I was hoping to get into a one-manual-per-day posting schedule but these things take a bit more time to clean and straighten than you might expect. Anyway! Here's Super Mario World's manual in PDF form.
Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone out there has the manual to Bionic Battler for Game Boy? I divested myself of the game before confirming the scans I made, and one of the pages didn't come out cleanly so I need to recan. Any help with that would be lovely!

I'm a man of my word! Here's the final entry in the overlong episode 000 of Good Nintentions. This brings Good Nintentions to a true and complete end, hoorah.
Upcoming: I have a couple of requests to knock out (Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa and a feature on Mario/Wario Land evolution), and then I hope to buckle down on Game Boy World again. Too many projects, not enough time...

Note that this is strictly a manual for a game called Hong Kong; it is in no way intended to provide advice or guidance for traveling to the actual territory called Hong Kong.

Here's the shortest video I think I've put together here, but you won't have to wait long for the conclusion to this one. It kind of made sense to separate the Famicom, AVS, and NES out into individual pieces, even if the AVS episode is 2 minutes long and mostly consists of still footage of an image from Wikipedia. What can ya do?

As promised, I'm now working my way backward through the Game Boy library that I've covered to date to upload high-resolution manual scan PDFs. They're not 100% perfect, but someone who takes offense to signs of wear is welcome to dismantle the PDFs and fuss around with image enhancement. I wish I could do it myself, but we're talking thousands of pages scanned so far. I, alas, am but one man... and already a distressingly busy one at that. I would prefer not to take on a commitment that would p...

Something I've always meant to do with these chrono-gaming projects of mine is properly reproduce the game manuals. I've uploaded scans, but I'm talking next level, here. And this is the first effort on that front: A full high-resolution scan of the F-Zero manual, saved as a PDF. I'd like to offer this on the Mode Seven site, but the file is 187 MB compressed, and just one of those would get my hosting account shut down muy pronto.
I'll upload them here for now as patron bonuses...

OK, here we go: The third in the three-part Super Mario World series. I'll try not to do many multi-parters — but with this game I really needed to spend some time digging into it, and as you might expect, I don't exactly have the bandwidth to make a 42-minute video in my free time in a single week.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I literally haven't even been able to watch this video yet because life has been so topsy-turvy the past few days. Besides certain high-visibility world e...

I somehow managed to get this episode together while on the road! And in fact I would have had it for you yesterday but let me tell ya, free airport wi-fi is not much good for uploading 11-minute HD video. Anyway, enjoy!

This week's video will probably run a bit late – I'm traveling and, if you can believe it, producing high-quality video is really difficult on the road. I'll see about making it up to you by putting together a mid-week bonus.
This month's going to be a little rocky as a whole. In a few days, I'm turning my home office inside-out so we can get proper shelving and desks installed. That'll take two weeks, during which time I'll have family visiting... and once they leave, MORE family comes to v...

I'm grateful to everyone who responded to my last post. It sounds like a large majority of you have no interest in a DVD collection of Game Boy World (et al.) videos, which is... about what I expected. There had been some requests, so I wanted to see if there was larger interest. And, there's not. Which is fine.
Honestly, I'm not crazy about the idea myself — DVDs, being standard definition and keyed to cinematic 24fps framerates, would really lose the technical appeal of my videos (72...

Hello and happy, um, November!?
I have a question for you fine people and I hope to get lots of responses so as to base my decision on an accurately sampling demographic. Please chime in if you have about 30 seconds free! Here it goes:
If I were to add new pledge tiers that allowed you to pay, say, an extra $5/mo. to receive a physical DVD compilation of Game Boy World videos (or of other projects) twice a year, would you be interested?
Lemme know! There has been some ...

I think I said the next GBW episode would be in a couple weeks. But you know me: A filthy, filthy liar. This game is not really all that great, but there's a certain something about it that keeps me from hating it. With a few tweaks to its design — like, say, a save feature — it could actually be pretty decent. Ah well!

Well, it looks like the two-part Super Mario World episode for Mode Seven is going to be a THREE-part Super Mario World episode, because the second part of the script turned out to be nearly twice the length of the first. And I'm really trying to avoid producing episodes that run much longer than 10 minutes, because stats prove that very few people watch videos for longer than 10 minutes. This one will probably run about 25 minutes, so... yeah.
If I do break this script into two ...

Begin the day with a friendly voice, a companion unobtrusive. Or maybe that should be "a nerdy voice"? Anyway, here's next week's GBW release very early, since I'll be out of town for Portland Retro Gaming Expo this coming weekend. Enjoy!

Your first of two videos I put together this weekend! This one is the video about a game that's not very much fun. The other is less agonizing, I promise. Look for that one tomorrow. See, Mondays aren't all bad.

Well, thanks to the freaking hurricane, I spent much of my weekend without electricity... which means I didn't have time to put together the video I had planned. Instead, I only had time to create the first half of the Good Nintentions hardware retrospective. Not really what I had in mind, but I feel like I have a pretty good excuse! Anyway, hope this passes muster regardless.

I guess the price I pay for the unexpected delight of Amazing Penguin is the tragedy of Bionic Battler. If you squint, you can almost imagine how kids 25 years ago might have thought this game was kind of cool, but it really doesn't hold up. Oh well! It did remind me that eventually I'll get to review Faceball 2000, which is pretty cool.

Here's a great example of what Game Boy World is all about. I'd never have even given this game a second glance if I weren't producing a video about it, and that would have been a shame! It's really good. Definitely dig up a copy of this one if you can swing it.

Hello! Happy... October!? Sheesh. Well, anyway, here's the next GBW script. It's one of those rare pleasures: A game that I expected nothing from, and which turned out to be great. So much better than when I expect a game to be great and it turns out to be nothing...

The second Mode Seven episode — or rather, the first half of the second episode — has arrived. Part two next weekend. Please look forward to it!
And yeah, some of the game footage came from outside sources; I ran out of time for capture of the advanced stages (Star Road, etc.) and ended up being forced to source what I needed externally. Hopefully it doesn't detract from the video too much!

Hi there! My next video will be the second Mode Seven, a look at Super Mario World. The one after that will be a look at Super Mario World also, because I have far more to say about Super Mario World than I can realistically cram into a video and still maintain my weekly production schedule. So please enjoy the script for the first of two Mario World videos....

Hello everyone, here it is! The final PDF of Good Nintentions 1985. It's an external link because Patreon's site barfs on files larger than 100 MB; hopefully you won't encounter any Dropbox data limits. Please enjoy the book.
And once again, thank you for your support. This game history project is one of the few bright spots in my life these days, and I truly am grateful so many of you are willing to help make it happen.

I teased a new episode of GBW for Sept. 27, but that was back when I thought I'd be going to Tokyo Game Show. Since I didn't, the new GBW will go up to the public on the 20th instead. That's tomorrow in PST (Patreon Standard Time).
The next game is really awful, and I spent a lot of time researching the source material to see if I was missing something. Nope. It's just straight up not a good game.
Anyway, here's the script in advance of the video, per usual.

Hey everyone, just posting a general announcement that if you are someone who should be receiving a physical copy of Good Nintentions 1985... that copy is in production now and will be shipping directly to you soon. If you are someone who should be receiving a PDF version, that will be up and ready for you no later than this weekend. (I'd post it right now, but the PDF version requires some changes to pagination notations within the text and I'm currently grinding through a Shin M...

This episode turned out a bit more like Chrontendo than I intended, so... whoops. But, basically, I wanted to compare and contrast the NES launch to that of the Famicom, to show off the very different first-year libraries each system received. It's basically a video adaptation of the book excerpt I posted a little while back, so you've probably already seen this material. But hey!
Please note that if you're watching this video as soon as I post it, you'll hear an editing glitch at about the 10...

Hey everyone, just checking in. Hello!
I should have a new Good Nintentions episode for you tomorrow, but in the meantime... the final proof for the Good Nintentions 1985 book should be arriving in a few hours. So! If you are a PDF-tier backer, expect a final revision of the book file by Monday. And if you're a physical-book-tier backer, please be sure your mailing address is in the system and up-to-date. I'm putting the book up for sale on Sept. 20, and I'd like for everyone due ...

First: Everyone who supports this campaign at the PDF level or higher ought to go back and read yesterday's post verrrry carefully!
Secondly: Here's the next Patron request episode. I've had this script in the bag for a while, but decided to hang on to it as a follow-up to Super Mario Bros. Kinda makes sense, you know? Since it was repurposed as a sequel to that game and all...
Next episode will be... another Good Nintentions Gaiden, as it turns out. See ya next week.

Hello! Everyone!
I'm incredibly excited to upload a Very Important Link to you today: The near-final (like, revision 0.99) PDF edition of Good Nintentions 1985. I am placing an order for a printed proof today and want to give that a once-over before sending out physical editions to book-tier backers. Digital data, however, is basically free, so I would like to share this with all PDF-level backers now and, should the need for revisions or corrections arise, upload a fixed file for you la...

Hi everyone,
I wanted to take a moment and quickly extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who supports (and continues to support!) my video projects. Your backing doesn't simply justify the enormous amount of personal time I invest in these, but it also makes possible the books that go along with the videos—I couldn't begin to track down all these complete Game Boy (etc.) games to record and republish without these funds, even with people's generous game loans and donations. Video game hist...
