Actually, that last like could be my life motto. Lord knows I say it often enough.
Speaking of which, this is NOT the last of the MAGFest comics. As with the public stuff going up on SmackJeeves, there’s simply too much material to finish all at once in any reasonable length of time. At least, not at the rate I’ve been finishing things lately. Thus, there’s going to be at LEAST one more set of Patreon comic going up after the next batch of public comics are finally don...

See, social media followers? I warned you that the words “Sudden Apocalyptic Need To Poop” would be appearing somewhere in these comics! And I’m not exaggerating for comedic effect here, either. It really was “everything’s fine, everything’s fine, everything- WAITING IS NOT AN OPTION- LEAVE NOW!” ...and, of course, the crowd had more than doubled by the time I got back. 2017-02-20 23:56:58 +0000 UTC

This page would be sort of confusing under any circumstances, that was kind of the point. Still, I think I made it more impenetrable than it really needed to be through some awkward page layout. There probably should have been three rows of panels, not just two. The first panel would have the whole top, the second and third would be the middle, and then the final panel would have more room to establish a big room full of suture tech and time portals and whatnot. Heck, there should...

I’m weirdly observant of the music that plays in hotel bathrooms . I’m really not sure why that is, other than the fact that I seem to pay entirely too much attention to easy listening music in general .

I, for one, feel that God has better things to do that work signs and portends regarding the future of one dweeb’s obscure webcomic. If I were conceited enough to think otherwise, though, I would be making a HUGE deal out of the fact that our roadtrip up to MAGFest got underway a good twelve hours late. Seeing as how literally EVERYTHING I’VE DONE SINCE has been heavily delayed in one form or another, starting off so late could easily be viewed as Incredibly Ominous Fore...

(I was torn on whether to lump this in with the Far Out There blogs or make it some kind of standalone, but the later would make it hard to find again afterwards. Plus, these characters HAVE made cameos in Far Out There, so that’s good enough justification for me!)
Now that Becky & Gilb is officially revived, I’ve been getting questions about another early comic experiment that I left on a cliffhanger years and years ago: 2017-01-23 04:01:05 +0000 UTC

HEY WOW! This one is actually coming out a week after the last one!
I know this is a trope of school-based stories in general, so it feel a little petty to specifically complain about this one instance (in a show that barely even takes place in a classroom). Still, it's EXTRA silly to me that Jintan can just turn up at school again for the first time in ages, and there's STILL an open seat right next to the only other character in the room he's dramatically required to be next to.

Oh boy, where to even start...
So, in all honesty, I'd kind of been planning to wait until after the big Conventional Wisdom MAGFest update to start doing Anohana comics again, but GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY that batch of comics is giving me trouble. It's huge, and it's dragging out FOREVER, to the point where not putting out anything until then just isn't going to be an option. So here's you're "weekly" anime comic, folks!
Also, I was going to appologize for doing a comic that's mo...

BECAUSE VIOLENT THREATS SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS. Gilb has learned the ways of the humans well.
And what’s that at the bottom? TO BE CONTINUED? Why yes! One of the many, MANY reasons I never put chapter five out on DeviantArt back in the day was cos, well, it was just too LONG to do in that format. And even when I switched gears to individual pages, it was STILL too long. This is only the first half, right here. But fear not, I am gonna do the rest, probably after I’ve had a c...

Sometimes I feel like these comics create the impression that I don’t have any faith in the public education system… which is an entirely accurate impression to have of me, but no one I usually go out of my way to project.

Oh right! Becky’s a character in this comic too, isn’t she? Yeah, I feel kinda bad that the part of the story that ended up being this comic’s big comeback should be one where one of the two title characters barely appears.

You are now imagining horrible, unspeakable things being done to four screaming, terrified children. MERRY CHRISTMAS! (honestly, I’m kind of glad these posts dragged out so long that this didn’t go up on the 25th)
So, this obviously goes against every single one of those “simple and print friendly” rules I keep talking about, but MAN was it worth it. I think a slightly polished version of this would make an awesome poster.

While I’m probably not a good enough artists to truly take advantage of it, one of the advantages of the comic art form is that you can easily show multiple events simultaneously. Short of doing a split screen, it’d be very difficult to cut between four similar but distinct events like this in video form. But on a comic page, I can just throw it all at you at the same time, and your brain can just absorb it in one chuck, like the clever glob of grey goop that it is.

When you’re drawing a comic without dialog, you have to establish character via other means. Like, say, cluttered rooms. (By the way, I’m still conditioned to use “pro-wrestling fan” to indicate “tough meathead jock-type” even though that’s been demonstrably untrue for a good decade or two)
Also, I’m breaking the “no screentone” rule even more here. BAD ME! To explain, adding extra layers of shading and color takes a LOOOOT longer than it ever seems like ...

I’d just like to take a second and thank the copy/paste command and MangaStudio’s “free transform” function for making that backwards map possible.
Also, let’s all try not to think about how long it would take a being as tiny as Glib to travel even just a few blocks without help.

“The pathetic Earthlings believe their “back-packs” are the pinnacle of back-based carrying systems. Our technology is LIGHTYEARS more advanced!”
Also, there I go again, breaking my “no tons of screentone” rule.

Yeah, TED. Geez, we just can’t leave you alone in the lab for five minutes, can we, TED?
(apologies to any readers with the name of Ted)
Also, it seems Becky’s family has somehow captured tech from The Black Hole as well as Doctor Who. Dear Lord, they can cross continuities! So THAT’S how these characters keep making cameos in Far Out There!

Gamera’s Pizza is nowhere near as good as Godzilla’s Pizza, but it’s a LOT cheaper, and still pretty satisfying if you’re just really craving some pizza and don’t care how nutritious it is.
Also, if this whole thing were animated, there’d HAVE to be some spy movie music playing over this scene.
(BTW, I straight up fell asleep while posting this page, which does not bode well for my getting the rest of the pages up before dawn)

The thought just now occurs to me that Gilb being able to determine the identities of four separate children from the evidence on one single spitball raises several weird, icky questions. Questions which will NEVER be addressed in this comic.
Also, I’m already breaking my rule about not doing lots of atmospheric screentones and the like. Crap.

CONFIRMED: WII REMOTES ARE ACTUALLY ALIEN TECH!!!
So, I set a ground rule for myself not to do layers and layers of colors and screen tones and gradients in these comics. Some of that was just to make sure I actually got everything done on time (and that still only barely happened) but also because I really want to get Becky & Gilb into a state where I could print it at some point. I'm gonna have to completely re-draw the previous chapters to get the art even somewhat printable, so I made ...

IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING! At long last, the promised new Becky & Gilb comics are hitting The Internet, and YOU ALL GET TO SEE IT FIRST!
…actually, the more exciting thing is that I’m actually managing to get these pages up while it’s technically still Christmas. This was one BUSY holiday, and I was kind of afraid I wouldn’t get around to actually posting things until at least the 26. Given how shaky the schedule for things has been so far, I probably COULD have allowed the latest lapse to just go without mention and I doubt anyone would really have noticed. BUT it’s Christmas and all, and actually that’s part of the problem right there. See, for those of you who remember, I promised you a big ol’ new chapter of Becky & Gilb as a Christmas treat, and it’s still coming! All SEVENTEEN PAGES OF IT. Yeah, that’s part of the reason I let tho...

There's a sick, twisted irony that the two things I'm always talking about are (A.) how much time I'm spending working on drawing comics and (B.) how I'm not getting enough comics out. It'd have been nice if I'd had by like "quit wating time with Artist Alley and get focused on producing content" moment of clarity BEFORE the crunch of finishing all the Christmas stuff rolled around. Either way, i'm still neglecting the Patreon & watching the donations wither up and die.
Oh, and...

Part of me feels bad about kicking off this series with a comic that, let's face it, isn't REALLY about the show at all. But then again, these comics are as much about my experience watching the shows as they are about the shows themselves, and if you've been following ANYTHING I've put out over the past month or two, you know how much that stuff was hanging over every other experience I've had. Don't worry, we'll get to more of what you actually expected soon.
