This is a preview of the first installment of Weirdest Episode Ever, about "The Day the Spores Landed," the male pregnancy episode of The Cosby Show. Yes, talking about Bill Cosby and the assault allegations sucks, but if we truly are exploring the weird side of sitcom history, we had to talk about this, which was weird enough when it first aired and has only been rendered weirder by the passage of time.
This is a preview, so it's just the first half, and if you're seeing it in your fee...

Hi all. The first installment of Weirdest Episode Ever is now live, for all patrons paying $5 or more a month. We'll be cranking these out fairly regularly, hoping to get all ten live by the end of February.
Here is the list of episodes we are covering this season:
- The Cosby Show, "The Day the Spores Landed" (a.k.a. the male pregnancy episode)
- I Love L...

Hello and welcome to the first installment of Weirdest Episode Ever, our new Patreon bonus series exploring the times classic sitcoms veered into horror, sci-fi, fantasy or otherwise weird genres you would not expect in the half-hour format. And we have dropped a majorly weird one to kick stuff off. It *is* about The Cosby Show. And Bill Cosby. And the assault allegations. So a major content warning, but we promise this is a very, very weird bit of TV history.

Content warning: In discussing plotlines on Soap, we do bring up suicide and, very briefly, sexual assault.
"Episode 4.1" (November 12, 1980)*
Finally! It's one of the biggest cult favorite sitcoms of all time *and* it's also a show famous for having a LGBT character in the main cast. The only reason it's taken us this many years to tackle Soap is that it's so much more serialized than mostly anything else we cover, so while we focus on one particular episode, we're also discussin...

Because of a scheduling thing, we're not going to be recording this week's early Patreon feed episode until Wednesday night. I'll try to get it up ASAP on Thursday.

Vote for as many as you want! Not just one this time! Poll ends Thursday! Remember: I can see how you vote and I will know which of you vote for Glee, so vote for Glee at your own peril.
And yeah, some of this were not technically single words, per my instructions, but I chose to allow them because they embraced the spirit of this month's suggestions, which was broad jumping off points.

"What's Love Got to Do With It?" (November 18, 2001)
Welcome to the first installment of the new monthly version of The Cartoons That Made Us Gay!
People have been asking us to do Reboot since we starts this, mostly because Old Enzo is way hotter than he has any right to be. But now that we're finally doing it, we're surprised as anyone to report that there's a lot of queer subtext for the female characters on the show too. In fact, in this particular episode, there's more debatab...

“Jonathan the Gymnast” (November 18, 1986)
Technically, Who’s the Boss? never did a gay episode, but because Danny Pintauro’s sexuality looms large over this sitcom, many episodes seem a little gayer as a result — and this episode especially so. In it, Tony and Angela step into the kitchen to have a frank discussion of why Jonathan is not like other boys, and it really comes off like Who’s the Boss? is asking viewers to overlook this aspect of the character. It’s fucked up...

This is an honest-to-God follow-up to our previous Wings episode, which was all about the series antagonist, Roy Biggins, finding out his son was gay. Five seasons later, someone at Wings thought to ask “Hey, what if that gay character didn’t cease to exist the moment that first episode ended?” This episode marks one of the few t...

There is a new LEGO contest where people can submit designs for a DnD-style dungeon, so naturally Glen was all over that. The design is up now, and one of the factors that will help determine finalists is comments on the entries. So if you are interested, you could make an account and post a comment saying how awesome this design is.

“The Man We Love” (June 30, 1996)
Last week, we looked at Married… With Children’s take on an anti-Friends. This week, we decided to look at the last episode of a show that aired the previous season on Fox. While it was not designed as a response to Friends, it nonetheless managed to solve some of that show’s major problems. Namely, it’s racially diverse, there’s a queer character in the opening credits, and the characters actually work. It’s also funny, and having been ...

So it looks like Weirdest Episode Ever won the vote — not by a lot, but by enough that we feel safe calling it. So the plan is for us to get going on the episodes next week, with the first chunk of the 10-episode season coming out before the end of year and the second half in 2023.
We have ideas about what we should cover for this mini-season, but we have not finalized the list. What weird episode of a classic episode would you like us to do?

So with the last two episodes now live on the Patreon feed, I'm curious to know which you'd prefer. Vote and let us know! But also keep in mind that we will be bringing Cartoons That Made Us Gay this month as a regular monthly podcast. This new series will be done on a more weekly basis, with the goal of getting the majority of them done before the end of the year.
CLARIFICATION: Whichever idea we don't do next, we will very likely just do after the first one is done, so it's less one o...

“Enemies” (April 14, 1996)
You may recall a late-series installment of Married… With Children that shifted focus away from the Bundys and onto an apartment of young sexy people who apparently despised each other. This was “Enemies,” a kinda-sorta send-up of Friends that never saw the light of day beyond this one episode. Our theory is that it was a reformatted spinoff that at one point was going to star Christina Applegate and that also features a guy who’s totally a stand-i...

This is your chance to drop any questions, comments, criticisms or recollections about the 1985 vampire comedy Once Bitten. It's one of Glen's favorite movies and it's how we are saying goodbye to GEE Movie Club. Post a comment here and will read it/address it/respond to it in the episode, which we will be recording most likely on Sunday.

“It May Look Like a Walnut” (February 6, 1963)
It’s not the first “weird” episode that a sitcom ever did, but it’s probably the most famous: the second-season installment of The Dick Van Dyke Show where it departed from the usual formula and became a sci-fi B-movie. It turns out to be a dream, of course, but you actually aren’t sure until the final moments, and it’s still one of the stranger sequences you’ll ever see on a mainstream sitcom.
This episode is not al...

Warning! This story has some gruesome details and is not for the squeamish.
I'm not sure what this is, exactly, because it's not something I've ever used podcasting for, but I recorded myself recounting a story that I call "She Everywhere," along with a follow-up story that is, appropriately enough, called "He Everywhere." Is this of value or of interest at all? Cool if not, but here it is. Happy Halloween.

Hi all. This is a quick note to explain what I talked about in the GEE Movie Club post I put up today. I decided to end GEE Movie Club, for a few reasons, the most important of which is that I’m trying to avert burnout by eliminating work that’s not central to the stuff I care most about.
Basically, the longer we did GEE Movie Club, the more I felt like it didn’t match what we do on GEE, which is TV focused. I really loved doing Cartoons That Made Us Gay, and I feel like you all c...

People have been asking us to cover this show basically since we started the podcast, and so this week we finally decide to cover it… by looking into an episode no one wanted us to do. In our heads, the most interesting part of the show is Cam and Mitchell, and the most interesting part of Cam and Mitchell is Eric Stonestreet’s portrayal of Cam. He’s straight, but we say he delivers a nuanced character who both embraces and defies stereotypes. Also,...

More than a hundred episodes later (of All in the Family but also of this podcast), we return to the Archie Bunker primary universe to find out if everyone's favorite bigot got over his homophobia. It's linked to in the show notes, but I thought I'd also post the original "The Family" sketch that ultimately morphed into Mama's Family. Written by at least one queer person, it's not funny so much as it is very well-realized about what it's like to be a creative person who does no longer can be understood by their family. I kind of felt like I'd been hit in the gut when I watched this, honestly. Your mileage may vary.
