Finally! Good Nintentions #016: Super Mario Bros.

This was a doozy, but I've finally completed it. And with this, the core content of Good Nintentions 1985 is also complete! If you support my videos at a physical book backer tier, you really ought to make sure your mailing address is in the system and up-to-date, because I estimate you're about three weeks from receiving a copy of my next publication. And it's REALLY good, so you're going to want a copy. Just sayin'.

Happy 25th birthday, Super NES! I got you a video.

The nice thing is, you can enjoy Super NES's birthday gift, too. So please enjoy.

(Sorry about those couple of audio glitches — I've been under severe time constraints for the past month and wouldn't have been able to get this episode finished this weekend if I'd waited to re-record.)

So, I taught myself how to use After Effects

You know, for that authentic Super NES title screen experience.

Cowabunga! Game Boy World #074!

Here we go — another Game Boy World episode, and one that has nothing whatsoever to do with puzzles. (Outside of the Krang minigames.) I didn't enjoy Fall of the Foot Clan as much as I had expected to based on its reputation, I'm afraid, but it's still a breath of fresh air.

That said, I could use a little more fresh air. So, I'm taking a break from Game Boy World for a month or so to focus on some other video projects. Some new, some not. Please look forward to it.

Game Boy World #074 script!

I thought I was going to do Super Mario Bros. next, but I was WRONG. Here is a script about a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game instead. The game is... not as good as I expected when I put together the "next episode" bit at the end of Ishido. Oh well.

New script: Good Nintentions Gaiden #1

Hello! It's August. Somehow. Annnnd... here's the next super-patron request video script, which ties very neatly to my most recent script upload. It's a look at Doki Doki Panic, aka Super Mario Bros. 2, aka Super Mario Bros. USA, and it dovetails nicely with the Super Mario Bros. script I'm currently working to convert into video form. Look forward to both within the next couple of weeks!

The one exciting thing about this episode is that next episode isn't a puzzle game.

The Super Mario Bros. script

I have been plugging away at this thing for... wow, I don't know. Weeks. A month? Longer? A long time. Anyway, I finished! Except for copy edits. Now I can close the book on Good Nintentions 1985 and put the book together. Pretty exciting.

This video's going to clock in at 20+ minutes, so... don't expect it this weekend. But I will have Ishidō for you soon!

Like I said, more to come soon.

Warning: More puzzle nudity in this episode.

Game Boy World: The next two scripts

Hi everyone, despite the challenges this month has posed for me (personally and professionally) I'm trying to get ahead of the ball again and — hopefully! — build enough padding into my schedule that I can publish weekly Game Boy World videos and squeeze in regular extras as well (currently I have in the works: Super Mario Bros. for Good Nintentions, a backer bonus episode, and The Anatomy of Dragon Quest Pt. I). To that end, I've wanted to put together a big ol' st...

Next script: Ranma 1/2

Howdy! Welcome to a new week. I was so buried in Retronauts sessions this weekend I forgot to post the cool script I put together for my next cool Game Boy World video: Ranma 1/2 Kakuren Bodesu Match. As much as I loved Ranma 1/2 20 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised by how not-terrible this adaptation was... something I can't say for pretty much any other Ranma game I've ever played over the years.

Why yes, it's another GBW video: Dr. Mario

Here's the second of those promised videos. Once again, it may be a couple of weeks before the next one is ready — I have to spend this coming weekend in San Francisco for 12 hours of Retronauts sessions, and that precludes doing much video work. I hope to have the epic Super Mario Bros. episode of Good Nintentions prepped in advance, but there are a lot of things going on in my personal life at the moment that are cutting into my video time. We'll see!

Next script: Dr. Mario

I have a long weekend of video editing ahead of me! Here's the second of the two videos I hope to wrap up before I head off for a week of demos and Retronauts sessions in San Francisco.

It's a national holiday in the U.S., so let's look at a story about Tasmania

Hi everyone, welcome to a fresh new month. To get things started, here is the script for the next episode of Game Boy World. Please to be enjoy.

Game Boy World #068

One last video for June! I probably won't post an episode next weekend, as I have a ton of out of town family obligation for the holiday, but I'll make up for it by getting to work on the undoubtedly massive Super Mario Bros. Good Nintentions, and the first Anatomy of Games video....

I'm back from E3, and so is Game Boy World

Here's episode 67 to prove it. Yeah!

Thanks for bearing with the brief break while I had to travel to L.A., where they forced me to play Zelda and The Last Guardian. It was rough, lemme tell ya.

Hey, it's Good Nintentions #015

Thankfully, there wasn't too much to say about this particular game, so I was able to edit it together tonight in very short order.

Sorry if I sound a little weird here — I lost my voice over the weekend, so I was really straining to project with this recording.

And now! On to E3.

A preview

The items I had ordered for the next couple of episodes have arrived! The promo image for this post is a sneak peek at one of them.... the other was a copy of Paperboy for Lynx, for which I've recorded my first-ever high-definition Lynx RGB footage for use in an episode. Exciting times! My only concern is getting videos posted while I travel next week... E3 convention wireless speeds are not known for being particularly impressive. Or even usable.

10-Yard Fight script

How's it going, folks? I have a couple of video scripts ready for production, but I'm kind of at an impasse on editing until some related items I have on order for both videos arrive. They should be here today, I hope! In the meantime, here's the script for the first of them, 10-Yard Fight. I'll be leaving town for E3 early Sunday, and I'm going to do my best to have material for three videos prepped to take with me to work on during my long, boring plane trips...

One final video for May: Good Nintentions #012

I'm trying to get back onto my old schedule of producing at least one video per week, if not more. So here's a second video for this week: Episode 12 of Good Nintentions. Yeah, it says episode 11 in the title card. Gotta fix that.

Two more games until Good Nintentions 1985 is wrapped up. That's pretty exciting, I have to say.

Thanks for your support this month! I have some big plans for June, including a backer request episode, a long-developing new project or two, and... ...

The next step

I don't know if anyone noticed, but a few days ago I quietly changed the Patreon goal tiers around a little bit, including switching Anatomy of Games videos from $1500/mo. to $1250/mo. And, lo and behold, over the weekend the campaign jumped above $1250. In other words, expect more video types! Now, it's going to take me a little while to catch up from my dead computer setback, and E3 is a few weeks away, but you can definitely expect the first Anatomy video before the end of June. (No, i...

Miraculously, Good Nintentions #010 appears

Surprise! I was able to put together an episode for this week after all. Fortunately I was well into the video production process for this when my computer died, and my wife let me set up camp on her system for the weekend. (And after losing way too much data over the years, I keep everything I create duplicated with both a local backup and Dropbox, so it would take something close to a nuclear event to completely wipe my work.)  So, huzzah! And I have a non-dead computer on its way to me s...
