New corners for V slot to V slot work!

Boom!!! I’m waiting for a couple parts to arrive and I can finish this printer. I have to print the redone V to T slot parts and then I can finish my rebuild of my MK3 bear into a MK3s bear!

Linear Rail Update

I have the BOM written BUT... I was sad at the expense of the aluminum corner brackets. Thanks to Vecko we have the first test for printed corner brackets in both a V slot to V slot and V slot to T slot. I'll be printing a test set right now and make sure they work as advertised!

I'll report back tomorrow!!!

I built a prusa!

My buddy Dan bribed me with 3D printer parts so I’d help build his new MK3s. Printed in Aromic CF Nylon and upgraded with sexy things like the Vecko X axis, Adjustable Y axis, better Z axis it’s going to be a fun ride for sure.

This is my first prusa with the new Delta power supply. It’s really nice. Heavy and well made. What I didn’t like is all but 2 of the bearings were completely dry and not even anti rust oil applied.

The BTT002 has arrived

The long road from China to Illinois. The Biqu BTT002 is a 32 bit einsy replacement with removable drivers. Here we have the TMC2209 drivers which are basically my favorite besides the TMC5160’s.

This board is not a direct swap as it’s 32 but and would run stock marlin 2.0. From my understanding it already comes prepped with a firmware and I’ve been sent files for a car to hold this. I’ll take a look at it and print it soon.

Once I have some time to mess with this I’ll...

More progress with the linear rails.

Thanks again to mad cad man Vecko who whipped up a set of physical end stops so the printer will pass self test.

The MK3/s uses a technique of ramming the furthest points in order to test axis length and homing sensitivity during self test. Basically without these you’d not pass self test.

I’m printing up the latest Bear extruder and the new Z axis motor mount and Z top mount and then will finish this build so o can get to all the other projects.

The bane of CF material

Clogs.

When you get heavily packed CF material sometimes you’ll get patches or clumps of CF that just won’t extrude. I’ve had every brand I’ve used heavily have this happen. Mind you in all my use of Atomic I’ve had it happen once in 26kg. 3dxtech was 1 out of 5, colorfabb was 1 out 3. It happens.

From my talks with filament makers making CF material is difficult. You basically take the CF particles and extrude at 3mm and continue chipping it up and extrude it over and...

Upgrades!

I have a bunch of printer maintenance to do including upgrading my MK3 bear to a MK3s which means this little guy will come in handy.

I have a few MK3 Bondtech extruders but haven’t used them since I’d like to get everything up to current standards which means I may need a couple more of these upgrades. I snagged this one from Parts Built since everyone I normally order from was sold out but it’ll get me through this one rebuild.

My printing has slowed down a bit as I have...

More magic from Vecko!

I didn’t even ask but he’s designed rail stops so it passes self test. Gonna print these and give them a try ASAP. 🥰

It’s almost ready!

The magic cad skills of Vecko paid off. First test was a perfect fit and oh goodness is it smooth and has absolutely no play. None. Not a wiggle.

I’ll try and have this assembled and ready this week so stay tuned for that craziness.

Linear rail progress

Soooooo I was using the files from Olof who made the design for his Mk2s. Sadly the carriages are not the same and even though Stephen Armstrong redid the parts to fit the regular sized linear rail bearings the spacer wasn’t sized right.

In comes Vecko for the solid help in redoing everything and making it fit the stock LDO linear rails and the stock MK3 carriage.

After this print finishes I’m going to print the new design and test fit and make sure no other changes are need...

Who’s getting a Mini?

Just a heads up I did order one day one and as soon as the ordering window opened so hopefully I get a November unit to test and work some profile magic with but until then who else here got one???

Not all CF PETG are alike.

Top we have my all time favorite, a 9.5/10 material, Atomic CF PETG. Why do I like it so much?? It prints way better than regular Petg. Strings less, layering is beautiful, definition is still very high, parts are stronger, bridging is excellent, and are far less flexible than regular Petg. It’s the ultimate functional part material that isn’t CF Nylon in my books and you don’t need a special bed material or an enclosure to print well.

Below we have Filamentone CF PETG. I give th...

This is making me excited.

Ugh. My love hate of nylon but it looks so ready to print. Need to adjust my duet prusa a bit before I start but my Garolite sheet is ready.

These new spools btw. So sexy.

Testing some new CF PETG

I got a spool a few months back from Filament One and it’s their new CF PETG.

So far it’s printing really well but definitely a few adjustments were made over my other profiles. Mostly flow as this stuff prints fluffy due to its extremely high CF content. I’m down to 0.85 on flow aka extrusion multiplier to get the print looking sexy.

This has a much higher CF content closer to 3dxtech which makes a very good CF PETG. The downfall is that you have to nail your flow. If itâ...

Linear rail coming soon...

Thanks to Stephen Armstrong I have the files by Olof edited for MGN12H bearings.

I have to say after 2 months of no printing and getting work done it feels good to just boot up my prusa and get to work. Heck the atomic cf Petg was just sitting out in the open for the entire time.

Next up is gathering the rest of the parts. I was going to strip another prusa to make it a bear but I have almost everything to make a bear so I just ordered the rods, bearings, and Z motors to make it...

Rails on the purple bear!

Jason from LDO nailed it. I’m using Olof’s LDO linear rail mod and I’m upgrading one black bear and decided I couldn’t but black 2020 on the purple frame.

Couple weeks later and bingo here is the purple bear with its purple extrusions. That is going to look soooooo sexy.

Tomorrow I’m going to take a break from my normal Tuesday maker space days and get so...

The Duet Prusa Files

If you’re crazy like me then you’re looking for these files. I’ve saved the entire batch so you can look through them and see all the settings and what nots that make it work.

No filament sensor yet but that’ll be a winter project.

A new contender.

Filament One just launched a new nozzle to beat the ruby. They ar eat I’ll perfecting the lip as you can see but it won’t affect overal printing.

What they’ve done is instead of the harsh step in the ruby they’ve chamfered it like it is in a normal nozzle. Will be pushing 1kg of Filament One CF PETG through it ASAP.

What we learned.

I disassembled Aaron’s hotend on live stream and I learned a lot.

1. Based on general assembly guidelines of a stock e3dv6 the nozzle was between 0.40-0.45mm away from the heat block. 0.30 or less is more typical but nothing to be shocked about.

2. His extruder was built very well. Nothing wrong in assembly whatsoever.

3. After removing everything I’ve found the jam happens right above the prusa step on their custom heatbreak.

4. Where the step is th...

MK3s Jamming Hotend teardown!

Thank you to all you lovely Patrons I bought a jammed hotend from Aaron Oaks and will take it apart analyzing all the issues I see and trying to figure out why this keeps happening. Join the fun and say hello!

Going live tonight around 5-6pm Central

Yesterday I took a personal day and just hung out with the lady and had dinner with her and some friends. Went to bed early and slept in today.

Now that’s what I call refreshing and well needed.

I’ve cleaned up the live steam area and am ready to dismantle this hotend with the jam in. Just have to find my feeler gauges and a few other tools to help disassemble this properly.

Stay tuned for a fun one!

Update time!

Ugh, I'm always saying sorry and always trying to get caught up so I can share more and post more but I always fall behind. For that, I'm sorry.

I was going to live stream today BUT I can't soooo I'm going to stream tomorrow and it's going to be a fun one.

I finally got a full hotend from another user to look at and check to see why it's jamming. So it'll be an exploratory livestream with plenty of Q&A time. I'm also going to stream hopefully a second time this week and fin...

Something for me!

Finally got myself another Bear frame today. All3d makers for the win and the purple color is intense.

I have 2 stock frame MK3 printers left and I can either 1. Build a custom MK3 or 2. Rebuild one of the two still on stock frames.

I’m going to reprint a ton of CF Petg parts and get these running to hopefully continue printing even more CF Petg. Going to start getting a surplus of printed parts that way I can keep up with orders on these. It was difficult keeping lead times d...

Cool new things!

After fruitlessly trying to find a great linear bearing under $10 USD it's time to move another direction.

Sadly there just aren't any good bearings out there for the price I'm willing to call good. THK on stock rods was the best but at $12USD each now that's too much. Overall the prusa design is dated and linear rods and bearings are noisy and need a lot of work over time to give you the best prints possible.

Linear rail on the other hand come in far superior specs and overal...

It’s alive!

If you’ve missed it I’m in a local Maker Space and have spent the last few months donating all the parts and the time to teach those interested in building a 3D printer from scratch how to do just that.

I’d like you to meet Gurtrude. She’s a 450mm tall MK3s Bear with powerful motors and a 32bit brain.

This has been a difficult project with many many man hours donated but worth every bump in the road. Building a custom printer and fighting the small issues that arise and ...
