Sorry for the delay, but here is our Halloween episode!
The Eye is such an underrated horror classic. Made in Hong Kong during the J-horror craze, it may share the visual style of Japanese horror films, but underneath, there is a lot of interesting Chinese concepts.
Let's take a look!

Well, it has been a while, hasn't it?
For the most part, I'm fully settled in Montreal, now. While there are some other on going projects I'll be working on, the channel should go back to normal.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
- The Bruce Lee trilogy is perhaps the most well received series of videos I did on this channel, a testament to the charm of this amazing man.
- There is one interesting discussion, however: Is Bruce Lee's battle cries actually dubbed by himself? Ther...

Hi, everyone. I just moved back to Montreal and am still in the process of unpacking. It looks like I won't have enough time to finish up our next episode on time. I'll get it done as soon as possible, but realistically, I'll go up Saturday instead of Thursday.
Sorry for the delays. Things should go back to normal by next week.

So, I'm currently moving. Without my work station, there really isn't much to update. So this is just going to be a quick one. Hope you don't mind! Everything will be back to normal in two weeks.
Meantime, enjoy my mediocre Instagram photos.
Did you enjoy our two-part Bruce Lee retrospective? Feedbacks are so far so good! It takes a truly inspirational man to unite so many different people together. Reading your stories on how you first learn about Bruce Lee is ey...

Bruce Lee Part 2 is almost done! But here's the real news: There will be a Part 3! But it won't come out immediately.
About the Channel:
- Bruce Lee Part 1 has been manually copyright claimed, meaning someone from the film distribution company actually come into my video and flagged video for copyright violation.
- I now have contact to copyright lawyers, and he agrees that this is a blatant abuse of YouTube's content ID system. The video is currently in dispute. Let'...

Bruce Lee.
Just the name gives people chills. How can't you not be excited? Often remembered as an amazing martial artist. But for me, he'll always be an amazing filmmaker.
In this two part retrospective, we are going to talk about all the movies starring Bruce Lee, and see how he first changed Hong Kong, and later, changed the world.

Sorry for being so late, I'm still working on the episode as we speak. But still, I'll have to lock the credit before everyone falls asleep and the episode goes live tomorrow.
Anyway, there is one swear made in this episode, as an in joke for long time fans. Since we are talking about Bruce Lee, there is also some talk about Chinese patriotism and racism in Hollywood. Although no real discussion is made, just allusions.
Still, if you'd like to remain anonymous for this episode, or...

In some why, I consider our episode on In the Mood for Love to be the end of a season. At least, that's how it felt. Don't worry, I'm not quitting just yet. New episode is already in the work.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
- Last episode, while well received, didn't gain much traction. I think many of you have noticed that YouTube is once again experimenting with a new recommendation algorithm, with more emphasis put on news and such. Video essay and other educational channel took a nos...

So this is a test run for the smaller bite size update thingy. Let me know how you feel.
Currently editing this month's bonus video about BlacKkKlansman. Part of the video discusses how people can read any meaning they wish from a film. As many film scholars would say, authorial intent doesn't matter.
One example I used is the cult classic They Live. As you can see from this tweet... yeah.
Knowing this, I hope my bonus video sheds some light on why BlacKkKlansman is...

So, I finally get to talk about my favourite film.
Making this video is quite an experience. Most of the talking points are based on my film study essay in University, so it's not that big of a project.
At the same time, it's hard to do this film justice. No matter how hard I try, there's only so much I can talk about this film. And there's so much more I want to talk about. Maybe someday I'll do an encore and talk about the costume, the sound, the music or the acting.

So I've been thinking of making patron rewards a bit more interesting, and I want to know your opinions.
PROPOSE CHANGE NO. 1:
Outside of the weekly update, I'm thinking I'll start posting small tidbits of behind the scene infos every few days: Pics of editing process, parts of scripts, what's new in the next episode, work in progress thumbnails, etc.
In the past, I avoided spoiling the topic for upcoming episodes. But I honestly don't think many peo...

Alright, I'm back. That was an exhausting month, but things so go back to normal this September, updates should be regular, and episode teases should go up on the channel community tabs as usual.
- Reminder that Episode 21 is coming up this Thursday. Patrons who pledge 10$ per month can take a look at the script right now.
- It's also the first episode on this channel that is sponsored. I guess I'm a real YouTuber, now.
- Script for bonus video is done...

Since I won't be in the office for another week or so, there's not gonna be much of an update. I'll be kicking back and working on my long term project for now.
You'll get to know this long term project eventually.

- Last episode got some good response from everyone. A lot of people shared their font memories with me, and a lot of recommendations dug up my long for...

Hey everyone. I'm currently in San Francisco recharging my sanity meter.
This is one of two pre-recorded episodes I made for you. It's less analytical than our usual episodes, but I'm still proud of it. A bit of a different direction, I hope you'll enjoy.
And if you want more analytical stuff, don't worry. Watch to the end of the episode and you'll know what I mean.

As mentioned in the weekly update post, I'll be going away for 2 weeks. That's why I have to pre-record the next 2 episodes. As such, I'll have to lock the credit for episode 21 this early. Since there won't be much time for me to edit afterward.
This episode is focus solely on one single Hong Kong movie. It's an aesthetic analysis.
I'll keep the film under wrap for now, but you'll get to know it soon, as it is teased in the next episode, coming out this Thursday. There is no swea...

I'm thinking of changing up the weekly updates to include more interesting info than... a work report. Something more interesting. I don't know what I can add, though. Any ideas?
Anyway, here is the update:
- As said before, I'm trying to build a backlog of content so I can go on a trip in a week or so. As we speak, I'm finishing up the editing for episode 20 and will start scripting for episode 21 soon.
- While I will be finishing episode 20 soon, it'l...

Backlog content building continues, which is why I'm locking episode 20's credit so early.

Episode 20 is in a different format, in which I recommend a large amount of movies at once. There is no analysis in this episode and everything is...

Took my forever to cover a Hindi movie but here we are, one of the best and certainly the most epic and badass movie in any cinema: Sholay.
In this episode, we learn to appreciate the masala film genre. One thing I didn't mention, is that I have a sneaking suspicion that, the masala genre has much further reaching impact that one may think.
Before this film leads masala into the mainstream, genre in Hong Kong cinema is fairly well split. Kung Fu movies are badass Comedy movies are...

I have been working for two days from morning to night straight now. I need a poutine.
In case you don't know, poutine is a Canadian dish that looks awful but tastes like pure calories.
- Editing for episode 19 just came to an end. While the subject at hand is pretty simple, I'm pretty proud of the editing, even if I don't have enough time to do everything.
- The narration, however, suffers a bit. I'm a bit overworked lately, and you can hear my voice cracking up multip...

We are approaching the end of July, and Ip Man 4 has yet to be released. That is not worrying at all.
I don't think I've properly celebrated this, but a few weeks ago, our channel broke the 30K subscriber mark. We have more subscribers than some of the channels I followed for years. That is insane. Thank you for all the support! I'll be sure to continue improve the channel content.

Yes, you read that right, Superman!
While length wise, this is not the longest video I've done, in terms of production time, however, this one takes the cake. Rewatching Ip Man series and researching the history of Superman is quite a set of tasks. I hope the final product justifies the time spend.
This episode also sees some aesthetic change, mainly the graphic design elements. I'll continue to improve them gradually. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let...

While the editing for the next episode continues, I'll be locking the credit names early. The main reason being that I'm keeping track of everyone's name through Patreon's internal benefits tracker, which I have to keep things on a regular schedule for it to function properly.

Wow, what is this new black and red design? That's right, the entire Accented Cinema brand got a bit of a style update, Facebook, Twitter, Patreon and the channel page itself got a bit of an update. The color theme is now black and red, bolder and sleeker.
The YouTube channel has been changing slowly, and by now, new video thumbnails don't use that old white on red banner design any more. As most thumbnails trends to dark backgrounds, I find this new design a bit more a...
