First Impressions of Hamster & Gretel

I wrote a long ass commentary on this show before it came out but I also recorded an actual review to go along with it. The latter just happened to be the first part I edited in full. Trying to get the whole thing up for tomorrow but I wanted to y'all to get something early. Title and description is for the full video.

I definitely underscored the negatives, but I could see it becoming a casual watch. Its comedic pacing is kinda appealing, quite a bit stronger than I thought than it would be. These were mainly bad pilots that probably would've been just mid regular episodes.

A 2023 Project

I've been chipping away at planning this big project for the past few months. I'm 90% sure it's part of the reason why I've been slower to complete other stuff and I think y'all deserve to know about it.

Earlier in the year, I dropped this commentary dapping up Phineas and Ferb and its achievements. I've alluded to it in a few updates but in the process of preparing that video, my view on the show has shifted significantly. Conceptually, it feels a lot more approachable than it did before. I think I've always had it in me to dig deeper into the show but there wasn't much of an avenue for me to do that on a smaller scale that hadn't already been tackled elsewhere. I did a couple weeks of research and crunching numbers and I gained some insights into how I could revisit it. I think I'm ready to tackle the show in a bigger capacity.

Inspired by the worldwide launch of the show in 2008, I'm planning on instituting an event simply known as Phineas and Ferb-ruary, or more commonly, just Ferb-ruary. The month is being kicked off with a multihour exploration of the series, the spinoffs, the movies, and a few other audio-visual projects. It's being staged as something closer to a big ranking, but if it's possible, I want to try and give every episode a mini review of sorts. Insights, trivia tidbits, animation notes, etc

In step with the original marathon, the rest of the month will feature a new Phineas and Ferb video every single day. Mostly shorter pieces of content but length may vary, especially with the Saturday drops. I'll lay out a rough breakdown for the month below. I have a couple more pieces of related content planned mainly for the first half of the year. Depending on how well things go, I'm prepared to include additional content. Here's what on the docket so far:

The Ranking - 1/28 days
Other general PaF media - 4/28 days [Sat.]

Week 1 (4th) - P&F Cameos and Marathons (and other Appearances)

Week 2 (11th) - P&F Games

Week 3 (18th) - *P&F Dubs

Week 4 (25th) - P&F Tie Ins and Promotions

Extended reviews of individual episodes - 12/28 days [Tues.,Thurs.,Sun.]

(being determined as I watch; up to half of em may be specials)

Fresh theories/analyses/history jargon - 11/28 days [Mon., Wed., Fri.]

  Mon. - character analysis (4)

  Wed. - theories (3)

  Fri. - history (4)

I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the series, have about 15-20% of the episodes written up and I'm deep into mapping out other content. Sometime soon, I want to approach some guests to come on and tackle an episode they're interested in. Mostly others that I know are big fans of the show but I might throw in a few other folks as well.

I have this project broken up into five phases so far:

Phase 1 (Feb. 1, 2023) - The Ranking

Phase 2 (Feb. 1st-28th) - Ferb-uary 2023

Phase 3 (Mar. 1st) - A Deep Dive into Act Your Age

Phase 4 (June 9th) - A Serendipitous Five Hour Character Study [Phineas]

Phase 5 (Feb. 29th, 2024) - A Surreptitious Two and a Half Hour Character Study [Ferb]

(^Phase 5 might be determined by popular demand but who knows, we'll see^)

The gap in between phases 3 and 4 is one I expect to be filled with other content. I have two non PaF related videos I want to drop in April, but otherwise there's room for more items. I have a few more ideas I want to map out but it's hinging on how well the first legs of the project are received. After phase 4, it's way more likely I'll have time to indulge in other content.

I want to deliver as much other stuff as I can before Christmas. I understand not everyone would be down for this much content on one show and I want to be sensitive to that. I'm banking as many scripts as I can finish before the month is out to try and assess what I can do. There's some bigger stuff I want to complete before year's end but I gotta see where everything's at. Ironically, the video that's closest to being done is going to talk about Hamster & Gretel, the newest Disney cartoon that takes place within the same universe. So far, so good. I made a last minute discovery for the Clarence doc that I have to write around so it definitely set my progress back a bit. I'm moving in a couple weeks so it's been a challenge planning to work around it. That's about it for now. You'll hear more the farther this comes along, but this is the long and short of it for now. Thanks for sticking around.

Schedule Updates :)))

I keep setting deadlines for anniversary dates but they ain’t doing shit for me lately😂

Here’s some new dates for videos I’ve announced previously:

Sick Days: next month

Clarence: end of July or sum idk

Phintastic Finales: August 17th

Doc McStuffins: August 26th

Sofia: November 18th

Not sure what to do with everything else; if it's December and I didn't move them back, they might just be tabled.

Updates are gonna move to every other week until I get into some kind of groove. Early access drops will stay the same. Thanks for sticking around.

Weekly Update (6/26)

Had some of these done for a while, but I figured it's still worth sharing.

- Wrapped up research for Clarence. Combed through a bunch of content for it. I'll be polishing the final outline the next few days and jumping straight into writing afterward.

- Edited that second interview for it btw I'll probably drop later next month.

- Nearly finished Future-Worm and Penn Zero. Been trying to flesh out notes but I'm coming up short. They're both really fascinating shows but I don't know if I wanna cover them. Not sure when I'll finish scripting if I do but I have plenty of time for it.

- Started binging Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. I'm halfway through and it's been a blast to watch. Still have to finish Season 2 but I already have a lot of praise to throw at it. Seems like more people have been nostalgic for it lately so I hope it hits. This turned into a collab halfway through watching lol

- I keep getting asked about the music in the videos, so I started backtracking and building track listings. If I remember, I'll stick them on the new uploads, but as far as the older ones go, I'll stick with the most popular joints to start.

- Accidentally drafted like, 70 Phineas and Ferb videos lol

So in late March, I stumbled across this fan made musical and it lowkey changed my outlook on the entire franchise. I teased them a bit in that April video - which people seemed to really dig - but I definitely had more to say about them and the show. So, I wanted to try and jumpstart a longform project for the show's (second) 15th anniversary. It'll be comprised of several big videos about different parts of the show. Don't know how long it'll run but it'll be launching officially on Feb. 1, 2023. I'll be dropping notes and outlines throughout the summer, but any hard production previews won't be around until mid-late Fall.

I've also had a collab talking about some of the specials in the works for a while, so that'll be fun. Set to drop Aug. 17th of this year.

That's it for now. That last highlight has been stealing my attention so if I haven't got much to say generally, I likely will be able to talk about that in some capacity.

EARLY ACCESS: The Primordial Paradox of BILLY DILLEY

I'm currently playing Whack-A-Mole with the Content ID system. There's like 11 second clips in there but it only has a problem with the music I used lol
So, here's the first version I uploaded. If I can get it up tonight, I will. The background scroll actually doubled the render time...

The thumbnail for this one is gonna be sick lol

NEW VIDEO: CHIP 'N' DALE Rescue Rangers (2022) Review

This movie hit me harder than I expected so I figured I'll throw something quick out there. By Youtube movie review standards, I'm already late to the party lol

EARLY ACCESS: Navigating the Netflix Animation Purge

Quick video. It's a rough edit but I think the commentary's important.

I'll probably cook up a follow up at some point. Depends on how things swing.

Goes public twelve hours from the time of this post.

NEW VIDEO: The Bruno Tumblr Sexyman Character Analysis

I'm finally free.

Had something planned for next week, but some recent events have held my interest so I'll probably whip up a brief commentary. The one I originally planned might drop the week after next.

NEW VIDEO: Bounty Hamster Series Review

Just something smaller while I plug away at bigger projects. Didn't wanna label this 'early access' because it's probably going up within a couple of hours. No thumbnail yet but hey, the credits at the end are updated.

Early Access: How PHINEAS AND FERB Kickstarted the TV Animation Renaissance

Yooooo I finally have a new video ready
I got frustrated with my progress so I dipped until I had something to talk about.

Here it is lol

I thought about this one as a writing exercise. Figuring out how to convey the narrative set with limited dialogue and such. The whole thing is unscripted. It was triggered by a bad Twitter take but for me, it was kind of a warm up. Something to change things up a bit, y'know?

I'm gonna upload this one at nine o clock or at noon. Haven't decided yet. Had to put this up for y'all first. Gonna schedule this one before I hit the hay and swap the link. Might change the title and thumbnail, not sure yet.

Next month's credits

Hey, it's that time again. If y'all paid for weekly updates, you probably have a sense of what I've been doing lately. Got a fair amount of work done this week but I've been mainly on the same glut of projects. So, I figured I'd just give y'all this instead of a repetitive update.  Let me know if y'all want anything changed. Next week, I'll try and have some thumbnails ready to show off. Peace.

My Outline for 2022

Hey there, how's it going?

I typically relegate these sorts of updates to certain tiers but I figured whoever cared enough to bankroll my endeavors should know what I'm doing. This is a rough schedule I set up for the year; titles that are italicized were chronologically determined to be a good time to drop them. The hyperlinked titles are ones I already started to write or take notes for. since I typically end up taking January's off, the release cycle spans from mid-late February to mid-late December. Don't know if that'll change in the future, but likely not. I had a lot of observations and notes about the past year that I wanted to squeeze into an update video sometime next month.

Part of why I tend to keep my long term plans under wraps is because my slate tends to change on a dime. There's a lot that happens in about a year and for a variety of reasons, there's always a few ideas that get added and subtracted. As a general rule of thumb. I expect roughly half of those videos to not be produced by their specified date, whether they're pushed back, shelved for the year or capped entirely. 20 or so videos doesn't seem like a whole lot, but it's not uncommon to see that estimate balloon due to topical content and other stuff I wanted to do in the moment. Whatever I decide to do, y'all will be the first to know.

I have a few small goals for the year; I discovered I ended up having a streak of doubling my sub count year over year, so I'd like to keep that up. If possible, I want to release a video that'll be the most watched on the channel. Hitting 50k on a new upload would probably do the trick. I also want to do a bit more narrative content and exploratory video essays; I'm in the process of forming a more established visual aesthetic for the channel, which is slow but I hope to put more of myself into my work. Otherwise, I'd just be tying up loose ends and finishing off older projects I can feasibly do this year. Not a hard and fast objective, but never hurts to dap up a few more Youtube folk, right?

That's about it. Let me know if y'all had any questions, comments, concerns, etc
Here's to a better New Year!

A Small Peek into the Future

Hey, welcome to 2022! Hopefully, today was at least marginally better than the previous year. I'm going to be on break from uploads until mid-late February, but I'll likely be going ham on updates here, starting with this one. I felt it was a little unfair the final video of 2021 got dropped on a dime, so I decided to put something special together.

The audio is a 70 minute interview conducted with Simon Panrucker, the composer of Clarence. It's raw audio, minimally cleaned up for timing and such. It was a pretty fun discussion, one that you'll be hearing bits and pieces of in my upcoming Clarence deep dive, slated for late June. Towards the end of this month, I'll release a rough content schedule  for the year and talk about where we're going from here.

Whether you're a new or old Patron, thanks for supporting the channel!

Early Access: No Seriously, What's With Andy??

Yo, sorry I dropped off the update train for a minute. I hunkered down for a while trying to finish whatever I have left for the year. If everything goes well, I think my next real video will be published by Friday, which is what I'm releasing tonight. This is a final draft of my next major analysis. I need to add the intro, outro and tweak a few things; otherwise, this is what you'll be seeing publicly soon enough. It's 95% of the way there, but I felt obligated to give y'all a peek at it. If we're still on track for a Friday release, that should give y'all close to 48 hours to see this cut. If things go even better, I'm aiming to drop that ranking video on Christmas Eve. It's edging on two hours so fingers crossed. Anyway, I'm excited to get this project out and I hope you enjoy it too!

Early Access: Everything You Need to Know About XAVIER RIDDLE and the Secret Museum

Finally finished the biggest section of the PBS Kids ranking project. I wanted to put something out this month so I wanted to release this bit as a separate review. From the time of this post, there'll be a 12 hour window y'all can watch before it premieres. Presumably, when the full thing is done, I'll have at least a full day to share it with y'all before it goes lives. Enjoy!

Preview of the next video

This is a rough cut of a chunk I already edited for the next video; not sure if it'll drop tomorrow or Saturday, but it's not anything super big. That music is just a temp track and I'm still playing with which clips to use.

Some Future Plans...

Hey there! I wanted to leave a shortlist of projects for any patron that comes through. I tend to switch up what I'm doing and when daily; this is just a few videos I know will come out (hopefully during these time periods).

Late October - What's with Andy? (2001) retrospective
A lookback on an edgy Canadian series about pranks featuring the voice of Ocean Dub Goku. A collab that's shaping up nicely.
Halloween - review of What's it Like Being Alone (2006)
An opportunity to highlight another show from up North about orphaned misfits; reminds me a lot of the Oblongs but a touch more cynical.
Early November - continuation of the annual NFB November miniseries
Every year, I talk about some short films from the National Film Board of Canada; I'm doing the same this year with a bit of a twist.
Nov. - comparative analysis of various Clifford the Big Red Dog animated series
Just a lil' something cooked up to drop sometime close to the upcoming movie. Can you believe there's at least three of these things?
Mid/Late December - documentary on The Raccoons (1980)
A deep dive on a -you guessed it- Canadian classic about environmentalism and the meaning of humanity. I've had this on my bucket list for a while so I'm excited to finally dig into this classic.

Like I said, this isn't completely summative of my plans for the rest of the year; this is a handful of projects I know will likely see completion at these times. Week to week, I'll put out smaller things I've been chipping away at here and there. This week or next, I'm hoping to release a topical video essay. It's a bit spicy but I hope it'll be impactful. Cheers!

[PATREON Cut] Scooby Doo x Courage's Straight Outta Nowhere Is a Very 2021 Movie

Hey there, thanks for being here! In the process of uploading the last video, it got chopped up significantly so it would pass content ID claims. I wanted to put the first cut here in case anyone wanted a smoother version of the visuals.  Enjoy!
