July 2016: The Monthly Monster

This month, the two versions of our monster are fairly different. For Dungeon World, we have sci-fi VAT MERCHANTS , creating zombies for you in their tanks full of fluid. For Labyrinth Lord, we have a dungeon section full of secret doors, strange loot, and threats like the VAT ZOMBIES, along with a sizeable selection of other zombie types you may enjoy.

June 2016 Monthly Monster

Here is both versions (DW and LL) of the Golden Goliath, an ancient forgotten god controlled by the leader of a chaos cult bent on usurping the divine.

May 2016: The Monthly Monster

The Monthly Monster for May is The Amalgam, a creature that tears holes in reality to connect different planes of existence. This is one of those monsters that feels like it could be the start of a whole new theme, so maybe we will end up doing more Planescape-style fantasy monsters.

Both Dungeon World and Labyrinth Lord stats are provided in the same document this time.

I have been making monsters for a new game I'm working on, The Nightmares Underneath. It's old school style dungeoncrawling but with dungeons that are extraplanar incursions made of nightmares (and with a vague setting that's more Middle Eastern/swords and sandals than Euro-American fantasy forestland).

February 2016 Monthly Monster

This month's monster is a rules-agnostic space station used for mining. Or it should be used for mining, but the management is running dangerous, illegal, and highly unethical experiments and the miners have their own criminal organization going on.

Dungeon Suggestions

Okay, so: with A Market in the Woods now finished (see the last post), the giant book full of dungeons for all our dungeon-y monsters is back on the front burner.

Now, I realize this isn't the most interactive of patreons, BUT: if you have suggestions for stuff you want to see in future Monthly Monster dungeons, post them here. Maybe you have stuff going on in one of your campaigns that you'd like to see us expand upon, or there are themes you want in your game that we haven't touched on y...

DW Monster Manual Number 3!

Our third Dungeon World book is finished. A Market in the Woods collects another dozen entries from amongst our many monthly monsters, and adds to them new details about that elusive and dangerous market. This book is super-heavy on the NPCs, with a few outdoor monster cultures (no dungeons in this one!), and it's just as intricately illustrated as the last book, maybe even more so.

January 2016: Monthly Monster

The nuns of the Bone Goddess maybe look skeletons, but they are no mindless automatons. Covered in ghostly flame, they have retained their intellects, all the better to worship their morbid deity.

I did the Labyrinth Lord version in the standard style for now, but I'm going to revise it as soon as I get the map of their monastery finished.

Unicorn Burial Ground Redux

Here is another one for the Labyrinth Lord series. I reworked the dungeon of the rhinocorn homunculi (the Monthly Monster for September 2014) to fit on a digest-sized 2-page spread (or 1 letter-sized page). Mostly, I'm just trying to increase the usability and reference value of these maps as I colourize them.
