Does 'How To Cook That' show up on your YouTube subscription list?

One of my patrons sent me the above image showing that they are subscribed, and have been for some time.  But 'How To Cook That' is not listed under their subscriptions and neither are some of the other channels that they are subscribed to.

YouTube has checked the feature (on a new account subscribing to only one channel) and said it is working correctly.   So now I am cur...

Do you have an air fryer? Should you get one?  Are they the same as a convection oven? Are they a waste of money? Can you bake macarons in a an air fryer?  Watch this episode to find out all those answers and more.

And yes, I am really holding an air fryer in the thumbnail photo - it was a bit of a heavy balancing act - but thankfully I didn't drop it.

I presenteth to thee a 600 year old medieval scroll from which I shall venture to baketh three sweet treats.

For all who are in varying forms of lock-down here are some recipes from long ago that don't use many ingredients.  You will be in need of a mortar and pestle though (my least favourite kitchen gadget).

Happy New Year!  Let's hope that 2021 brings and end to covid and that we'll all be more thankful for the things we took for granted before lockdowns.

Here is a simple little recipe for a delicious cherry dessert.  Cherries are in season here at the moment and if you ever get the chance to travel to the Yarra Valley in Victoria Australia I'd definitely recommend visiting Cherry Hill Orchards and the Chocolate Factory of course.

Street Talk and a Whimsical Gingerbread House

It has been such a complicated year so I thought a simple, whimsical gingerbread house that everyone can make at home was just what we needed.  Dave & I also took to the streets, well walking paths, to ask people lots of Christmassy questions.

I've been making a gingerbread house for Christmas for the last 15 years.   Do you have any Christmas traditions in your family?

Another fun thing to d...

So excited to finally get this episode to you.  It has been in progress, filming time lapses and doing research for months.  Editing and putting it altogether took a very long time as I am sure you can imagine.    I would love to hear your thoughts on GMO (see end of episode).

Stay safe, eat some bananas and make it a great week!

No food colouring or lustre dusts, just shiny, colour changing chocolate!

My eldest is sitting his year 12 exams this week and next week.  What an unexpectedly weird final year of school (covid-homeschool) it has been.  Restrictions are starting to ease where we live so hopefully they will be able to get together for an end of year dinner at some stage later in the future.

I hope you're all safe and doing well this week.

Would you pay 99 pounds for a soft serve ice cream?  How about buying 5 of them, one for everyone in the family?  Me neither!  I am making them instead.  The store in London says they take 4 hours to make so I have timed my attempt to see if that is true.

Great news in Melbourne - kids are back at school, the shops are open again and so too are cafes and restaurants for outside dining and a small number inside.  We are progressing back towards some resemblance o...

There are some sad and sorry looking lock-down birthday cakes being posted on instagram at the moment.  So here's a few creative and simple ways to fix the mess.  If you are baking at home you can skip the step of recreating a fail and go straight to simple but impressive looking cakes.

My kids get to go back to school in a week and half (yay).  For James, my eldest it will be his last week of school before his final exams and then he is totally done.  There i...

Cake Rescue #3. More and more people are baking and making birthday cakes while in isolation so I though another cake rescue might be needed.

Melbourne, where we live, is now in stage 4 lock down.  Which means we can't leave the house except for one person to get food / medical.  There is an 8pm curfew.  Kids are all homeschooling.  All other retail and services are shut - so I am not quite sure if I'll be able to get everything that I had planned for filming my next...

Covid distraction - debunking some more fake videos for you!

I highly recommend taking some time out for yourself.  Making some time, even if it is small, to do something refreshing is really important for getting through this season.  Things I like to do for this purpose are: listen to music, listen to a podcast, do anything creative, go for a walk, do an online gym class, listen to a Ted talk or a Craig Groeschel message.  There are so many options.  What are some of your best de-stress activities?

Finally I have made a video explaining where I get the mini eggs from.   While I was at the markets I also got a giant ostrich egg to see what they taste like.

I hope you are all well.  It seems that all of Australia is doing great with cover, except for Melbourne - the state I live in.  Restrictions were due to ease a bit but instead they have tightened.  On a plus note though the shops are all re-stocked and kids are at school, well they start holidays ...

Roses Up Date

Just to let you know the roses are still alive!!  They are slowly starting to die off, one rose at a time.  It is cold here in Melbourne so they have lasted way longer than I expected.  Once they all die I'll put the daily photos together into a time lapse for you.

Welcome to another week of lockdown!  How are you all handling it?  Praying that you are safe.  There seem to be a few different emotions running around depending on your personal situation... fear, anxiety, stress or plain boredom.  I think I am falling into the stress/stretched category at the moment as today I , like many parents I embark on the adventure of homeschooling three kids while working from home.  Our school has decided not to do video-conferencing and i...

Bad news is always stressful - it's OK, and even a good thing to have some distractions to take your mind off it for a while.  Hopefully this video does just that.

The pandemic is way beyond anything that any of us can fix or control, but we can support each other through the tough times.  As we adjust to new routines, new financial situations and health fears - know that our prayers are with you and your families for safety and peace through this storm.

One thing is for sure, baking desserts took a long time 200 years ago.  The ingredients we just reach for they had to prepare themselves.  I am very grateful for the advances that food scientists have made over the years in making improvements for us.
