Where Do We Have This Baby?

If you've been joining us on our live streams, it's likely you already know about this dilemma. Do we have baby #2 in Antigua? The Bahamas? Do we try to get home to Australia and pay the crazy expenses of up to $18,000 with no guarantee of getting back to the boat? We don't lock a lot of things into the calendar but going back to Australia once per year to surround ourselves with close friends and family has been a really important thing for us. Home sickness is definitely a thing for us anyw...

We stay on DESERTED ISLANDS for 48 Hours!!! (The Unexplored Atlantic)

Join us for a very cool visit to Ilhas Desertas in Madeira. We really enjoyed our short time here. The scenery from our anchorage was something out of an adventure novel. Riley got super resourceful in his attempt to catch a fish the old fashioned way. I must admit, I was pretty impressed.

Anyway, I think you'll enjoy this one. We're publishing this vid on Friday so the good news is there is another episode coming very soon.

Thanks for being awesome!

STORM headed our way.. Batten down the hatches!

If surviving storms is your jam, this one is for you - haha! It actually wasn't as bad as first thought. Storm one minute, sunny the next, the weather never ceases to amaze us. Riley's rigging experience comes to play with some creative maintenance on board? Let us know what you thought.

Thanks for your support. Hope you have an amazing weekend!

We Overstayed Our Visa....

Anything related to visas is definitely not a strength of ours. Finding a tool in a foreign country is difficult. Finding the right information to speak to the right people with the right paperwork is next level difficulty for us. It's likely that this is not the last you will hear about the Schengen visa. A few issues with La Vaga are also keeping us on our toes.

Thanks for jumping on our live stream recently. It was great to catch up. For anyone who missed it, you can check it o...

Arriving into Madeira (includes extra announcement) [Ep.284]

Join us for our arrival into Madeira. It comes with all the new complicated signing in processes that come with living with the big C word. It was super exciting just to get a chance to get our taste buds on to something warm after having no gas on board.

And of course, this video includes our announcement of #2 but of course you already knew that from an older post last year. Lenny is going to have someone to play with in 2021. We're very excited. We'll chat more about this in our live...

Join us LIVE: JAN 10, Sunday 5PM AST

Join us LIVE on Sunday! (Unless you're in the southern hemisphere, it's Monday)

We really enjoy these and try to do them monthly but the Atlantic crossing really threw us out of routine. So it means we have even more to catch up on! Ocean crossings, babies, boats, life back in the tropics are just a few that come to mind.

Post your questions below and we'll get to as many as we can.

Look forward to catching up with you all then! (Look for a Patreon post with the private You...

The BEST kind of send off 🐬 ONE thing's gone right on this trip... [Ep.282]

Join us as we enjoy the fruits Sao Miguel has to offer. It's actually a quick stopover as we prepare for our journey to Madeira. It's only a 3-4 day sail but we want it to go smoothly. We've been sailing for over 5 years now and would you believe it, we may be still yet to perfect it.

Hope you have all had time to take a break and enjoy a moment with friends and family. If not, you can do it with us now.

Dear Patrons. MERRY XMAS!

Merry Christmas everyone! As you know our weekly episodes take some time to produce (film / edit / add music / animations / voice overs etc) so they are normally a little behind real time HOWEVER, I produced this clip in real time to send out our virtual Christmas greeting card.

For those who haven't seen my previous updates, you can track Riley, Jack (his cousin) and Andre during La Vagabonde's current sail across the Atlantic from Canary Islands to Antigua 2020-12-23 08:43:23 +0000 UTC View Post

Our Interview with 81 Year Old Solo Sailor Sven Yrvind

Here's our interview with one very interesting sailor we came across recently. Sven Yrvind is a Swedish sailor, boat builder, and writer. He is famous for sailing alone across oceans in tiny boats of his own design. He just recently sailed for 78 days from Norway to the Azores. We hope you find him as interesting as we did.

Enjoy x

Bad weather before we disembark on a voyage south [Ep.281]

We're in the not-so-terrible position of being stuck on the Azores. Our old foe The Weather has delayed our departure for Madeira but nevertheless we're making the most of it. Join us for some roaming around on Faial and some of our last moments on the Azores for this trip. Lenny befriends his first goat and we're getting ready for returning to open water sailing. It feels good to get back to the water and be working together as a team for some serious sailing. And with all the advanced telem...

Track Riley across the Atlantic Ocean!

Hey fam, if any of you are interested in tracking Riley across the Atlantic and their latest speeds etc, here is a private link for you guys (we'd appreciate if you kept it to yourselves). Updates I've received: They've had perfect conditions, relatively light winds so they've had the code D up most of the time, Riley hasn't had this much sleep on a crossing EVER and they're wearing shorts and t-shirts. 🌞 all is well.

RACE to top of Volcano. Loser gets whipped by a drone

Race to the top of Mount Pico, the highest mountain of Portugal, at 2,351 metres above sea level, and is one of the highest Atlantic mountains; it is more than twice the elevation of any other peak in the Azores.

Due to Lenny not quite ready to be climbing volcanoes, we had to take turns of doing the trek, assigning the winner to the quickest recorded time..... until I lost and realised it was because Riley barely filmed so I had no choice to have him disqualified - haha!

From Sea to Sky. Paragliding for the first time! [#279]

We were in for a treat! Tom who is a professional paraglider offered to take us out and it was one of the most incredible experiences. What a beautiful place to be doing it too. We all weren't feeling 100% but once we were up in the air, we could only embrace the moment.

Hope you enjoyed this one. We certainly did.

Freediving and the time we were offered 10 Million Dollars

Crazy right? Would you have replied to the email? Are we naive to think it could have been true? We'll never truely know what went on there.

We're out on the island of Faial. We're going freediving, making sure we're following the local rules and regulations, and we're joined by the most amazing sea creature which we hear is teeming in the Azores this time of year. We're checking out new volcanic landmass and having a good old time in Horta.  Also any diver/science/shark people o...

BOAT LIFE: Heading back out to Sea

This is boat life and we're getting our life on the road again and hitting the waves. After some truly Top Gun piloting from yours truly to escape the marina, we're on our way to the next of the beautiful Azores Islands, Faial. As usual the wind is in our face and slow when we're sailing, and blowing hardest when we're on land. Boat life hey, but we've made it to the sailors paradise at Horta and we're ready to get stuck in.

Thanks once again to those really helpful sugges...

Breathtaking Views of Sao Jorge (Ep. 276)

It's truly one of the best walks we have done. What is this place?? We go on a massive descent down the hills of Sao Jorge, hiking on to a little surf village. The Azores have been dotted by these beautiful settlements by the sea but this one might just take the cake. Possibly because it took such a big effort to get there. The people living there are seriously remote, what a place to live.   The Azores though, seriously, nicest people you'll meet in the world. We've been helped out...

Spearfishing in the Azores Islands (Elayna 2 🏆, Riley 0 )

We get the full Azores spearfishing experience with our new friends, we've swapped sails for engines and we're speeding around some of the best spots here in the middle of the Atlantic. Yep there's still fish out here if you're good enough, even though Riley's having a bit of trouble and Andre's stuck his catch to the ocean floor 😂 If you're ever visit Sao Jorge, look out for our mate John for a tour of this wonderful island, a lovely place with lovely company. And Lenny finally gets some ...

Struggling with seasickness...

Seasickness..... It really messes with your head but fingers crossed I can resolve it and get back to the glory days of not feeling ill on sail. We had a plan to fly to France to see someone about it but unfortunately travelling across borders is not what it used to be.  We're taking off for the next island in the Azores chain Sao Jorge, and we struggle in the shadow of Pico, the massive monolith in the middle of the Atlantic which is sending the winds crazy. Some experimental night sail...

Day 2,184 of Sailing Around the World | BOAT LIFE

That's a lot of days of sailing. Hope we calculated that correctly....Join us back in the Azores as we slowly make our way towards Sao Jorge! Hopefully we can have something small for Lenny to sail once he gets a little older. Riley likes the look of the OC Te...

We’re after a New Editor!

Hey fam, we’ve recently had a new job opening as a full-time editor for SLV videos. We thought we’d ask you guys first, just incase any of you were a professional editor, or had a friend or family member who was and is looking for work.

We’re after an editor who’s had experience, who knows more than we do and can teach us something. Someone who is creative. Someone who loves to sit down for 8 hours a day on a laptop and loves that 🤣 they’re a rare find.

The TRUTH about Buying a CATAMARAN. Don't be LIED TO..

Thank you all for allowing us to remain independent so we can make videos like this 🙌🏼 (we're probably going to piss off a few companies here lol). Here is the truth about buying a catamaran and the things you need to learn and look out for.

I wonder at the size and agility of the cat which has been placed amongst the pigeons. This video took quite a bit of work to pull together, we did about 10 revisions and I'm still not 100% happy with it but it goes a long way towards de...

Of All Places, Where Do I Injure Myself?

Out of all the places we've been, of all the things we've done, who would suspect, in the middle of a forest, the humble PLAYGROUND SLIDE. 😱 We're not gonna let anything slow us down though, functioning limbs or not. Terceira is such a beautiful place and the weather is being very very kind to us. And the pineapple here. Again, best thing ever. Lenny's loving it,  even the local deer population are trying to be friends with us to get a slice. We also finally get some fish on the end o...

BOAT LIFE: 24 Hours at Sea!

Join us on board as we set sail once again through the Azores. While Lenny's sailing ability is naturally limited at this young age, hopefully when he's old enough, he can take over from night shift - haha. In the meantime we are so blessed to have Andre crewing with us as we make it to the next island. We're headed to Terceira and its capital Angra do Heroísmo where we get to explore a stunning 500 year old town.  No adventure is complete without some food shortages, pragmatic menus an...
