This page took a bit longer. I wanted to draw the Sealion from another perspective. The holycopter was the most time consuming part, especially the front view.

I dealt with my migraine quite a lot these days, so work was not that fruitful as I originally planned for this weekend. Kinda frustrating.

Page 12 will introduce a new faction: The church. An air force unit has been sent out to eliminate the giant chaos beast. However Chaudine already managed to kill the alpha invador before the missiles of the fighter could hit the monster unbeknownst to the pilot. A redraw of one of my oldest monster creations. In an early version of the prologue chapter which take place in a dungeon deep underground the miner troll was supposed to be the first chaos creature that the protagonists would have encountered.

I 'm using a lot of stroke and crosshatching brushes lately. It makes it easy to convey dynamic movements and keep the overall style simple, I guess.

Two pages to go until we return to our intricate situation at the bridge again. Damn headache doesn't want to go away... makes it hard to focus on my work, it kinda pisses me off.
So this is the page which features a new style which is closer to the sepia style and makes the composition look more drafty. It is particularly not so time consuming like the general colored pages, so I want to give this style a try for the next few pages.

Aww I'm so sorry for the late update.
The latest corona development had some impact on my private organization. Not in a direct way fortunately, but since several institutions has limited fixing hours now due to the emergency situation it was harder for me to clear up my paper work the last weeks.
I also had some important client briefings over the last days, all reasons which led to infrequent work on my manga pages. But I really do my best to find back to my groove the next days...

The result of my new drawing style looks better than I expected~!
I dealt with some challenges during the drawing and finalization process of this page though. The order of reactions depicted in parallel with the structure of the dialogue turned out a bit complicated.

This speedpainting is almost 4 times faster than the actual time it took to draw this portrait. I am quite satisfied with the result. Just have a look at it and you will realize that the second outlining step took most of the time which is generally the case for my work.

Whew, page 4 is finally done. I decided to experiment a bit longer. My goal was a new style which makes it easier to color and outline within a short time span. Ironically it took a lot of time to figure it out after several try and errors. But I think I reached a point where I found the brushes and the coloring style that would fit my workflow best.
I value consistency so I will most likely tweak my previous color pages a little.
I plan to cover the details in a color tutor...

This is an illustration which I started to draw last year around the time shortly before Halloween and I'm about to finish it.
Gruntilda, the lady riding on the broom (some of you may know her as the antagonist from the N64 game "Banjo Kazooie") had a very saturated color palette. It was a bit tough to find a good match of subtle background colors. But I am satisfied with the progress so far.
Some little adjustments still need to be made before I can wrap this up.

I was a Game Boy kid and played the Mario and Wario games almost every day. There weren't many female villains in videogames, so I still remember how Captain Syrup left a strong impression on me although she had not actually much screentime.
Well, you know me... I really like to draw under-represented characters (especially many female videogame and anime characters from my childhood) and Captain Syrup won't be the last one from that era.

Yeah fanservice heavy pages incoming.
Usually I have problems with giving a scene the right contrast when I work with monochrome tones. However with colors it feels somehow a bit easier to adjust the nuanced contrast for the darker and brighter areas which helps to add depth to the overall composition.
We get a glimpse of Chaudine's parents. On the next page I will reveal more about them. ;)
