So I've Finally Played… SSX Tricky!
I know, not the most up to date subject, even by my standards…
But as someone who is such a mega-fan of SSX 3 from 2003, it is kinda strange that I've never played a one second of another game in the SSX series, let alone the game that arguably put the series on the map.
SSX, the original was an impressive launch title for the Playsta...

I'd been meaning to watch Nimona for months, ever since I stumbled upon its thumbnail on Netflix, and its recent nominations for best Animated film were the latest reminder...
And now wish I hadn't waited, because this was one of the most flat out fun movies I've watched in sometime, while having enough heart to be genuinely moving, to the point where both the friend I watched with and myself were being reminded of The Iron Giant.
It doesn't reach that films heights, but ...

Hey everybody!
It's been a little quiet from me recently, but I want to assure that's because it's been loud and chaotic behind the scenes (in a good way.)
Firstly, my Ubisoft video script is done, at the very least, done enough to start recording. I do think I'm kicking a bit of a hornets nest with it, which while that's one of my goals in this stage of my """"career"""", I'm not setting out to be inflammatory. So I'll be posting early cuts for valuable feedback from y'all.

Have you considered "YouTube retirement" after the whole situation with game theory and tomska?
Not really.
Though I'm not surprised to see so many different Youtubers of the same generation who've been grinding for 10+ years on a sometimes weekly basis, it's honestly rather amazing that this hadn't happened sooner.
Hats off to them.

I've mentioned Hesitation Marks quite a few times in the past, but due to licensing troubles, the Album actually hasn't been on many streaming services in the last couple years, and as a result, it'd been a hot minute since I'd listen to it start to finish...
Coming from The Downward Spiral, Fragile, and With Teeth, I was one of those people who wrote off this album's minimalist synth-based atmospheric tone, but with each passing year, I steadily grew to love this album, and the latest ...

There's a section in my current video about Ubisoft that I don't think I can squeeze in without worsening its pace… however, it doesn't stop fascinating me.
When you've got mega-corporations that are multi-national with thousands of people employed, it's compelling to see a cohesive narrative and bias form within it over time.
Obviously, there's the story about EA's Ultimate Team start...

With all of this talk about outdated video-games, mostly spawned by Starfield, it's interesting to go back to a game that's undoubtedly dated, and yet, something that is still as compelling as it was in 2008.
I recently tried this game on Xenia to see if we finally have something that makes the infamous PC Port obsolete, and from the hours that I played, I think we finally do...
Which means more people can at last experience the superbly written and directed cut-scenes, diverse an...

When making your mind up about a piece of media, be it films, movies, books and games, do you look at other people's reviews to help form your opinion? And do you a piece of media, that you reckon you wouldn't have given a chance and enjoyed, if you followed other people's opinion. I wouldn't have listened to Royal Blood's debut, off Fantano's negative review, being an idiot teen at the time of the album's release that took everything he said as the definiti...

Two years ago, I wrote a Randomly Mine called Content.
Five years ago, I wrote a video called You Can't Put Gameplay On The Box.
So welcome to this article, where I'm basically merging the two, because the issue of content is still present, as is the inability to sell the aspects of games that matter.
Forza Motorsport's two months old now, and it's been… struggl...

Nothing like starting the new year by recommending... a 10+ year old film?
Don't think that'll become a popular saying, but after re-watching Andor (a show previously recommended here), it was striking how much I missed Beau Williamon's writing from House of Cards.
Beau was one of Andor's writers, and his talant for political thrillers was applied brilliantly to that shows many scenes of Coruscant; it's refreshing for Star Wars to have good dialogue.
However, as I can't reco...

I’ve actually been asked about this first point a few times, which is nice, makes it feel more tangible than just a friend and I daydreaming concepts. I completed a penultimate draft of the 007 short mentioned previously, and the direct...

Cyberpunk 2077.
Black Mirror.
Nine Inch Nails.
100 Bullets.
Gone Girl.
From games to shows, albums, comics, and books, I love me some dark, gritty stories.
Humanity's dark side is endlessly fascinating, and will probably always be while the majority of works will be about the opposite, to reassure audiences, leave them feeling happy rather than depressed.

Are you a fan of romance? And not just necessarily in video games.
Not generally, but being how invested I can get in certain stories, I don't think its because romance stories aren't compelling. The problem I have is I think most romance stories are pretty god damn boring.
Buddy Cop movies rely on a Duo. Revenge movies rely on an antagonist, or inciting incident. Yet, so many romances in media seem to think that the act just two ch...

This album is weird...
While I enjoyed it on the first listen, it wasn't what I was looking for, IE, 2000's bangers like the title track Venom. Wargasm (UK)'s mostly known for their Prodigy-esk take on NuMetal (helped by Prodigy drummer Kieron Pepper being a producer), but this album is instead very experimental.
Death Rattle straight-up gives the vibe of a diaster horror film, meanwhile Bang Ya Head with ...

Welcome everybody to the last Month of 2023!
I'm already looking to move past last month, being it welcomed me with open arms by giving me COVID. Thankfully, it wasn't actually the worst illness I've dealt with this year, and the worst symptoms I had last for about two days. The rest of the week was slowly getting rid of the sniffles, and getting my energy back.
That was trickier, but doable, and I spent it…
Admittedly, mostly on the previously mentioned 007 Short Film.

I've been getting the impulse to boot up Apex Legends again…
It happens every couple of months, it's virtually the only service game I come back to every couple of months, and for lots of reasons.
One, I think it's still easily the best game to ever iterate the Battle Royale formula.
The speed, guns, movement, maps, abilities, squads, battles,...

Popular gaming isn't really gaming in the sense of creating an unique experience. I feel that it follows in the footsteps of, and without a better example, social media -- instant or immediate gratification.
Aside from your regular culprits of Formula One, Call of Duty, Far Cry, something similar to the first time you played the Blood and Wine DLC emotion kind of thing, could be a turning point, don't you think?

I've watched, listened, and played a lot of stuff this last week, almost none are something I can whole heartedly recommend.
Fumes isn't amazing.
It's not even out yet.
I played this pre-alpha demo for a little over ten minutes.
However, it stands out immediately. It's one of those small scale indie games that has a level of polish in its core-gameplay you don't normally expect. I don't know if this game's made by professionals or prodigies, but either way, Fumes shows a l...

Normally, when I'm writing, I've got a point to make… it's not always a good point, but a point never the less.

Continuing the conversation, in terms of this statement "This isn't just going to resolve itself by making "better" games"
Wouldn't you agree that a gamechanger (albeit extremely unrealistic), one of a kind, unique AAA installment could entice and provide some form of solace towards the large majority of a disappointed audience who are looking for something engaging?
I mean, if could find another Far Cry 3 with modern day CGI an...

Ah... it's good to have ya back Fincher.
Not only is it Fincher, but its Fincher combined with one of my favorite things, a graphic novel.
I love them, mainly because almost all the greats have a thing in-common; unlike a written novel, which can be as verbose as a student paper, comics have to get to the point. Vertigo's 100 Bullets tells you "mystery man gives a suitcase of untracable bullets, a gun, and proof of who was responsible for wronging you."
"Deal ...

Something I've been mocking for years and years are some people's obsession of guessing when the gaming industry is going to crash.
Channels relying on a narrative of doom and gloom will wax lyrical about the state of modern gaming and are all too eager to retell the story of 1983, a time when video-games were made in months not years, by individuals not teams, and in ...

I tweeted about not fully clicking with TOOL, yet getting into several groups they clearly inspired.
This album was my catalyst for that.
The long songs with their long build ups and long riffs mean that it's still not an album I instinctively go to, but the times I do, I find myself slipping into another world. Almost everything on this album, from the vocals to the guitars has this ability to seamlessly transition from beautiful to heavy.
And when I'm not in the m...

There's undeniably a nostalgic attachment I've got with this game, having binged it alongside Tony Hawk's Underground on my PS2 as a kid, but playing SSX 3 today, it stunned me just how damn good the game still is.
Not just from a gameplay perspective, which it is; tricks are satisfying to pull, speed's intense, and the courses, both for Races and Freestyle events are nuts.
What really stands out is the outstanding presentation is.
It's one thing to have a great selection of...

One of the earliest conversations I had with Sparky was when he asked me…

My answer was of course, look at the amount of talented people who fell off later in their careers.
I bring this up because that's what it felt like earlier this year.
It felt like after I made "I Love Racing Games, They Suck!" it somehow felt like I'd forgotten how to edit, write, or even just think about games in a serious manner. Looking back on it, burnout's likely th...

I watched a director's debut on Netflix that was so bad... I had to cleanse my pallet.
I needed a proper crime mystery, and Gone Baby Gone, well, it'd been 10+ years since I'd last seen this movie, and what I rediscovered was a film that's even better than I remember.
Everything from Harry Gregson-Williams' score, to Casey Affleck's leading role, and Dennis Lehane's story all accompany Ben Affleck's terrific directing and editor.
