Chapter 18
Mira kept her guard up, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
If Hamrin was right, then they didn’t have a powerful battlemage camping right where they slept. Somebody who very well might kill them in their sleep or at least make a spirited go of it before trying to get away.
If he was truly helpless, maybe he would be easier to trust. Mira would leave it up to Hal, it was his settlement after all, but she found herself believing him.
Hamrin was either an ...

Hey everybody, James here! Some of you may or may not have noticed the role shifts recently. I'll do my best to explain. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll make sure to answer to the best of my ability. Without further ado:
After a lot of discussion and thought on the matter, it was decided that in order to better prepare for the future, it would be in everybody’s best interest to standardize the Patron Tiers and cull a lot of extra tiers that just weren’t doing anything.

Chapter 17
“He’s pushing himself too hard,” Noth told Mira. The girl folded her arms around herself and looked back over her shoulder at Hal in the cot.
Mira shook her head. This is something else. She had felt the snap in the air as if something was severed and a moment later Hal went rigid as a bowstring and collapsed.
She had to admit, though he clearly didn’t plan it, he had achieved the most dramatic effect possible. A small part of her gave ...

Just a quick word! I'd like to apologize for being sluggish on the updates, I can firmly say that everything's squared away to the point that you'll be able to get consistent timely releases every weekend from here on out!
Without further ado, onto the chapter:
Chapter 16
Ever since the attack on Hal, the Kinslayers had been on edge. Hirash, still adopting that ridiculous persona was even more on edge. Something was wrong with him, but Tristal didn’t dare weav...

Chapter 15
Besal flung himself to the side of the chamber as the oily tentacle cracked the stone floor where he had been.
Ralst shouted encouragement, “This is your time to shine, Khaeros!” Though she did make sure to keep her eyes closed.
“Easy for you to say!” Besal shouted back. “You want to come up here and do this?”
The drow smirked at him but didn’t move a muscle from the lower chamber to come help him.
Not that she could.
Eldritch mon...

This month I have been absolutely slammed with work and as a result way slower than I should have been on keeping Beastborne updated. There'll be another chapter release tomorrow for any curious, and starting in July I'll be doing updates on the weekends for Beastborne going forward. Might start the second week, we'll see!

I get asked about audiobooks probably more times than I can count, normally there isn't much to say other than "they're in the works" or "i'm w...

Chapter 14
Orrittam made a delicate cough into his tanned hand. “If I may be so bold, Hal…?” When Hal nodded at him, he continued, “I believe you could do with some rest. It takes a great deal to spar and train with one dragon, but two? I have never heard its like before.”
“Getting tired of me already, huh?” Hal said with a chuckle.
“Against my better judgement… I must agree that you are an interesting student,” Naitese muttered, just loud enou...

Chapter 13
Over the next few days of training, Naitese was… well, not nice, but certainly more patient and understanding.
“You rely too much on Goldflame,” Naitese said, crouched next to his recumbent form a few days later.
They had been training almost non-stop since the Whitegold Oath was forged. Hal had to admit, Naitese and Orrittam were excellent teachers. So much so, partway through Hal began to earn training EXP. Not as much as battling monsters by a ...

Chapter 12
Hal sailed through the air, pain blinding him for a moment. As so often seemed the case, Hal reacted purely on instinct. He Spliced eldritch essence and… did something with Goldflame to vent a massive amount of blood-red eldritch essence from his back.
Acting like a counterbalance, the burst of essence halted his backward momentum. A flaring burst of Noble Gold Dragonfire erupted to his right. Orrittam rose to his full height, maw still smoldering. “Remember the r...

Chapter 11
Hal groaned as he struggled to the surface of consciousness.
This is almost nostalgic, isn’t it, Besal? Constantly passing out, or getting knocked out, it reminds me of the… the….
The first few days he was on Aldim.
And now, with the silence screaming in his head, Hal realized just how much he was reminded of that time.
Alone, scared, bewildered, and utterly defenseless.
At least one or two of those had changed, but being alone w...

Chapter 10
“Ho there! Good one, lad!” Orrittam cheered as a golden streaking comet of Dragonfire scorched the side of his face.
Hal, breathing hard and cycling Dragonfire for all he was worth, struggled to keep his knees from knocking together.
This was nothing like using Beast Magic or, really, any magic at all. He had to hold onto the feeling of hope to drive him on, to guide the Dragonfire along the pathways within his soul until he could extract it.

Besal roared and lunged for Luda… but she was gone.
The room was… what was the opposite of pitch black? Supernova white? Besal struggled for a metaphor that fit and gave up.
Shaking his head, Besal lowered himself into a crouch and looked around for any sign of attack, though the brightness hurt his eyes.
“Please excuse the discomfort,” Luda’s voice said as if over a static-filled radio. “Sending you here is no small task and there is a bit of… an adjustment to...

Hal jerked awake, a scream bursting from his throat. Pain lanced through his chest.
Motion caught his eye, and he lashed out with everything he had at hand, his mind still wrapped in the muzzy half-formed land of sleep. A spiraling flame shot out of his extended, thrusting arm. It spat toward the dark shape, which roared as the flames splashed against it, illuminating its scaly hide.
He was certain somebody was trying to kill him. But as realization dawned, he remembered....

From here on out all books that either myself or Sohmer write, will be a part of the Shardrune Universe. Beastborne Chronicles and Pyresouls Apocalypse are already (and have been since their inception) part of the Shardrune Universe.
It's a flexible way that both Sohmer and I can share ideas, worlds, core mechanics, and stories across a singular universe.
Shardrunes themselves are an as-yet-unreleased concept but is nothing new to us behind the scenes. You'll see the first h...

Chapter 6
“Why are you doing this?” Besal asked, releasing his clawed grasp on the dying creature. “What use am I to you?”
“Ah-ah!” Ralst wagged a finger at him. “You agreed to do what I said without questions, remember?”
With a frown, Besal looked at the body between them.
Several puncture marks in its thick hide showed where Ralst had dealt swift near-death.
Besal had to admit, she knew what she was doing. He had seen Hal fight, felt ...

Chapter 5
“Surely you jest, Hal,” Orrittam said, folding his tanned arms over a broad chest. He looked powerful and steadfast despite his human form. His golden eyes, however, were worried. Thoughtful.
“Look at him!” Naitese pointed an accusing finger. “He gains unprecedented power over us and then seeks to gain even more while calling it a ‘compromise’! Tell me you are not going to entertain this madness, Father.”
Hal tamped down his anger, which seemed ha...

Chapter 4
Ashera watched as Hal left his yurt and struck out toward the Manatree Glade. She thought of following him, but seeing the squat koblin shadowing him made her think twice. Besides, she had other things to be about this morning.
There was not much time until the Shiverglades was impossible to traverse. She needed a few things before the first snows came. And while she didn’t know much about this place, she knew enough that they would be here soon.
Whate...

Chapter 3
Death. Every religion, every people, no matter the world, seemed to have a different idea about what happens once a person dies. But what if that person doesn’t have a soul of their own?
That was the question the creature known as Besal often found himself asking himself in the quiet moments between disasters. Back when he was bound to Hal, he thought that they would be inseparable. He was not his own self, but a part of Hal. Birthed, perhaps, by caustic Outsider mea...

Chapter 2
A dream came to Hal that night, and though he struggled to remember the whole thing in the morning, one scene stood out clearly. It had started like most of his dreams often did ever since childhood: as a nightmare. But whether it was the Kindred Dream’s doing or not, it soon changed into something more.
He normally wouldn’t have thought much of a nightmare where two dragons, suspiciously alike to Orrittam and Naitese, seared his bones with twin jets of Dragonfire....

I included this in the revamped About section of the Patreon, but I figured it'd be a good idea to touch base here and let everybody know how Updates will be working from here on out.
Originally, Beastborne chapters were done in the typical serialization fashion. Which means that every chapter was, relatively speaking, fairly short. They were meant to get out quickly and keep the story updates from taking too long.
This hampers the writing process in a myriad of ways, least of all...
