Comic update!

Hey!

Here's the latest on the comic I was working on previously(maybe a few months back), I wanted to pick it back up and start knocking out some panels. All of this was done in CSP, I'm attempting to imply as much detail as I can so I don't end up overworking everything, but it's difficult to not get lost in the weeds! Once I'm through the bulk of the heavy detail pages this should speed up a bit.

Hope you like it!

Darkstalkers - Rikuo steps

Hey!

Been a minute! Hope you're well! Here's a quick step by step of Rikuo of Darkstalkers for a larger illustration I've been messing with here and there. This has mostly been practice in refining my approach using Krita as my main rendering program, I really enjoy the chrome brushes and am continually impressed by the speed at which I'm able to render forms using them. It's been very rewarding to keep at this! I am still using CSP and Photoshop but the bulk of the work in Krita for th...

Voltron Discord Character Concept Challenge!

Hey!

It's time - the November Character Concept Challenge begins! This time around I want you to create a themed team of 3 characters that come together into one singular character. This is a total of 4 concepts - these can be loose ideas, if the challenge is too daunting to create 4 final images then please feel free to show a basic design of how they look/come together in the final form.

We'll be looking for originality in design and creativity in how they fit together.  View Post

Blackbirds - Progress & Steps

Hey!

Been awhile! Here's something I've been working on for quite some time, all the pieces are starting to really come together, but it's been a pretty massive undertaking so far. This is the next cover for the TTRPG Blackbirds - I'm juggling quite a bit of characters/scenes in this one so it's been a matter of really working everything up together to hopefully make it all work as a giant painting - once everything is complete I'll be able to do the final balancing/lighting/separation ...

Power Rangers x Street Fighter - Hasbro client work - steps!

Hey!

Hope you're well! Here's something I worked up for Hasbro not too long ago for the Hasbro Pulse release of the Power Rangers x Street Fighter figures - the idea with these was to reference official Street Fighter artwork in terms of posing and whatnot and instead use the Power Rangers fighting game designs in their place.

It was a relatively straight forward job but I had a lot of fun trying to match the look of the official artwork from Capcom, really pushed to get down the...

Skullkin - High res, Steps!

Hey!

Hope you're well! To keep with the Halloween theme I wanted to work up somethin fun, enjoyed this one but definitely had issues figuring out the composition(if you watched the stream for this one you likely saw me struggling!). I spent the majority of my time rendering this one in Krita in grayscale and finished it in Photoshop.

The back and forth between Krita and Photoshop is too good, I love the chrome brushes - the more I use them the better feel I get for them, it'...

Grayscale to Color - Digital Oil Approach

Hey!

Here's the latest video tutorial covering my approach starting from a black and white sketch done in Krita and finishing the oil look in Photoshop. If you'd like to check out the previous video where I show a digital pencil look, 2022-10-10 18:00:06 +0000 UTC View Post

Serpentor - process & interior packaging art

Hey!

Today I wanted to share with you some process behind the Serpentor box art I created for Hasbro Pulse! This one was a lot of fun to work on, honestly one of my favorite jobs ever in terms of the freedom and execution, I was given a ton of funny/cool reference from oldschool G.I. Joe comics as well as tons of stills from the show. The artwork here was meant to follow the Dr. Mindbender artwork I created some time back for my first Hasbro Pulse figure illustration. They share a simil...

Halloween - high res, print, layered PSD & steps

Hey!

Happy October! I'm going to do my best to create a series of Halloween themed images this month, hopefully I can tap a bit into the classic look of all these monsters and make some cool stuff. This one was done mostly in Krita and rendered up and colored in Photoshop(for the most part). I'm experimenting with painting more in Krita using the Chrome brushes I've mentioned in the past.

Bio Suit - steps & layered PSD

Hey!

Hope you're well! I'm back from vacation, decided to get right into working in Krita again - this one here was a quick thing meant to explore a bit of the back and forth process I've been enjoying going from Krita to Photoshop to Krita to Photoshop - rendering in Krita has been really fun, the energy you're able to capture with some ease is unlike CSP and Photoshop. Those Chrome brushes in Krita are wild!

I'll be recording the final voiceover for the skull oil video tonight f...

Gobbins - some iPad CSP stuff!

Hey!

Hope you’re well! I’m currently on a trip with the family but wanted to share something I was playing with on my iPad while away. Tried doing a quick loose approach to the pencil/watercolor look I’ve been using in CSP - I don’t have a super great grasp on my iPad work situation, it’s definitely not as fluid for me but it does have a nice sketchbook feel to it. What I enjoy most is working at a much smaller scale than my cintiq at home, I find it’s easier to think ...

MISC Artwork! Sketches + GI JOE packaging

Hey!

Thought it might be fun to show a couple loose things I've had resting on my external hd for a little while - most of these are just loose thoughts or the beginnings of comps/ideas that I then abandoned for something else along the way. I really enjoy just messing around the playing with character shapes and lighting, it's fun to keep things loose and see what you can find for a process or approach to texturing an image.

The other part of this is the Serpentor box art that ...

Venom - Marvel Cover - step by step & PSDs

Hey!

Hope you're well! This one was kinda interesting, I did this cover a few months back, right about where I started using Krita - I submitted the initial sketch that was done in photoshop, I wasn't thrilled about it so I decided to change up my approach to hopefully get some nice energy goin. When it comes to Marvel covers I feel pretty safe doing experiments in the approach, they're generally pretty lax when it comes to style/render quality and all that so worst case scenario it wou...

Hangin out - layered PSD included!

Hey!

Hope you're well! Here's somethin I've been playing with a bit here and there - basically I painted up 4 random characters to try different types of executions with the rendering process - I'm pretty happy with most of em, I think a mixture of render in Krita followed by further grayscale render in Photoshop with mixer brushes and then a pass changing brightness to opacity in CSP and then some more rendering in Photoshop with color fills beneath the grayscale renders.

Sorry...

Red Earth - Leo - Steps & PSD

Hey!

Hope you're well! This is a quick thing really, played around in Krita pushing the rendering a bit more than usual and finished it up in Photoshop - I recorded the whole process, you should've gotten a link to that post as well as this one!

The video is a real time video process, figured it could be more helpful to watch me go through the entire thing like that rather than sped up.

Monster Head tutorial + Brushes

Hey!

Hope you're well! I wanted to share with you a bit of what I've learned for my current approach - this one feels pretty tailored toward doing a more stylized/textured realism that I like, it has some of the softness of a more realistic type of art but with a bit of tooth that you get from traditional - I'm pretty happy with how it rides the line between both.

Also, brushes are attached below! ABR is for Photoshop, the SUT brushes are for CSP.

Grayscale to Color - Digital Pencil Approach

Watch the video here!

Hey!

Hope you're well! Today's video tutorial covers my digital pencil approach to rendering value and quickly applying color in order to take a black and white "pencil" drawing and turn them into a color pencil style render that can then go in a variety of directions depending on your approach. The beginning of the video is a very rough breakdown of the...

Art! Process and a Brush

Hey!

Hope you're well! I've been playing with a straight digital pencil approach, applying color to the pencils and then coloring after the fact with some rendering in a gauche style on top. I'm pretty happy with it so far, I think it's looking pretty nice rendering wise. The pencil brush is attached below, it's a CSP brush, try it out!

Once I have the approach down a bit better I'll do a video!

Also, wanted to share where I'm at on the current Blackbirds ttrpg cover illustration I've been working on - currently drawing everything out in CSP - once it's all worked in I'll jump over into the painting process via Photoshop.

A few of the characters drawn here have been recorded so I'll be sharing that as well!

Monster Head & FF7 progress

Hey!

Hope you're well! Here's a couple things I've been working on - been doing a lot of mixtures of programs in order to get a better look into my work - the Monster here is a mix of Clip Studio & Photoshop, Clip for the drawing and basic painting and Photoshop for adding a bit more realism to the render, softening things up and getting more nuanced in the lighting. I think my next painting will be - Krita for thumbnailing and sketching, Clip for basic rendering and tighter lights ...
