Hey everybody,
So my last video concluded with a teaser for the next big project. What I've been exploring for the last few weeks though, is if there was something I wanted to do in-between. Smaller subjects, another franchise, or a welcome surprise. I've played a lot of games.
Synthetik, Remnant: From the Ashes, Motorsport Manager, The Ball, The Outer Worlds, and some Pinball game on the Xbox Pass I don't remember.
That's really the reason why I've decided to just move onwa...

On two occasions already, I've played games that would've suited the video I released just before playing them. First, it was Resident Evil 2 Remake. Now, it's Shadow Ops: Red Mercury.
While Call of Duty 4 unquestionably popularized the Modern Military Shooter which dominated the 7th console generation, there were in-fact many, many attempts by large publishers and companies to spark the imitat...

What's your favorite console and why?
It's tough to pick one, because some consoles that I used religiously now irritate me when working. Recording on the PS2 natively is generally a last resort because it's the weakest 6th generation console in performance, the Xbox 360 Controller makes my hands cramp, and Wii's motion controls just pale in-comparison to VR.
But in-terms of a complete experience, probably the Xbox 360. Preferabl...

Am I talking about this soundtrack because I recently 100% this game? Yes, in part. I am of course talking about it in larger part to its quality. While preferring isolation and silence while writing or editing, I do sometimes need a soundscape to inspire. Ambient works by the likes of Trent Reznor, Michael McCann, or Sigur Ros traditionally satisfy.
But Lara Croft GO's OST has become one of my main drivers recently. Probably because its intentions and purpose aren't unlike my ...

The reason for not currently making a video out of this subject is mostly because the topic doesn't really build up to a greater point like before. So, all someone would get out of it is "this man doesn't like something I do" which isn't too interesting. But those of you reading this are likely my most curious viewers, so here's your opportunity to throw me to the wolves for thoughts on the following...

If you would have a remaster/remake "remastered" which would it be?
Honestly, MGS: Twin Snakes might be a real contender, because the real letdown of that game is its cutscenes and presentation rather than the gameplay. Taking the best pieces of MGS2's gameplay and combining it with the nostalgia of MGS1 is a great idea, but the game's cutscene director made Kojima's prior work look like a Documentary.
A remaster with redirected cutscenes c...

I seem to have an affection for movies with characters that very rarely show any, and if there's a lack of anything in Crank, aside from physics, it's affection. These characters are completely despicable. Vile, perverted, questionable at best people, and the chaos that ensues around them is the ultimate slow motion train wreck.
In a good way!
It is hilarious to watch "Chev Chelios" hold up hospitals with a Deagle, ride police motorbikes with no handlebars, and shoot some...

Remnant: From the Ashes is a very good game. I'm always arguing in-favor of middle market games, and the success of Remnant's a shining example of its potential. Gameplay's tight with fun to fire weapons, atmospheric levels, and an addicting progression system.
Unfortunately, it's suffers from an issue that in the grand scheme of things is small, but to me, really grinds the gears, and luckily, it's one that can be summarized in a Gif.

I've heard people describe many games from many genres as "comfortable" over the years: Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Halo, DOOM, and many others. What makes a game "comfortable"?
Various ways. I think the primary method is sound & visuals. Lots of games are about making the player react instinctively. Gunshots, explosions, loud engines, slashes, shouting, etc. Playing something Stardew or Minecraft, only has those situations at their most ...

It's said you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, yet that's what I did for Kasabian's latest record. Looking like the VHS cover of a College Short, this image didn't leave any expectations, and it certainly doesn't sync up to the album's opening which is balls to the wall!
III Ray (The King)'s and Twentyfourseven are absolute bangers in desperate need of more usage in shows, film, and games.
And in traditional Kasabian fashion, the whole record isn't made up of British Rock 'n R...

Booting up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2's very 2000's soundtrack, I was instantly struck with a memory. Dad really didn't like the song I always played on repeat, Pulse Ultra's "Build Your Cages" because of its moody lyrics.

The dream entices you to give yourself away
Sacrifice everything you know, you love

Hey everybody! Just making a quick-update. This is my checklist currently written on the 2nd monitor of what needs to be done to complete this video. It's so close to the end, but I've promised myself not to pull all-nighters anymore so as a result, I'll be doing the editing of all of this tomorrow, meaning the video will most likely be posted on Saturday (assuming YT doesn't screw me).

What was the last game you loved playing, only to find out that critics and the general audience panned it?
With Steam Reviews, word of mouth, and Twitter, it's rather difficult to get an impression of a game without any hint of what it might be in-terms of quality.
Probably Halo 4. Not so much by critics obviously, but prior to starting Years Later, I was not at all in-tune with the deb...

Hello everybody!
April's come and gone rapidly and hopefully world change is on the horizon, but for now, here's the current status on my work. Firstly, I need to stop assuming projects are going to be small, because this light hearted feature has grown into a near 30 minute piece covering four vastly different games, one of which will be the one to receive a Years Later video in the near future.
As you can see, lots of individual clips I need to put together, but the bulk of work...

I've collected so many games at this point, that when scrolling through the library, I don't even bother checking what genre, sales, or ratings are of a particular game. Just launch it completely blind, to see what it gives. Synthetik's one of the biggest surprises I've had doing this in a long while.
I've always loved the idea of Roguelikes. Replaying something to get further and further into it's demanding decent into hell, collecting new weapons and items along the way. But in practi...

Something I've seen online is people calling Half Life: Alyx a failure because "it didn't make a profit," despite Alyx's development budget never being made public. It's seemingly assumed the game's a failure because Valve set out to make a "Triple-A VR Game," and three hundred thousand copies sold is minuscule in Triple-A.

When you cover multiple games in one video (such as the Ghost In The Shell video), what's that writing process like? Do you play in release order?
Definitely play in-order of release when possible, to avoid a scenarios of being unable to appreciate a game's design due to dated graphics or controls. Writing process however isn't unlike my normal work. Similar research, playtime, and scripting, of course, the main challenge is finding the thread th...

There's a gap in the Military shooter market. The most obviously popular brand is Call of Duty. Fast paced, chaotic, action-packed gameplay that offers a wide variety of modes built on its high-speed foundation. Then there's alternatives like Counter Strike and Rainbow Six Siege that feature similarly fast-paced gunfights, but slower strategy and more deliberate movement. Going beyond that, you find yourself with more hardcore titles like Rising Storm 2, Squad, and even the Arma series.

Weeks ago, I wrote about how DOOM Eternal (a great game) ironically put its franchise in the position where a potential third installment could repeat DOOM 3 from 2004, where the game's generally praised for its technology but whose launch is contentious among fans for not continuing the brand's action-FPS origins.
Whether this repeat occurs or not depends on how ID Software Make a new DOOM 3, ...

How do you decide on the subjects for your Years Later... videos?
It's a combination of passion project and freshness. I made a contract with myself a long time ago that I wouldn't make content, no matter how heavily requested, if I held no interest. There's no money in the world that could make me do a Years Later on World of Warcraft, for example.
There's also the feeling of whether I'll be able to add anything new to the conv...

I believe I now know what it's like to be introduced to Witcher via Netflix, and become a fan, because while I've already played Witcher, I haven't played Castlevania, and now Netflix has made me a fan.
This show took my low expectations of a video-game adaption, and immediately turned them on their head. Upon seeing the credits, it's easy to see why. The show's created by Warren Ellis, famed comic writer of works such as Transmetropolitan, Injection, Trees, Cemetery Beach, and more. Wh...

While I'm a Racing Fan, I hadn't willed myself into an Endurance Race for Years; not since I was a Child who consumed Gran Turismo almost exclusively. It's not that I'm opposed to long gaming sessions (I did play 6000+ matches of Halo 2) it simply came to exhausting that particular series.
Gran Turismo (and I say this with love) doesn't hold up in various areas, mainly in the dynamics of races. AI's not sophisticated, Tire management's simplistic, as is fuel, and obviously, damage didn'...

I've been thinking a lot about OSTs since DOOM ETERNAL's blew me out of the water. What are some new of your favorite video game OSTs?
I really enjoyed Resident Evil 3 Remake's, which managed to address people's general complaints about RE2R's soundtrack lacking presence, without spoiling its dark atmosphere. However, Half Life Alyx absolutely floored me with the quality of its tracks, so perfectly echoing Kelly Bailey's talen...

Something Television, Video-Games, and Film can always do is introduce people to music they'd ordinarily miss. Continuum was one of those shows for me, introducing a variety of Vancouver artists I wouldn't have known. And it's through this multi-year timeline that's led to me listening to Dralms' latest album, being a fan of the leader's previous work, even prior to this band's formation.
This album is lacking the explosive tracks found on the band's debut EP that I've recommended in th...

If there is ever a single-player GTA 6, what new gameplay mechanics would you like to see?
Years ago, I heard someone pitch the idea of a Grand Theft Auto taking place in Mexico, with players taking the role of a Rogue Cop, and I absolutely adore the concept. I'm quite tired of GTA's insistence on parodying whatever Show/Movie is popular while adding "aMeRiCaN dReAm BaD."

We're nearing the end of the month, and as such, I thought I'd inform what I'm pondering over. Now, next video is likely to be what I mentioned previously, a fun exploration of "The Worst Game I Enjoy." As tempting as it is to revisit controversial sequels such as Dragon Age 2, or Deus Ex: Invisible War however, the game's are so long to complete and for not enough screen-time to justify more delays. Plus, I prefer not to repeat myself, in the event these games get a mo...

I'm strange when it comes to old games.
For Deus Ex, and Metal Gear Solid, I must've started them up seven or eight times before finally clicking with the dated controls, visuals, and menus. I repeated this process very recently with Tomb Raider. Having recently explored the series after pondering over its lost potential, I decided to finally see what all the fuss was about, and play the originals made by CORE Design, rather than Crystal Dynamics.
And thankfully, at least for the ...

Like... really good!
ID Software should happily pat themselves on the back for making a game that after completing this weekend, made an already intense game, seem relatively tame by comparison.
