLLL of this free time I have?

"Hey... hey Reese.. you should take on commissions too!"

Wow what a great idea voice in my head! That sounds like a great idea. So I did, and it was great!

Characters are Skaifox, Kalmia, and Snow!

Door Sign Timelapse

Hey ya'll! Here's that timelapse I promised ya!

If I missed you at MFF, I'm sorry! I was very busy for so much of that con with hiding all those little cards!

Music is "New Day" from Walking Dog's "Animals" album!

I had so much trouble in the beginning by being too zoomed in and when I zoomed out, the details I'd already done were distracting me from getting the gesture of the characters feeling natural and fluid, so I erased the eye and left a reminder for all artists w...

This ain't a bad simplified style and I love the boxes I did in the BG! Ideas are congregating~

I'm doing more! I want to make my sketches a bit more researched to give it a better more finished look! I'm very happy to have finally gotten work done for my good friend Huttser and his boys Zech and Hexo!

On both of em!

This one's for a good friend of mine, Searing and Ryebites who was a joy to work with! It was really fun playing with the shapes on this one! I definitely need to engage with this type of simplification and shape appeal kind of work more often! It'd be great to have great shapes instinctually!

Tiny and Reese Cards of 2023

365 drawings you won't be seeing anywhere else for a month!

I'm not posting these anywhere else until after MFF. I hope you all enjoy these daily cards. I've been doing one of them a day with the intent of having 365 cards to hide around the con space and hopefully make someone laugh. I also wanted to do it... just to see if I could? And it turns out... I can! Which is a major confidence boost that I didn't have before, that I can stick with something long term which gives me much more...

Rumble and Atticus (Timelapse)

Here it is! The video of Rumble and Atticus I'm already pretty quick at navigating DaVinci Resolve to make these so I'm gonna experiment a little with each one. I hope you enjoy the included notes, added sound effects, and panning I threw in this time!

Is there anything you'd like to see in there next time?

Rumble and Atticus

This one was quite the project! But the subject matter is my specialty. Boys smoochin! In hindsight, I do need to learn a lot more about painting foliage, but this is still good to me as the foliage is on the borders and background of the image. I just wish I was a little better at it for the sake of this image.

I do however feel like I nailed that focal point. It's got the exact right amount of expression in color and in spite of the light sources being in the image, right at the foca...

Lizeron Timelapse Early Access

I had other ideas for this video but ultimately I decided to go simple and save those other ideas for other things! At any rate, I hope you all enjoy this timelapse! And I think I'll do these more often! I'll think about a way to work in the notes somehow, so I can be as transparent with my process as possible!

View Post

Lizeron pinup

I tried a new thing with this one! I got all my notes aligned beforehand and made sure to plan out every individual factor. Lighting, expression, composition, colors, perspective, etc. It really works out for me so I'm going to try it again next time! I've also got a recording that I'll be working on over the next few days!

Sidney Pinup

This is a piece that I struggled with I think! I really like the topic but I had a hard time communicating my ideas properly. I did eventually get there, it just required a whole lot more effort.

The character itself is supposed to be a means by which the person interacts with the fandom in a non-sexual way. Considering the angle and the way it might typically make the feet the center of focus, I could see I had y work cut out for me to make it a work people could enjoy in a non-sexual...

View Post

Sidney Pinup: Step by Step

Step 1: Collect the idea: This person wanted a pinup at a dock. My first though was, okay something fun and sexy! I was half right! This character represents this individuals desire to interact with the community in a non-sexual way to paraphrase. And they also wanted a low-angle upward shot, so my challenge here is to communicate this framing in a non-sexual way which is all in the character acting and body language. So no feet in the viewer's face, no squishing the booba together. This is a...

So the goal here was to have the character acting have body language that was closed off yet still commanding! A type of "I dare you" kind of look! I think I succeeded there! Keeping the background vague but dark not only adds to the intimidation, but also frames the figure very nicely!

View Post

Asani Pinup: Step by Step

Step 1: Conversation- the commissioner wanted to have their character acting out a pose where "you want them but you can't have them" kind of pose, using a picture of Rauru as reference where their body language was really closed off. So adapting it for the character, my ideas was to make it so the body language was closed off but also he's staring you down daring you to try something, while also revealing parts of his body! A dangerous dance kind of thing!
Step 2: Sketch- Actually accompl...

Smoochagram: Marrow and Toaster

The goal was to capture a hungry closeness! I think I did that decently well! Look at em! Can't keep their hands off each other! Find a room then acquire it, you two! Or don't. I'm fine with don't.

I find myself inching closer to the style I want! I've found I don't want to go full Marco Bucci and I  couldn't even if I wanted to, so I'm happy having temporarily landed elsewhere!

View Post

Smoochagram: Marrow and Toaster (Step by Step)

Step 1: Ideation- kept private for personal info sharing reasons! A hungry closeness is what I'm aiming for! Transient and vulnerable! The original idea was flopped overtop Toast's shoulder which fortunately can be made to fit these things,
Step 2- Sketch- I need to come up with a pose that incorporates a hungry closeness which I think is expressed through form, by pushing the difference in size. Marrow's silhuoette literally consuming Toaster's. The transience will be expressed through pa...

Smoochagram: Fynath and Breezy

This one was a fun to work on and depict. Liquid was used as a motif here to help represent the notion of "when we're together, the chaos of the world melts away." and how these two felt that most strongly in the shower. I do hope you enjoy this! It was a privilege to work on.

View Post

Smoochagram: Fynath and Bree (Step by Step)

Step 1: Ideate. This one worked out first try. There's a prevailing philosophy to never go with your first idea. The old dead artist philosophy was to do 25 sketches like this so you get a wide birth of ideas to play with and from an artistic perspective I agree with that. The first idea is rarely your most creative. But some ideas just hit the first time, and I rarely have time to come up with 25 different variations on the same theme that I equally think would be valid!
Step 2: Make that...

Smochagram: Necropup and Sprout

Smoochagram: Necrodrone Step by Step

Idea- So this one worked out pretty quickly. Soft, tender, size difference! Making it feel floaty was a good call I think!
Mood board- so for this I want touch, I want light atmosphere, I want tender soft colors, and clouds!
Refining the sketch- I'm trying to limit how much time I spend on the lines and keep it strictly to detailing out important shape information like the hands and face since the hands are important for that sense of touch and the face is something almost everyone will...

Smoochagram: Alek and Russ

So I got really experimental with this one and I'm torn. On the one hand this kind of leap and creativity is what I want out of art that I do! On the other, it takes too long.

UUUGH but look at it! It's a visual feast! I WANT IT!

And have you seen that gator and foyote? S-tier cuties man.

View Post

Alek and Russ smoochagram (Step by Step)

Develop the idea- Firstly you gotta talk to your commissioner and get an idea of what they want. For this, they wanted something goofy, new, and warm and adoring.
Sketch- The night before I made a little doodle of ideas I'd like to play with and one of having fire turn into water kind of just fit perfectly.
Mood board- creating a mood board I think is something that you just have to do. Get more complete and sometimes better ideas of what you want in front of you. The plume from the spl...
