Tarnow - Theremin Sonata no. 2 - lll. Fugato

Hello my dear patrons!

This morning I was working on exercises for my new method book. There is a technique which I call "alternate picking" (working title), in German "Wechselschlag" which I use to play tremolo or rapid tone changes. The left hand is outside the volume antenna and does alternating up and down movements to use the volume range above and below the antenna simultaneously with one movement.

I thought of one example piece where I use this technique and remembered the ...

The next screening of the documentary "Confessions of a Good Samaritan" will be on October 16th in PRAGUE and I'm going to be there! Super excited to see the film on a big screen. Let me know, if you are around! :)

Arabic Music

Hello my dear patrons!

I hope you are doing well! I caught a cold last weekend and am still recovering from it. Tomorrow I'm going on vacation for two weeks... it seems like I need it. ;)

Today, I found something special which I wanted to share with you. These are two videos of a performance of Arabic music together with Aktham Abou Fakher (oud) and Volker Hemken (bass clarinet) in Leipzig in 2016. I never published them, because unfortunately the project ended shortly after and I...

Hänschen klein: Score with finger positions

Hello my dear patrons!

Today I have a very simple little piece for you. Perfect, if you are a beginner on the theremin! It's the German children's song "Hänschen klein". I really like it as a beginner's piece, because the range is a fifth and you can reach all notes with just your fingers, without moving your right wrist. Also, you can practice the difference between long and short notes with your left hand to give the melody a little more character.

Happy practicing! :)

Live Zoom Workshop: Tuning the Theremin – August 11th

Hello my dear patrons,

Another Live Zoom Workshop is happening soon! This time the topic is: Tuning the Theremin

Tuning the theremin is a basic topic, but it's sooo important. We will talk about how to generally adjust the pitch and the volume field. We will learn finger position 1 and 8 in order to tune the pitch field more precisely. And we will also talk about the response knobs (on the Claravox for example) to modify the fields even further.

Time: Friday, August 11th at ...

Remembrance

Hello my dear patrons!

Some of you might know my composition "Remembrance". I just recently stumbled over the first version I did on this piece back in 2015 when it was called "Drawings". It has gone through quite an evolution since then, so I thought I'd share it with you, bringing back the first version of it:

Playing the Theremin with Bubbles

Hello my dear patrons,

I hope you are doing well!

Today, I wanted to share with you the moment I discovered that you can play the theremin with soap bubbles. This was nine years ago, when my pianist Christopher and I were goofing around, trying to come up with different ways to play the theremin to entertain our audience. :) It's been a nice element in workshops for kids ever since.

Wishing you a lovely rest of the week!
