I've finally made a trailer!!!!

The closing shot in the trailer of the rat flying up into the air, is also the most recent shot I've completed. I thought it'd be a good one for the trailer (and the last good one for a little while), so I decided ages ago that I'd cut this together as soon as that shot was out of the way.

That's the issue with making films in completely chronological order- I can't make all the best shots first just to put them in the trailer, I have to wait until ...

Finger thinger

This is a shot I've been looking forward to making for a long time. There's no incredibly important reason for the cat to enter the scene like this, it's just something I must have thought of at one point and I said "I like that, that's going in somewhere".

The Underground

New month, new paper animation!!!

This one is based on this very old Pen Pal drawing I did, back before I started doing them as paper animations. I hadn't looked back at the old drawing until right now so it's a little different, but in any case I thought the concept would translate well to animation.

A new character, technically

This rat may look identical to the other rat- and it is! But it is also a second rat. The story now has two rats. Stay tuned for even more rats!

List of Vegetables*

Every vegetable* I can think of. In the film, the rat runs past this lineup of plants and ignores all of them, in pursuit of something even more delicious!

Donks OST: Honk Stomper

Here you go, an extension of the most obnoxious musical fragment in DONKS! This is one of the parts where people in the YouTube comments specifically requested a full track, but in the film, the music was designed to border on nauseating at this point- so I'm not sure if the full track other people were picturing was the same as the one I was picturing. a new addition to the gallery collection

Hey, here's some work on the film that isn't by me!

There is a scene in the film set in a gallery, which I finished work on ages ago, except the most prominent painting in it- one with eyeholes (the most important kind of painting in films), was just a placeholder scribble. Now the painting is swapped with one by Zoë!

I animated some snail bait. You know, the poison you tip on the ground outside on purpose, for wild animals to eat.
Looking at references for this, I learnt it also consistently comes in really ugly packaging. Feels weird putting bad graphic design in my movie on purpose, but hopefully I captured something!

Progress continues on the new film of course, because that's how films work, but also I've done another little paper animation of some guy blowing into a chimney.

I like this one, I think it might be my favourite from the last little while. So I hope you enjoy looking at it, and I'll put the original frames into envelopes and send them to Pen Pals today <3

So far a lot of the movie has been this rat running around, but they can also move in other ways. Here they are sliding down some glass!

I know in a recent shot, I portrayed the central building in Wall World as a windowless cube of bricks. Well now it has a sunlit greenhouse in it somewhere. In my head, the wide-shot of the building was a simplified abstraction and I can put what I want in it, but I am already anticipating the YouTube comments of the future arguing that this is a mistake. You are wrong, fictional commenter!

Rain Boots

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your support this past month (and also any other months)!!! I hope you're safe and well and had something nice to eat today.

Here's a paper animation of some echidnas- one of them is real intense and keeps puncturing holes in the clouds. Not with his echidna spikes though, with his cleats.

behold, the cube

Most of the film takes place inside the cube, but this is the first time you actually see a wide shot of the building. Ok that's enough fresh air, everybody back in the cube

Just a quick look at a background I did! In video format, so you can see the air conditioner fans spinning I guess, but also to demonstrate how these "3D" backgrounds are entirely lies and look completely janked from any other angle

There is a cat drinking wine in the movie. Real cats should of course not do this! But movie cats? Movie cats can, and should, enjoy the occasional tipple

What are the rats up to today?

Why, just tumbling through the void in a melodramatic fashion! Having a good old squirm in the darkness.

Partially for a shot transition, and partially to show their inner rat turmoil. My main characters aren't usually that emotive, maybe because they don't often have mouths, and it's all done with eye acting. But these guys are ALL MOUTH, so I'm enjoying making them really expressive and over-the-top. Please look forward to more theatrical rats!

Art galleries are a funny thing to draw because they mostly consist of other pictures. The Photographer

Here comes a new character for the rat movie- The Photographer!

Actually more like "a" photographer, because there's multiple of this guy.

There isn't an immediate use for this walk cycle since they'll just be kind of standing around when they first appear in the film- but I really wanted to show the tripod and the human legs walking together at some point. Is it a single 5-legged creature, or is it a man and a tripod in some kind of "pantomime horse" situation?? Yo...

Impractical eye configuration

How do you look through a secret peep hole when your eyes are on top of your head?

I could've just bent their nose down, and making them face this way actually confuses some stuff I wanted to do in an upcoming shot- but then I thought of this and I liked the gag too much, so guess they're backwards for the whole next scene now

The 3D pipe void

It was only a matter of time, in my film about the dark space inside the walls, that I eventually made a background that was effectively the Windows '3D Pipes' screensaver.

The rat isn't actually in between the pipes like that in the movie, I just saw the gif had a rat shaped hole (a triangle).

Modern building codes dictate that every home has at least ONE rat cavity fitted with a rat-sized peep hole, so they can keep tabs on you. If your home was built after 1989, you've probably got one of these somewhere!!!
