At the start of this chapter I've started to work in page format!
I've made the previous chapters large enough that the images could be edited into page format in the future, but I was convinced by some very powerful gal pals that this would save me a lot of work in the long run. I used this month's wallpaper as a chance to make something for MerMay! Quite the mood they got going on there 🥰
I may have had inspiration from a certain show for the color palette (The diamonds and the glowy lights are a reference to it 🙏). I also had way too much fun experimenting with Nola's scales! I hope you lovelies enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!! 💖

Besides sometimes adding an additional panel for pacing.. (like with the hand kisses how could I not add more to that?? haha)
Something I do end up leaving last tends to be the effects that go behind certain character moments. I was originally just going to throw a bunch of hearts at mel but that would have looked really busy, so the pink-splosion worked out perfectly!

This is one of the less spoiler intense ideas that came to mind recently, but I thought I'd use it to call myself out for how disorganized I can get when I plan haha!

Episode 2.2 was more dialogue driven, with not much changing in terms of scenery. So I thought I'd talk a little bit about this sequence! This was actually a last minute addition to the episode. I very much struggled with the perspective angles and distance with the three establishing shots I drew haha. It's both very challenging but very fun trying to figure it out! Even if it's not 100% what I wanted, I know I can try and make it better the next time around! From the boat WIP you can see how I kind of block the shape out first and then define it more and more until I'm good with it. That's generally how I approach my backgrounds as well.

If you come from webtoon, you probably didn't realize Cass was animated!
You can see her Keyframes that I used in the second image. My original idea was to have a different reaction for whatever was happening in the episode. Thus we have the extra little dizzy Cass that was going be for Episode 4. I realized I needed to simplify, and will just change the characters in rotation. So look forward to some other silly animation credits in the future!

There were so many anatomy tweaks I had to do here. They deserved to look the best to my abilities for this kiss ;;
After the sketches you see here, I made separate layers for their bodies just to get the anatomy down more. I consulted a powerful GL webcomic master and she gave incredible feedback. I still get feeling when I see them holding each other like this.

One of the big challenges I've set for myself in making this comic is to try and get better at backgrounds, buildings and cityscapes. I'm very excited to see how my progress turns out as I keep making the comic!

I plan things in a single, relatively small file. This helps me see if I'm varying my panels enough. When I have my rough thumbnails down, that's when I look for a good place to slice it between episodes. I may add an extra panel or two if I feel like it's lacking in flow. (For Ep01 it was small Cass realizing the Dragon the traveler is talking about is Nola) Or!
