“Well that was a lot easier than expected,’ Reivyn said. “A bit anticlimactic, to be honest.”
“We don’t always have to go through life or death to get what we need,” Refix answered. “If the resources are available, we might as well get them where and when we can. It’s a higher priority to handle Kefira’s situation as soon as possible than to go adventuring for the treasures ourselves.”
“That’s true, and with that taken care of, we can search...

Being able to turn off Divine Sense and not have to worry about anything plus a very comfortable bed led to the best sleep Reivyn had experienced in as long as he could remember. Even the bed in the house he shared with his parents in the Imperial Palace didn’t lead to such restful slumber. He awoke fully refreshed and ready to go.
After stretching and taking care of his ablutions, Reivyn met with the other members of his Party for a quick breakfast in the common room of th...

The sun was still up in the sky by the time Reivyn and his group spotted the outpost in the distance. It was placed on the highest hills around, giving it the best view of the surrounding area. There was evidence the distant forest once extended closer to the outpost, but it had been deforested for quite a distance away. Reivyn understood the strategy of keeping clear lines of sight, and he could only guess the rather extreme distance was a necessity for the level of threats one could expect ...

“Why. Are. These. Guys. So. Tough?!” Teilon panted as he slashed the throat of another goblin. The strike to the throat wasn’t itself enough to kill it, but it had suffered enough damage already that it became a fatal strike regardless.
The goblin collapsed to the ground with numerous wounds across its body. Teilon and Kimberly both stood over it, catching their breath. All around the Party, dead goblins in various states lay. Despite all of them being covered in wounds, ...

Reivyn felt the dense Mana all around him as he trudged along through the open field. The grass was weighed down by its own weight so it only reached up to his hips. The wind was clearly visible in snaking lines among the greenery. Walking through the thick grass and thick Mana gave the impression that it was more difficult to move than it actually was. It was like having the expectation of wading through shallow water only to find that one’s feet moved effortlessly forward.
Moving fu...

Camping in the Wilderness wasn’t exactly the ideal place to exercise and train one’s Skills. Even though Reivyn and the others trained their bodies to operate while being tired, there was a difference between fighting for your life until tired and fighting for your life already tired. That kind of intense exercise would have to wait until they were in a safer location.
That didn’t mean they didn’t do anything. They did some light sparring and Reivyn and Refix supervised...

Switching up the lineup for who was responsible for combat didn’t immediately change anything. For the most part, there weren’t large concentrations of monsters roaming around or even high level monsters that required cooperation to take them down just hanging out in the Wilderness. The Wilderness was huge. It was a ring completely separating the Upper Regions from the Lower Regions. While there were objectively a lot of monsters and beasts in the Wilderness, there wasn’t a dense popula...

Reivyn expected the road to end abruptly. The way the personal accounts described their journeys only mentioned the road ending a short distance within the Wilderness. He didn’t know exactly what to expect, but he thought it would just end at some point.
That’s not exactly what happened. He noticed the first signs with his Divine Sense, but as they continued deeper into the Wilderness it even became observable with the naked eyes. Reivyn knew to keep an eye out for it already, so he...

Reivyn tightened the straps to his pack, folding the loose ends over and over before tying them in place. Everywhere on his body that there could be a loose strap of any kind had been shortened and secured to reduce bouncing and noise.
There was no need to have metal clasps jangling all over the place while walking. That would just ensure he was making more noise for things to notice his passing. His Divine Sense was to a sufficient Level now where its range was much greater than any ti...

Reivyn was absorbed by the contents of the journal. Not every entry was exciting or terrifying, though the author, Relthinor, did a fairly good job of leaving out mundane topics. Sure, those were in there, but it was usually to add a bit of context more than to just document everything the man did.
There was very little personal information provided in the journal. Reivyn guessed Relthinor assumed anyone who read it would either know who he was or have the ability to find out. There mig...

Several maids and manservants carried armfuls of scrolls and books into the residence. One after the other found an open space on the tables and counters to deposit their loads. Reivyn watched as the mountain of material continued to grow.
The number of documents quickly surpassed anything reasonable and just continued to grow. Kefira hid a small chuckle behind her hand at his expression. Nobody else in the room, including his parents, seemed particularly surprised or dismayed at the re...

The Grand Magus sat in silent contemplation after examining Kefira. He tapped his lips with his finger as he was lost in thought. Gennet couldn’t wait any longer after only a few moments and spoke up.
“So?” He asked. “What’s going on?”
The Grand Magus seemed surprised that anyone else was in the room after being addressed. He shook his head and shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.
“Everything is as expected, for the most part,” he answered. “We just miscalc...

Reivyn was particularly pleased with himself. He knew that he had come up with something special and was in a good mood over it all week. Kefira knew all about his plans and she couldn’t help but giggle to herself whenever she thought about it as well, and Kayzor was happy with the entire arrangement as well. The mercenary captains noticed the lift in Reivyn’s mood, and know what was coming, they were actually sweating and bearing down double on their assignments. They had all witnessed t...

Reivyn got a good night’s sleep. Even though he had apparently been in a coma for nearly a week, his body was still hale and hearty. His mind was taxed from the vision and stress it had been through, though he had no recollection of the events that caused his mind to break, necessitating the System to step in and fix it directly.
He had never seen a situation where the System took direct action other than the very few times it had run into apparently novel situations. Like the time he...

Kefira watched the rise and fall of Reivyn’s chest as she sat next to him, holding his hand. He had been unconscious for several days after their Party had been forcibly expelled from the Dungeon after he had killed the Dragon.
None of them understood why they had been automatically teleported out of the Dungeon at first. They had all witnessed the domination of Reivyn over the Dragon. It had been a completely different experience than was typically seen when the Hero of the scenario ...

There was no thought or contemplation on his predicament. He was simply a disembodied consciousness within a sea of nothing.
Slowly, awareness returned to him.

Reivyn stood in place as the battlefield seemed to come to life. As soon as everyone was in their proper position, the scenario kicked off as if they hadn’t just been standing around like statues. The man Reivyn pegged as the commander was the one to address him.

“So are you excited?” Kefira asked, perring up at Reivyn.
They were standing in front of the portal leading to the Dungeon. Reivyn had spent the past week going over the status reports with the other officers. They had been redacted to keep Reivyn from spoiling any information about the actual Dungeon. He wanted the full experience like everyone else.
All the reports only contained the performance information on the mercenaries as well as recommended training. Each of the offi...

“Well, that was really something, else, wasn’t it?” Teilon said.
Teilon found himself standing near the entrance where they had entered the portal earlier. They had been displaced slightly so as not to interfere with any other Parties exiting the Dungeon. The System seemed almost sentient at times, keeping up with the little things.
“I… really don’t know what to say,” Gulley admitted.
“You and me, both,” Teilon answered. “Well, that’s not entirely true....

The Dragon didn’t take the provocation well. It roared once more, but since it hadn’t had time to build up its power, there wasn’t the Magical aspect infused into it. It was just an angry response from the Dragon.
The Hero didn’t back down, either. He flew through the air and once more collided with the Dragon, battering it more than slashing it with his greatsword. The collision created a shockwave, but the Dragon was barely repulsed from his position in the sky.
It took ...

Gulley stood in front of the entrance to the Dungeon with his squad lined up behind him. The Dungeon runs were going to take all morning just to get all of the squads through the entrance, so they were patiently waiting their turn. He had been only a little surprised to find that Teilon was the one who had been assigned to inspect their performance inside the Dungeon.
They weren’t in an official formation, so Gulley let his gaze roam. He looked over the edge of the cliff to the city s...

Reivyn leaned back in his chair, sighing to the air. Detailed reports of each individual mercenary laid scattered on his desk. He pinched the bridge of his nose as he let himself decompress. He had spent several days going over all of the information available on every single mercenary.

Reivyn stood next to Kefira in the same hall they had held her ball in almost a year ago. It was a subtle difference, but many of the guests in attendance made note that Reivyn was standing next to Kefira. Previously, Reivyn had been positioned such that it could be construed that he was just nearby. There was no confusing the two with their proximity this evening.
“So glad of you to join us,” Kefira smiled and held her hand out to another young nobleman.

The sunlight glinted off the armor of the arranged mercenaries as they marched in neat rows through the open drill field. The recruits had finished their training, and the veterans who stayed on had dispersed through the much larger organization to make up the backbone of the newly formed Battalion.
Not all of the veterans were elevated to a leadership role. There just weren’t enough of them to go around, and not all of the previous leaders had decided to leave after the one tour. Eve...

The rest of the meeting was pretty boring for Reivyn. It wasn’t the mind-numbing boredom that he experienced listening to his mother and Silfa in their discussion of his upcoming wedding, but he was likewise unable to add further input. He and Kayzor had a lot to coordinate, but that would have to wait for their own time.
The generals and higher-ups involved in the military already had all of the reports that he and the other commanders had provided. Reivyn was there if they needed so...
