Book 3: Chapter 6

It's been a while, the last chapter was longer than I would have liked. I'm going to try to keep chapters shorter than that in the future. On another note, I just finished the first draft of Book 3 and it's looking like it will be the same word count as the other two +-5k or so.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.

Book 3: Chapter 2

Felix was finally free from the integration and it’s lack of information and he fully intended on capitalizing on it. It took him about a half hour to fly to the library using the portal spires which wasn’t ideal but it wasn’t too bad. Flying through the night, Felix first realized that the length of the days were exactly the same as back on Trenus and Earth, 24 hours, which was highly suspect. He also got to experience the city at night and it was a wonderous sight.

The night sky...

Quick Update

I made a mistake in the excel sheet I use to calculate Felix's stats. The mistake only applies to harvested stats so it only affects the very last chapter of Book 2 so far. I have corrected the mistake in the chapter and the full version of the book. For those of you that already read it, sorry. Here is his corrected status screen at the end of book 2.

Also note three lines of dialogue between...

NOTE: This chapter was edited on July 21 2023. The only change is to the status screens and three lines of dialogue were removed referring to them because I had been calculating them incorrectly.

CotTW Books 1, 2 & 3

This is the entirety of books 1, 2 & 3 in ebook and raw (markdown) formats. It is the same as the culmination of the posts, nothing is changed (or nothing should be changed). Let me know if there are any issues with the files I generated, they should be fine but it's always possible I miss something.

For those of you unaware, I changed my release schedule from 2500 words every weekday as a chapter into 2500 every weekday but not necessarily on the weekdays in particular. They are no...

Book 2: Chapter 86

With everything he had to do in the city itself complete, it was time for Felix to set off on his journey north, towards The Lodge. His planned route was The Lodge, then east to Snowvale and Trelas on the same continent. If any of the anchors had degraded or the portals failed for some other reason, he would minimize how far he had to fly.

After that he would open a portal to Orselle then head east to Coastwatch and finally Sprouts. They weren’t sure about Lav’Gur just yet as their ...

Book 2: Chapter 85

Felix channeled mana into his pocket home marble and pressed it against the wall of the town hall then stepped through. He illuminated the area with a simple light spell and held himself to the ground with a force spell. He also quickly grabbed the Demitium chunk that had floated itself into the air and brought it back to the ground. He didn’t have straps or anything to hold it down so he just left it and decided he would figure it out later.

He mentally made some notes on how he want...

Book 2: Chapter 84

AUTHORS NOTE: You may notice this chapter is longer than usual, almost 3 standard chapters in length. This is the start of my changing my release schedule. I realized (far later than I should have) that restricting myself to about 2500 words per chapter has resulted in some weird chapter breaks.

Instead of that, I want to have chapters that are more self contained in the sense that there isn't a cliff hanger or break in the action. As much as I tried to minimize that previously, it w...

Book 2: Chapter 83

With everything he had wanted to do in the auction done, Felix initiated the teleport back to Trenus. He appeared back in the city council building and immediately touched his pocket home marble to a wall. He walked in and illuminated the area with a spell then pulled Nova out of his robes and lightly tossed them.

Nova floated to the ground slowly as if they weighed almost nothing and as if they were a real cat, landed on their feet. Felix began dumping all of the random materials he ha...

The next item caught all of them by surprise. The pedestal rose to reveal, not a scale model of a building again, but rather another item. Atop the pedestal sat a vicious looking great sword crafted from the bone of some creature. It seemed to be a single piece of bone with leather wrapped around the bottom to form a handle. The blade was only sharpened on one side and the natural jagged nature of the bone gave the weapon a brutal look.

Book 2: Chapter 81

The first item up for auction in the second phase appeared to be an ornate suit of plate armor. It looked like it was made of an almost white metal and had large pauldrons that almost looked like shields themselves.

Between the hundreds of interlocking metal plates, Felix saw hints of a dark chain mail that helped hold everything together. Lastly, the helmet was a completely seamless piece of metal that had no holes for sight or breathing but did have a massive golden mane that poured d...

Book 2: Chapter 80

The wait time before the first phase of the auction passed quickly for everyone except Felix ending when the screens for the initial phase appeared before them. Felix didn’t really have anything to sell. He had thought about selling some of the clutter but ultimately decided he would rather keep it, didn’t care about it’s meager value, or would rather sell it in the capital city in just a few months. So, instead of posting items, Felix spent the first few minutes setting up a filter. View Post

Book 2: Chapter 79

As always when he was teleported, Felix felt a sudden lurch in the aether then looked around and instantly found himself in a large room where part of the floor was sloped and led to a curved wall. On the other end of the room, at the top of the slope, was a large table resting on a flat floor with no chairs around it. Instead of chairs, there was simply ample space around the table for people to walk by without it ever really getting cramped. Along the sloped floor, on either side of the roo...

Book 2: Chapter 78

Felix placed his pocket home marble against a random wall in the city hall building and channeled mana into it. Just as it had every time before, a portal into complete darkness appeared and Felix stepped through.

He quickly illuminated the environment with a spell and ascended his tower to the lab floor where he settled in for the time being. He set up a couple light spells that should last for a few days and placed them against the walls. They were a weird combination of enchantments,...

Benjamin opened the door and walked inside then Felix followed suit, closing the door behind him. Inside, the house opened up into a large living room with the kitchen beyond that. It wasn’t overly interesting or diverse, but it was strongly reminiscent of homes from earth, like the one Felix had grown up in.

Unlike the houses Felix had explored in the world event that used complex materials and had thematic designs making them feel more like theme park attractions than homes, Alan’...

Sensing Felix growing more serious Noah nodded and sat at the main table in the center of the room. Felix gestured for Benjamin and Amelia to sit as well. Will and Alan were already seated next to each-other and were showering Nova with attention who was happily basking in it on the table. They quickly sensed something was wrong though and both went silent, though they continued to pet Nova.

Felix waited a moment or two so he could build his resolve and for the tension to build just a l...

The next thing he wanted to do was sit down and read through his new class. He figured there was a chance his soul harvesting abilities would be upgraded by the class. Book 2: Chapter 74

Felix immediately felt aches and pains all over from the bruising, cuts and incisions. He took that as a good sign though, that he could actually feel his entire body, it meant his nervous system was somewhat intact once more.

Opening his eyes, Felix saw the blank ceiling above him. He slowly sat up and looked around. To his left, he saw Erolan’s body slumped on the ground against the table. Looking down, he saw his own naked corpse and released a breath he only just realized he had b...

Book 2: Chapter 73

Reminded of his previous worries, Felix went back to slowly forming mana batteries then stowing them in his inventory. Overall, they were forming far slower than he knew he was capable of in part because of the mana around him and in part because he wasn’t entirely focused on the task at hand.

As he formed the batteries, Felix juggled orbs of mana around his head, shifting their attunements, energy levels and state. He spun them around, made them collide and dance. It was something to...

The last thing Felix needed to do was to figure out which piece he was destroying. He was inclined to just throw two of them in at once and be safe but Grim assured him one would be enough. Felix pushed his consciousness into his soul space and shattered the seal that he was almost certain contained the soul ring. The clear crystal that used to hold the seal opened to reveal a clear band with a ribbon of white and a thread of gold dancing around within.
