First SKR Bear Klipper edition print.

A mini me at 50mm/s external perimeter, 80mm/s internal perimeter, and 120mm/s infill. Those are the requested speeds so it didn’t reach them but it tried to for sure.

Retractions look clean, pressure advance looks good, tuning is okay but theses speeds and higher acceleration it’s harder to hide that this is a bed slinger.

I even tuned the input shaper with an ADXL345 accelerometer for the first time ever which was an interesting experience. Highly recommend the resonance w...

SKR Bear Klipper Edition

Finally sat down and hammered away at about 10 hours of firmware debugging because yet again Klipper fails to provide all the lovely and juicy coding goodness I need to make the firmware sing quickly.

I have the majority of goodies transferred like neopixels, Z align, and so on. I still have a lot of work to do in the menus as well as setting up the firmware to have more variants built right in.

If you're brave I've uploaded the alpha firmware to 2021-03-26 04:44:47 +0000 UTC View Post

Analyzing the test

Running the first tests with the new WC nozzle I got from Jason and had some interesting results.

I’m using nearly the same gcode here but am finding that the print is more matte using the tungsten carbide nozzle.

On the other hand layer smoothness and extrusion seem better.

After chatting with Jason it’s been confirmed that the outer housing is hardened steel which I concluded to the same after my test prints. Basically the hardened steel being an inferior...

Something new.

A custom and very rare Tungsten Carbide nozzle arrived today from good friends at LDO. Thanks Jason!!!

Going to pop this onto a printer and will start printing some brutal filaments ASAP!

New toys!!!! Thanks Sergio!

Thanks to Sergio I now have a Thermo-Anemometer so I can attain CFM values to compare fans, ducting, and other goodies.

Basically this allows me to get baseline values for just how much pressure a fan has and then use that value to compare it to other fans and modifications to said fans.

So what does our very well loved Sunon fan measure up? Great. Based on a surface output area of 1 sqft we have a value of 480. Yes I know the real cfm isn’t 480 but this value is based on an o...

Why we don’t duct axial fans coming soon.

CAD is opening up some new tests and soon I’ll have a CFM tester as well but until then I’m going to finish designing a poor man’s tester and get some physical results.

Stay tuned!

The LED Matrix Clock Project

Since learning Solidworks something I’ve wanted to do is make more practical prints and combine them with arduino projects. Here is a relatively inexpensive project that takes about 30 minutes to put together and costs about $40 or less. Much less if you use aliexpress.

I haven’t finished all the design work just yet as I’m waiting on a fancy mount to hold the nano but even with a small breadboard it all fits inside the case.

I’ll be sharing the project filled...

I make mistakes too.

You know some people look up to me as if I know everything but man is that the opposite of reality.

I was struggling so hard with Klipper on the MK3s. I was getting really good prints at faster speeds but I was struggling with retractions.

Changed 400 billion settings and then ended up swapping the hotend twice!!! Still didn’t fix it. I was at my wits end.

I asked people and nobody had any idea. Shared my config and nobody had an answer.

Jumped back and forth be...

Bringing back a classic: Prusa MK2S

Someone asked if klipper could bring new life to a MK2S. Challenge accepted. Plus the MK2S just printed so darn good. Thankfully I was able to find all the original hardware from my very first MK2 and my hardened hob gear.

This build will be a live steam on my YouTube channel so stay tuned!!!!!!

Klipper Input Shaper

So one of the special features in Klipper that intrigues me is Input Shaper. If you’ve heard of S Curve acceleration in Marlin this is it’s much more powerful cousin.

To make it sound simple you can either print a specific test object at fast speeds and then use some math to calculate how much resonance your axis has and then input that value into Klipper or you can install an accelerometer to do the measuring for you.

This little ADXL345 gets wired from the Pi and then att...

Project 1: Klipper

Yuppers... learning yet another firmware. This time it's Klipper.

Why? Its the hot new thing and I have to see if it brings what it promises to the market.

Where? On my Taz6 and my stock Prusa MK3s+ because they both run 8 bit boards and this is supposed to make those boards better.

Really? Basically.

So what is Klipper? Besides going to their WEBSITE to me its an odd marriage of RRF and Marlin 2.0.

Stock Prusa MK3s+ Einsy Klipper Fix

I've been working like a madman to get a Klipper build to work correctly and at speed for about 2 days now. I have the firmware ready but there was a new hurdle... the Einsy USB is slow as heck.

To sum it up when you get an Einsy from Prusa, so basically any time you buy a MK3s, the USB serial is setup in a way that it handles USB to serial issues incorrectly by not being able to process the data load and throwing errors. Ever had issues with Octoprint and your prusa trying to print fas...

Laser Etched Extrusion!

Mail day came unexpectedly today since everything has been very delayed shipping wise and it happened to be my custom V slot extrusion masterfully laser etched by Taylor Goetz.

So beautiful. So so beautiful.

What kind of bear should I build with this???? Maybe it’s time for a klipper bear...

Klipper?!!!

Yuppers. I’m testing klipper. I set it up on the Taz 6 but for you crazy kids I just finished one for the stock MK3S!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll make some klipper videos but until then head over to the discord if you want a config to use for your own experimentation.

Voron 0 and Solidworks and new screens to test and Klipper and so much more.

I’ve literally buried myself in projects all at once and I haven’t kept up sharing them here so when I wake up I’m going to work on sharing some info on each so stay tuned!!

OctoFarm/OctoPrint vs Repetier

I’ve been using Repetier for a long while and it’s definitely made my life easier running multiple machines down here and as my printer army grows I decided to weigh in the options again and see just what I’m missing when I left the open source world of Octoprint.

I will say that so far OctoFarm was the most diffuse setup I’ve had to do for anything 3D printer related because I’m not good with Linux or command line stuff and then OctoFarm just leaves you having after you fini...

Tons of Nova testing

I’ve been running this hotend since day one of the Maurice build and so far I’ve found it’s weakness and it’s strength.

Weakness. Retractions. It needs less retraction like a Mosquito but unlike a mosquito being off slightly causes jamming. Lots of jamming. It struggles with lots of tiny retractions.

Replacing the gold thermal paste with boron nitride dropp...

3 main projects complete!

It’s been a rough time getting these 3 main projects finished and ready but they are done.

1. Finished the stock MK3s+ but it needs a lot of tuning which will begin ASAP.

2. The Lily pellet extruder is working amazingly and I’m learning how to work with a system that doesn’t have gears but an auger. A lot of information coming about the Lily.

3. My custom printer is fully rebuilt and functioning with improved air flow. I just need to design a c...

It’s working!!!!

So far so good in the land of pellet printing. It took a while to get it working and to figure out the feeder system but it works and I couldn’t be happier right now. A months work of pondering, CAD, and now building all coming together.

Once I have the entire printer assembled I’ll get some videos up and share how it works and such.

I just finished plowing 5 driveways after snowpocalypse 2021 and need a break before I settle in and start building printers. I hope by tonight...

It fits!!!!

All the hard work paid off and it fits perfectly. Now time to wire this up and have it working so I can play with pellets instead of filament.

Almost ready

I’ve been working every day in Solidworks to create a proper mount for the Lily pellet extruder. I actually nearly finished it once and then I realized I did it so badly, aka I took shortcuts, and couldn’t fix a design flaw without doing so much work it was just faster to start over.

I’ll be on discord later tonight back at it and finishing this up so I can hopefully start building the printer Sunday.

If you’re bored join me there and I’ll be streaming all the cad work...

The Wham Bam Mutant

Well. I’m not impressed by the quality of the product or how it was shipped. Let’s get that out right away and move on to productive and constructive things.

Positives:

  • Locks in without issue in any of the 3 included plates repeatedly.
  • Seems intuitive enough to work with.
  • Should be easy to develop hotends for the system with all the available mounting options.
  • Lots of good accessories.
  • The ptfe coupler is really reall...

A Prusa was born

Sure it doesn’t have all the same parts but it runs stock firmware and all the stock parts that I could print.

Definitely a painful build with one wrong Z motor stopping the first live stream and during this stream I found that the X axis rods were 3mm too long so I showed off my Dremel skills Live.

In the end I got the printer working, it’s perpendicular, everything seems sound, and most of all it works. Yes I said that twice but it’s nice when things work.

Update time!!!!!

  • I’m getting better at CAD
  • I’ll be live-streaming tomorrow because UPS has the final parts to finish my MK3S+ build.
  • Voron build will happen once I finish the MK3s build and the custom printer because I need to get more printers up and running.
  • Designing a new type of extruder.
  • Need ideas for cool printer names.
  • I badly need to organize the printer area.

I’ll be back with more goodies and updates ASAP. I have a shoo...

Who’s ready for a pellet extruder?

The Lily pellet extruder and tons of Printed Solid PLA pellets and colorant arrived and I just need to jump into CAD to make a mount so this beast can begin its life as a sustainable printing solution.

After I get this up and running my next goal will be grinding up my old prints and using waste as filament!!!!

So excited about this and I should have this operational before the weekend. Let’s go!

So close and so much learned...

Final parts and minor revisions are happening to this tank of a printer. Just waiting on a small revision to the Y motor holder and then all that’s left to print is the electronics case and the extruder mount.

This adventure has taught me so much about designing for 3D printing along with the obstacles that come up when you prototype and want things to fit perfectly but want to leave some room for errors.

Key awesome things:

  • 2GT belt design. After numerou...
