We want to see you!

Hey everyone! Hope your week is going well for you so far.

Just wanted to remind you about something new we're trying. We regularly see names in our comments but rarely do we get to see your beautiful faces. With internet and easy access to your camera phone, we thought this would be a fun new experiment.

So........ what we wanted to do was create a video featuring your good selves. It's just a bit of fun, no pressure. What we would like is a short video of a maximum of 20 ...

So, the boats due for a clean out.. [Ep. 165]

It's been a good year since we've paid any REAL attention to La Vagabonde. Besides polishing the stainless, scraping the bottom when she gets a little molluscy and maintaining our equipment onboard, she's usually keeps things fairly easy for us. But we are in need of a few installations and we are due for a new coat of antifouling. We decide to sail up the coast to Just Catamarans, a place well known for it's legendary team and fast service.

We now have FANS YOU GUYS (the ones that vent...

CRUISE SHIPS. 7 Reasons why NOT to go!

7 Reasons why NOT to go on a cruise ship. Just do, anything else. We could think of a dozen more reasons why not to go on a cruise ship but we thought we'd try and keep this short (plus it was about 10000 degrees inside La Vagabonde with no air conditioning... maybe that's ONE plus to going on a cruise ship 😂). We feel really lucky to not have to have leaned towards the dark side in representing a cruise ship line, which is the opposite of what we're about. So a big thanks to each and ever...

Our Sailing Trip in Florida Ep. 164

Join us for our sailing trip in Florida with myself, Riles, and our bunch of new friends. A freediving lesson for these guys was a must, and we also couldn't let them leave without tasting some Vegemite. We spend some time exploring what Miami has to offer and we were stoked to find some hidden gems. Also, a few of our patrons give you a tour of their own sail boats! I hope you enjoy this one guys. Thanks for your support!

Welcome to our Home, Dear Patrons! [Ep. 163]

We trade island life for the city this week. But, for good reason. We finally get to meet our lovely group of Patrons who flew from all over to come see us and we're really excited to introduce them to you. Honestly, what an epic bloody week! Join us as we sail Biscayne Bay. Florida is going to be fun, if I don't die of excitement too soon.. this place has a lot going on 😃

Videos made with love, Elayna.

Let's make a video featuring YOU!

Hey hey!!!

Hope you're having a great start to October. Riley & I have been talking lately about how amazing it is to see the faces behind the names we see on a regular basis. What we also realised is that it's not just great that WE get to meet you, but it's also been surprising how well it's worked for YOU to meet each other.

We all seem to share something special in common, and that is a love for the ocean. Even those people who live miles away from it. So today we wanted to...

ALL HANDS ON DECK as we Make our Way to the USA [Ep.162]

It's all go go go here onboard La Vagabonde. We run into a few dramas on the main island of the Bahamas checking in and out of the country on the same day (you know how much we love doing that). It was as if we didn't follow the correct immigration procedures or something 😂. Join us for another humorous hop skip and a jump to the United States of America.

Thanks for supporting our vids, YOU make these possible

Love Elayna & Riley

Mysterious Plane Circles our Yacht in the Bahamas...

Well this was pretty incredible. It isn't every day that you are visited by two friends, in a plane. Join us onboard La Vagabonde for a few days of spearfishing, living off the land and a mission to a Blue Hole. Epic times my friends, we're so glad that you're here to join us! Videos made with love, and made POSSIBLE by you. Thank you dear patrons. 💛

Ps. I'm posting this from the airport right now on my way home to Australia... I cried the whole way to the airport haha. But we'll be...

Look away please, nothing to see here [Ep. 161]

We were completely stumped on what title to give this one. I made this video, and then I made it again, and then I changed it, and I changed it again and I really couldn't figure out what it was about exactly. We're on our way to Florida, as you guys know, so we're moving pretty quickly through these waters to get there in time for our Patreon meet up. I guess we could have talked about "nearly" crashing into the bridge but we didn't really so, I dunno... there are sharks!!!???

We hope ...

Catch and Cook: Spearfishing YELLOW TAIL SNAPPER 🐟 Oven Bake Onboard!

Join us for a catch and cook here in the turquoise waters of the open Atlantic Ocean. We had a calm enough day to take our deflated dinghy out and have a go at some fish for lunch. Riley chased down a beautiful sized Mutton Snapper, but he escaped. He managed to get his hands on a perfect sized Yellow Tail Snapper instead which I threw in the oven with a bunch of veggies. I've eaten a lot of fish in my life... and this one was well and truly up there!!  🙌🏼.

BITTEN ON THE ASS BY A PIG [Ep. 160]

I was warned. Various cruisers who we had met that had been in the area previously all knew what these pigs were like. People said to me "you watch out for them pigs son they'll gitcha." Alas, I did not listen. The bite through the shorts doesn't actually look too bad but in the next few days will become a large bruise.

There are probably some people who are going to say that it wasn't technically my ass and I will grant you that whilst it wasn't exactly the area I would like to k...

Pregnant on a Boat. Sometimes it Sucks. [Ep. 159]

We sail 100nm overnight to our first stop in the Bahamas, Acklins Island. Being pregnant on a boat, you can imagine it can make any slight feelings of morning sickness or nausea amplify. So on this trip, I was feeling very nauseous the whole time and basically didn't leave my little sleeping spot in the saloon other than to make a mad dash to the back of the boat. I've had a pretty sweet ride so far, but sometimes when it gets tough it makes you not so keen for the next trip and you wonder ho...

Bunted by a Shark (BONUS)

Hey you lovely humans. We just made a big video about our 5 scariest moments at sea which is on YouTube if you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhMgPLx44jA.

This was a little extra story just for you. Hope you got a giggle out of this one. I think Riley's a little embarrassed of the whole event but he really shouldn't be, a shark bunting you in the leg is a shark bunting you in the leg....

Crossing Borders on a Sail Boat

We go through this kind of stuff all the time. Today though things were a little more extreme. Having to schedule an appointment with the embassy months prior, printing pages and pages of information basically about the numbers we have previously been assigned, flying to Barbados, its all a bit of a headache really. You might remember we talked about this situation when we were filling out the paperwork in Antigua. We would have preferred to sail to Barbados but this would have made us late f...

Chance to come aboard La Vagabonde!

Hey everyone!

As you may know, we invite people on board La Vagabonde at random, throughout the year as another way for us to thank you for your support. We've done a heap of them now and we genuinely consider it one of the big highlights for us. There are still groups from our very first meet up who still keep in contact today with each other.

So, on top of the invites we have been announcing online, we would like to make an extra invite (patron + 1) available a little differentl...

The First Time We've Turned Back. 35+ Knots Wind on the nose! [Ep.158]

Join us for some bad weather in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Not much fun punching into 35+ knots for the 4 inexperienced sailors onboard. We then say goodbye to our guests and sit down to have a chat to you about the most recent series of unfortunate events and how everything led up to us running aground and an accident onboard. As cruisers, most people we meet suggest to us that we move rather quickly around the world. We never really spend too long in one place before we either start gett...

STONEFISH Encounter! World Class Diving at its Finest Ep. 157

Riley nearly knelt on a Stonefish, the most venomous fish in the world. Crazy stuff! I don't want to think about the mayhem that would have followed in getting Riley to the mainland had he been stung...

Whilst not currently being conch season as we post this today, it was the correct time when we filmed it ✌We didn't know it was world class diving in the Turks and Caicos until we had a chat to some fellow divers on a nearby boat. This is what it's all about my friends. Spending ...

Hospital in Bahamas, now he can't swim! Ep.156

We pay a visit to the hospital to stitch Riley back up after he fell down a hatch, immediately after running our boat aground.

The Turks and Caicos is considered world class diving and now Riley isn't allowed to swim for at least a week. It's going to kill the poor boy. Join us and our Australian family as we set off to explore what these pristine islands have to offer  🌊⛵️🌞.

Hope you enjoy the episode!

RUNNING OUR YACHT AGROUND!!! Ep.155

Yep. La Vagabonde got washed onto a sand bank and she wasn’t moving. It probably would have helped if the channel marker hadn't been washed away in a storm. With the wind and waves pushing us closer and closer to the rocks and shore, we were going to need some serious help to pull us out.. and fast! All the adrenaline and stress lead to an accident onboard. Looks like it'll be another trip to the doctors.

Thanks for watching!

Made with love,

The Frustration of Immigration [Ep.154]

A lot of "The Pale King" by David Foster Wallace is based around the psychical suffering that is inflicted on people who's job requires them to create or enforce arbitrary bureaucratic hurdles on civilians. The infliction of the inflictors. Trying to navigate the various webs of institutions and the idiosyncrasies of the people currently in charge or the particular island you find yourself on is my least favourite thing to do. I would rather be becalmed or trying to remove a hook from my neth...
