Monday Update

Awesome - Patreon now has post tags! I've started to add them to older posts, but it's slow-going...
SUCK - While adding tags to old posts, I also started deleting old text posts, and posts that had cropped previews pointing to Dropbox.
CRAP - Instead of deleting those previews, I could have replaced the cropped images with the full versions!

On a different note, from this point on, I could be in unknown territory.  There are two directions I could go in that lead to the same ending - one gets there quicker but could be anticlimactic, while the other uses the extra time to build suspense.  I'm not sure which one would be better, and unfortunately I can't offer more details without going into spoilers.

Tumblr explosion

Wow...  so in the past week, that Crystal Gems pic has gotten over 1,000 notes on Tumblr!   And Jasper looks to be catching up!  Attention whore that I am, I've got more SU stuff planned for whenever I have time - a follow-up pic where Ruby & Sapphire have defused to share in the fun, then possibly a (SFW) follow-up to that, where they consider trying some "Earth-style fusion"...  although neither of them really knows what that means.

Feeling the burn

Quick question - how do you feel about a bi-weekly comic schedule?

As much as I'd like to get a page out every week, doing so in addition to everything else is a sure way to burn myself out. Perhaps a weekly schedule could be a new milestone goal, but I'm not sure at what level it would kick in. That would also depend on my campaign being focused on comics, where so far it's been aimed at everything I'm working on...

I've been in a bit of a funk over the past few days.  Best thing to do is just power through it, and ignore my couch's siren song.  So far the next couple of comic pages are thumbnailed, and I've got 2/5 of the Crystal Gems image drawn!  But unless I get at least one of this month's commissions drawn in the next couple of hours, or decide to ink & color the Crystal Gems pic, there may not be a stream today...

The votes are in!  Looks like I'll be busy with some fun fan artings this month, in addition to everything else!  To save time and keep some sanity, I'll probably only be doing these as sketches, rather than inks & colors.

Back to Work

My nieces have gone home, my sunburns have mostly healed, time to get back to work!   ...And fight myself every step of the way.  You spend a few days doing nothing, you want to have a few more...

There are a few options for what I could work on, so perhaps we should have a vote?  We haven't done one of those in a while!  I could spend the next few days working on the next comic page, or on pinups.

A first

This might just be the first time I enjoyed drawing a background!  Page two is inked and ready for color, and should be finished sometime this week!

On the right might be an example of me overthinking or over-complicating a simple idea.  The original pose (left) is done and ready for inks, but I though it'd be fun if it were a mirror image.  So far I'm not liking the foreground pose, though, so I may end up scrapping that idea.

I've dragged my feet long enough - time to shove the new comic out the door, already!  Now I'll need to set a schedule, and stick to it until this chapter is done!  One page a week shouldn't be too difficult, unless I'm busy.  But if I am busy and it takes more than two weeks for a new page, someone needs to slap me.  (Form an orderly line, if you must)

Recovery day

Yesterday was just a bit too busy - light drawing in the morning, followed by yard work, freelance modeling in the afternoon, and coding in the evening.  By the time I was done, my arm was flaring up pretty badly, so today I figured I'd recover with a whole lot of nothing.

...I can't sit still for too long, though, so I roughed in the first two panels of page 2 with an ice pack nearby in case I needed it.  (Monique is from yesterday)

The plot thickens

As of today, I'm more or less done with my freelance 3D modeling! There are still some more characters to model, but it sounds like their designs won't be ready before I start my animation contract. What's awesome is the guy is so pleased with my work so far, he's asked if I can do both jobs at the same time, even offering to make it worth the extra trouble!

Cassie & Daisy

I'd been meaning to draw Theycallhimcake's Cassie for some time, but had trouble finding the right idea. I also needed to draw Daisy, because otherwise I might forget how, so why not draw both?

New comic page layout

Awesome - my diner models make it so much easier to rough in a page like this!  All I have to draw is a hand, Amy, and maybe some customers, and it's all set!

On a different note, it's starting to feel like the universe really doesn't want me to animate WoW porn on the side - the guy I've been working for this week told me there will also be plenty of animation work, if I'm interested.  He says it could be enough to keep ...

Tallying up the votes, it looks like Amy #2 is the winner!  #3 trails by only one vote...  maybe they can be combined, with her having her hair in a bun on one side?

On a different note, I've been meaning to draw some fan art of Theycallhimcake's Cassie, and so far this is the most fun idea I've come up with.  With everything else on my to-do list, though, I certainly have time to put some more thought into it.

Amy sketches

I still want to have the first page of the next comic roughed and ready for inks by the weekend, but first I need to figure out the look for Amy, Daisy's one-armed waitress.

For the first three, I'm trying for Asian.  The last one on the right is supposed to be Middle-Eastern.  I didn't like how that one turned out, though, so I did #4 as a variant of the Asian design.

When it rains

I knew this would happen - today I started the one freelance gig, and now it looks like a bigger contract could be headed my way in a couple of weeks.  And from the sound of it, that contract could keep me busy for all of July and August.

On one hand, I'm glad to finally have some paying work.  Over the past several months, I wouldn't have guessed that I'd suddenly have more work than I might be able to handle.  On the other hand, I'm still curious how my WoW smut idea m...

Go figure

With my tauren model roughly 90% rigged, and the gnome in progress, pretty soon I'll be able to move on to the next phase of my evil plan!  The only thing that can stop me now is if some freelance work finally comes my way, which of course just happened.  Looks like it's back to work for me starting tomorrow, so this Warcraft stuff will have to wait.

With only two more commissions left to draw, I figured it was safe to get started on my gnome update.  Only a couple hours in, and it looks like most of the reshaping is already done!

Ready for Prime Time?

Guess who's (almost) ready for animation?  My tauren's skin weights are about as clean as I can get them, so all that's left is to set up her rig and fix her textures!

That will all have to wait, though.  It's a new month, so over the next week I'll be working on the latest batch of commissions, and once those are finished my priority will be the next comic chapter!  The whole chapter is plotted out, and the first 3-4 pages are thumbnailed, so I just need to sit down and dr...

With everything else for this month finished, and next month's focus being the next comic chapter, today and tomorrow I think I'll be working on some stuff.  With a little luck I can get my tauren mod ready to animate.  I also now have a rough gnome model sheet, so I can start working on that model whenever I have time.

I may have mentioned this before, but one of the reasons I'm so interested in these WoW models is simply because it'll be much quicker to prep them for animation ...
