After making and editing this video I wondered how they could ship a donut maker that was so bad.  It looks similar to others on the market from the outside but the inside was different.  That made me wonder if this one was incorrectly assembled when it arrived.  So after pulling the centre out and unscrewing the end.   I reassembled it, pushed the plunger down, flipped the end piece upside down and screwed it on the outside of the gadget - now it is a shape that look...

Merry Christmas!  Its time for gingerbread.  I had left over dough from making this creation so today Jedd made a gingerbread minecraft pickaxe, sword and bucket of axolotl.   My creation is not minecraft related.

Do you remember this time last year when everyone seemed to be glad to see that back of 2020, hoping that the new year would move us on to a brighter covid-free future.  Then, for us in Australia, we basically repeated the lockdowns in 2021 and despite...

Be careful what you believe.  Information from studies taken out of context can misinform viewers.  This is not disinformation, where people deliberately tell you the wrong thing.  This is misinformation, where the person thinks what they are telling you is true, but they are misinformed or don't understand.

FOR EXAMPLE:  Currently there are a lot of videos on tiktok saying Manuka honey prevents tooth decay so to eat a teaspoon of Manuka honey every ...

Can you calculate this chilli conversion?

When I am researching for an episode there is always a lot more interesting information that I find that I can't put in the video or it would be too long.  Occasionally there are also times when I can't find the exact information I need, or I am not 100% sure so i leave it out.  That was the case with the details of the Scoville scale.

According to most online sources the Scoville Scale shows the amount of times dried chilli (or some say and extract of dried chilli) is diluted...

Do you love spicy hot food or hate it?

I don't mind a little spice but this got way too hot for me.  In this episode - What makes food spicy?  How to soothe the burn? Scoville scale explained. Has anyone ever died from eating spicy food?  And plenty of laughs as you watch us test out some spicy hot chocolate.

In other news - we are out of lockdown!  I can not describe how good it is to have my youngest at school, shops open and people over to visit.   ...

Hello my wonderful patrons.

My mini kitchen has been on display to a museum.  It was only supposed to be gone for a couple of months, but with Melbourne lockdowns they set everything up and then had to close to the public.  The only great news about knowing that we will be in lockdown for at least another month is that I got my mini kitchen back so that I could film.   It will be back with them in plenty of time for the exhibition.

For this video I neede...

I purchased a "new" old cookbook.  Let's test out some strange recipes of the past together.

As I write this there are protests going on around Melbourne about the never ending lockdowns.  There was also a small earthquake - only minor damage at the epicentre.  By the time it got to us it shook the house, rattled the doors and provided some excitement in the day.  The storm damage has only just been repaired so we were grateful that it was not big enough to cause any...

How do you think you would go?  I wish each and every one of you could have sat at my table and had a go at mixing ingredients and trying to match the flavour of coke.  Do you think you'd get it really close?  Exact?  Or completely off?  Watch the video to see what we added and how it went.

Microphone Poll Results

15% of you ticked I like them all / any of them are fine

The microphones are (drumroll):

1 - is actually the two microphones below, one in each ear.

Chosen by 5% as the best

This is the mistake I made on the latest debunking video.  I recorded with a different microphone to L and R channel, intending to choose one.  But I accidentally left it as both (lockdown homeschooling mak...

Which microphone do you prefer?

Rather than guessing which microphone set up is the best I thought I'd just ask you.

These were recorded at the same time, with sound absorbing panels set up around the room.  No changes have been made in editing apart from making them the same volume.

After the poll I will edit this post to let you know what the microphones are (I don't want to bias your answers by telling you now).

Are these gadgets clever or would you never use them?  Does silicone burn?  Can you you speak like an Aussie?

In the Reardon household - we are in lockdown and homeschooling again.  For Melbourne this is sadly becoming normal life.   And I still find it strangely tiring.  Constant planning, cancelling, rebooking and then cancelling again.  Any helpful hints for lockdown lethargy are greatly appreciated.

This week we are cooking from an 1810 cookbook.  And looking at how the marshmallow recipe was developed and changed into the confectionary that we eat today.

If you're living in Sydney - my condolences on your extended lockdown.  If you're in England, what exciting news to have restrictions lifting this week.  How's covid and restrictions tracking where you live?

Hello wonderful people I hope you're having a fantastic week.  In this episode we are debunking more and more fake videos from tiktok, facebook and youtube.  If there are any lawyers among you please do answer the question posed in the video for me, I'd love to know.

If you live in Australia you will know that it is a bit of a chaotic time to try and travel with more covid lockdowns and border closures.  We have had to cancel all of our airfares, hire cars and accomodatio...

Storms

It was pitch black and crazy noisy as the wind ripped through on Wednesday night, knocking over trees and solid structures.  We've counted more than 20 big trees down just on our little street.

We had no power or internet, not even internet on the phone - because the phone towers also had no power.   Tricky for homeschooling in lockdown and for getting hold of the insurance company.

Thankfully we are all safe, our roof is now patched up with tarps.  Many...

We're back in stage 4 lockdown here in Melbourne again, as I know are so many of you around the world.  I am really hoping that vaccines bring some end to this soon.  Homeschooling while working does not suit me, nor does not being able to plan ahead.

We have multiple book signings / meet and greets planned around Australia and airfares and venues already booked, let's hope restrictions lift in time.  There will be QR code check-in at al...

The advance copy (digital print) of my book πŸ“˜ arrived so I can finally see it bound.  Proper copies from the printers will be ready soon and on their way to book stores! 2021-05-20 09:30:59 +0000 UTC View Post

Can you believe that it has been 10 years of How To Cook That!  In that time Dave has cooked plenty of dinners but never baked a dessert (why would he?).  So in this episode I will put his baking skills and my videos to the test.  And we will reminisce with a quick complication of some of my favourite videos from the last 10 years, have you seen them all?

No matter what I post to youtube the overwhelming request seems to be for MORE DEBUNKING.  Perhaps that is due to the seemingly unsurmountable tide of fake or unsafe food videos.  One thing is for sure, if you watch enough debunking videos you'll know to question the source of everything and be picky about who you follow.

Also this week we have a competition for people who have pre-ordered the cookbook, entry form can be found here: 2021-04-08 09:31:00 +0000 UTC View Post

There is so much waste that it seems impossible that our little efforts can make any impact.  But in reality if everyone decreases there waste even a little bit it all adds up.

After making this video I also invested in an under-gound compost bin, they apparently don't smell and don't need turning - I'll let you know how that goes later if you're interested.

What things do you do (apart from recycling) that makes the most difference to how much is in your waste bin?
