1,100 gallons, $1,099. Much cheaper than a pool, with a clear side for easy filming. Could probably fit this under the deck where Hambunker is. Thoughts?

2000w inverter, safe to draw maybe 1500w from it. Will upload a video showing the installation process by the end of the month. If Portland keeps going downhill this may come in handy sooner than expected.

Plugging in 2 of the webcams thru powered USB hubs solves the "you are drawing too much current from the USB ports" error I was getting before. Hambunker has been cleaned out, filled with fresh new nesting fluff, resupplied with water and will be resupplied with food when I'm ready to put Dick back in there. He has dwarf blood, he's been above ground for far too long.

Performed initial leak test of Megahab in tub. Water entered. Felt confused and discouraged until I noticed there was no silicone sealant at all where the heater pad power cable enters through the hull. Mystery solved. Will need to further delay river test however. Won't be much content for this month's video besides Hambunker repairs, it has been too fucking hot to do anything outside during the day recently.

It only cost me $40 for two rubber gaskets, lol. I could not buy them separately from a P-Trap kit they were part of. They're not offered separately on the Valterra website, or on Amazon. There is no part number printed on them. It would've been cheaper just to buy a spool of TPE filament and print my own gaskets, which I think I'll do going forward.
Tunnel is now water tight. No bubbles at all. There are modest bubble leaks at the backs of the hab modules where the umbilicals enter, I...

Comment with your Minecraft username to be whitelisted. To claim an apartment, change the sign over the door to your name. You'll appear at spawn, and probably need a mod to teleport you to the colony. Ask Shortok for a teleport if he's online. Each apartment comes with a "welcome kit" including basic tools, food and stuff you'll need to live either undersea or in the sky, depending whether you choose to reside in the undersea colony or the sky ring. You can dec...

After picking it up 2 years ago but not sticking to it, I'm properly learning Unity now. After spending yesterday doing the tutorials I have a working VR scene I can put my headset on & look around in, made from free asset store stuff (pictured). My guy can't walk yet, I'm currently learning to implement thumbstick locomotion.
My plans for this new skillset will be to create interactive explorable models of the habitats so you can "be the hamster". This is a simple goal of an atta...

Upon investigating the cause of the near total failure of the cameras, it wasn't the cables being chewed from inside this time. Rather, it was the cables being chewed from outside. Probably by the rat visitors certain eagle eyed stream watchers have spotted. I think I'm spilling hamster food during refills, attracting the rats, who can then feel heat coming from the surface building & want to get inside.
Poison is out, since I have a kitten now who will be venturing outside when i...

I am sorry to inform you all that Jade has passed. I will spare you pictures. Jade was an accomplished aquanaut, having spent about 6 cumulative months underwater. But also an aeronaut, riding the hamcopter up to 400 feet for ~20 minutes, as well as going on several outdoor expeditions across the yard, or in the grass at parks. She lived as few hams have dared to dream. There will be a tribute to Jade in next month's video.

How does that even happen? Apologies to all my supporters, I'm going to have to re-shoot all the footage. No idea what caused this, the files won't open in any player and read as being a few kb each on disk according to Windows.

Stills taken from the upcoming video, expect it September 1st. Besides this I think the only improvements I can make are the addition of a small battery between the solar panel and the pump to act as a buffer (so I don't need the sun constantly at my back to keep the water circulating) and a USB thermoelectric chiller, like the ones you see on Amazon for keeping a single can of beer/soda cold. Integrating that into the thermos ought to keep the ice frozen for longer.

It works! Everything's hooked up and it does what I expected. With chilled tap water I felt the cooling effect immediately, but of course with no ice it didn't last for long. That's a problem because the pump I chose needs to be immersed in water to work, and it takes up most of the space in the current coolant (water) reservoir, aka the thermos.
This means I either need a larger thermos which can fit both the pump & the blue ice cores, or I need to fit one of those USB thermoelec...

I lost over 100 Twitch subs this month from fans forgetting to renew their free Prime Twitch sub, my preferred means of support since it doesn't cost you anything. Those of you who feel inclined to continue your support, ask Google Assistant / Siri to set a monthly reminder.
I have a little over 3,200 followers on Twitch now (hooray) but only 42 of them sub (un-hooray). I shudder to e-beg but this is a totally free means of support for people with Prime who want to help out this...

Jim is no more, succumbing yesterday to old age insofar as I can tell. Hab was dry and warm, air was flowing, nothing was technically amiss. He was just old, at 1 year 7 months when dwarf hams typically live 2 years. What perturbs me is that I've had multiple hams live nearly 3 years in the past. Jade, by the way, is still going strong thank goodness.
Did I do something wrong with Jim? Or was the unusual longevity of prior hamsternauts evidence I did something right, and Jim just had ...

In a massive oversight, I buried hambunker assuming Dick, like any other hamster, would intuitively know how to climb vertical tubes to get between the various levels of the bunker. I was wrong and should've done a dry run before I buried it. No harm done, Dick was irritated at the interruption of his day to day life taking care of important hamster shit but was otherwise unaffected.
The fix is probably as simple as installing longer, curved tubes that empty out horizontally so there's...

Video feeds work, heater works, compressor works, just waiting for the silicone to cure before I shovel dirt on this sumbitch and attach the surface building. Can't believe I finished everything in time for the 1st of July! I'm exhausted

All three sublevels are wired up for light and video. So is the surface building. All that remains is to seal the containers with silicone, and to add red filters, something I want to experiment with since I read a study that indicates red light is more comfortable for crepuscular critters. Oh, and I added an air tube down to the lowest level so I can run a pump to refresh air if I deem it necessary. Probably will do it regardless, it can't hurt.
Look forward to the official launch of ...

For those who don't follow my Twitter, this month's stage of the larger, ongoing project of hamster instrumentality is finally burying Hambunker. I rolled up my sleeves and got digging. But when I finished the hole I thought hard about finalizing the design since once I bury that thing, it'd be a bitch to dig it up and make modifications.
I ran a poll on Twitter and over 80% said I should add one more floor. It may surprise you to learn that due to the lighting, cables and camera, each...
