Patreon Wizard Reward: March/April

Thank you to Dash4rd, who submitted the winning idea for one half of the double reward!  Here we have a lucky clover sprig finding a lucky penny!  Wonder where he found it.

Sprigs are naturally curious but shy.  They’ve been known to collect small objects when they think nobody is around.  Maybe this little guy stumbled upon a change jar or got under a desk!

On April 28th the Beyond the Pale RPG Patreon crossed $1600 and 100 Patrons!  This threshold marks the point where I can work on the project full time, fulfilling a dream I've had now for years.

Thank you to everyone who has put their support behind me and the project, through the good times and the bad.  Without all of you, there'd be no project, not like there is today.  I can't properly express how grateful and honored I am to have this help in reaching my dream.

I will be continuing to put hard work into the game, produce more updates and release more artwork.  Work on mechanics is still being done and the lore is the most cohesive and unified as it's ever been.

This world has been in my head for more than a decade.  And with your support and encouragement, I've been able to bring what is in my head into reality.

Wizard Reward Poll

Additional note:  I have noticed that some Wizard tier Patrons are not making suggestions.  That's entirely fine but I'd like to remind you that if you've pledged $20 or more, you're absolutely encouraged to make a suggestion each month!

Wizard Art Reward: May

All submissions should follow the following three requirements:

• Should be "Safe for Work" (ie: No nudity)
• Should be relatively simple in concept and execution (Please do not request large scale concepts!  They should feature one, maybe two characters)
• Should adhere to the lore of the game.

The final point might be an issue for some, I know.  Not everyone knows the lore in full.  This is why a week is required for the submission process.  If an idea doesn't work or needs tweaking, I am very glad to consult and help get you to a request you want to put forward.

The submission period will last one week, then voting will last 4 days, where all eligible Patrons will vote on the submitted ideas.  The winner's gets turned into artwork.

If your idea doesn't win, there is nothing stopping you from resubmitting it next month.

There is no limit at the moment for how many months an individual's ideas can win.  However, this may be changed if a single Patron overwhelmingly dominates the polls each month.  That will be addressed only if it needs to be.

Wizard Poll: February

Thank you to tsundereanubis, who submitted the winning idea for February.  The idea was "Magical Familiars of Varying Shapes and Sizes" and I decided to take it a step further and add in a witch hanging out with her familiars.

Witches store their arcane magic inside living animals, which they draw out when needed.  This taints the magic with the natural connection animals have to Fairy, giving the witch access to abilities unique to this style of magic at the cost of arcane magic's raw power and potential.

I hope you all like it.

Tomorrow, a new 'double' Wizard reward is going up to make up for missing March.  Each Wizard tier supporter will be able to submit TWO ideas and the resulting poll will take the top two winners.

Pledge Status

Before I say anything, I'll just assure everyone that I'm still working on the project.  That isn't changing.

Due to my financial aid situation, I am going to have to pause all incoming pledges for the foreseeable future.  This means all supporters of any tier will no longer be billed.

You still still retain all benefits.  But until something changes, I won't be able to accept any support.  This will likely be until I can work off the project full time and am not beholden to other sources of financial aid.

I am unable to pull the Patreon page entirely because doing so would sacrifice this account's Founder status.  This means pausing payments each month is the only way I can go forward.

If, at any time, this changes and payments resume, I will be letting everyone know as early as possible (hopefully one month in advance).

In the meantime, I hope you still wish to support the project.  I am so thankful for everyone's help until this point.  Thank you.

Quick Update

Sorry that things have fallen behind.  There's been a personal barrier regarding the Wizard tier rewards but it should be resolved soon.

I'm aware that the March reward was delayed so I will be creating TWO polls in April to make up for it.

I hope it isn't too much of a problem.  I will make sure that March isn't skipped as a result and everyone gets their money's worth.

Happy New Year and Plans For 2021

First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a wonderful New Year.  I know 2020 hasn't been good for many people, myself included.  I can't say what will come in 2021 but for the time being I hope that everyone is managing okay.

Regarding next year.  I am still working on the beta test, though my aim for a release before 2021 was (in hindsight) too ambitious.  It is still being worked on and I hope to have it done soon.

Regarding new content and updates, I have scheduled out the next several months and hope to have a consistent upload/update schedule going forward.  In particular, the Wizard reward will be making a return, with a scheduled release date for the piece each month.

The hope is that with more consistency more can be done and provided.

Thank you everyone for your continued support, even through the difficult year.  It means so much to me.

Update

Just letting everyone know that content is being produced.  However, with Halloween and the US elections coming up, I have opted to save the relevant lore entries for the second/third week of November to prevent everything being lost in the crush.

Work on the dice beta is going along nicely and I continue to maintain the end-of-year deadline.

Update

Hello everyone.

I'm giving an update on the progress of the hiatus.  I've managed to mitigate or alleviate several issues, however there are still some issues as of right now.

There are things that make the future a bit concerning right now but I feel like I've been on hiatus long enough.

For this reason, I'll be suspending the Patron rewards for one more month but will continue to work on lore entries while also working on mechanics.  If all things go well, Patron rewards will be back up for the month of October.

So this is more of a half-hiatus.  I'll be providing one more update later on for the future, depending on some outcomes for some of these concerns.  Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

Thank you all so much for your patience.  I don't enjoy putting things on hold, but at the time it was my best option.  I look forward to getting back to work.

Announcement

As some of you know, I've been struggling with several issues now for a while.  Financially, I'm in a pretty bad place and mentally I'm not doing well either.  My mental health has deteriorated again and the stress of various financial issues and uncertainties hasn't helped.

As a result, I am going to be going on hiatus for the month of August to try and remedy these issues.  Burn out is something I am trying, desperately, to avoid and I feel like taking time off to address issues and fix them or otherwise mitigate potential future issues will help avoid that.

I understand that some people are going to be unhappy.  I hope you all understand and keep with me for the month while I try and get through all this.

I will be updating a couple times a month.  But there won't be a poll or meetup this month.

For the month I will be making plans to address my physical health, mental health and take steps to find new avenues for financial stability.  

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support the project.  I want to continue working on it and will do so in the months to come.

As an aside, please note that this has nothing to do with those who have reduced their pledges.  The financial issues are not tied directly to anyone's pledges.  They are long term and long standing issues.  I understand in the last few months the pandemic has harmed people's own financial stability and I do not begrudge anyone for looking out for their well being first.

The commission can involve existing characters from the game setting, existing creatures, original characters, self portraits or anything else one could reasonably expect.

Poll Lateness

Hi everyone.  I'm just letting you know I haven't forgotten about the poll.

There was some issues with the payouts this month and when it was resolved the 4th of July weekend had started.  I wanted to wait until it was done before I put anything up.

Update: Health

I am letting you all know right now that I may have Coronavirus.  I am going to be tested and hopefully will have news soon.

I plan on continuing to work on the project regardless of if I have it or not.  New content is on its way.

Sirena Entry Now Available

Another entry for MerMay right at the end.  I wanted to make something a bit more 'traditionally mermaid' after the departure from the classical idea with the selkie.

Patrons and Sales Tax

Because Patreon is now charging sales tax for specific regions, I want to let everyone know that I have reviewed each tier and, hopefully, set each one to a relevant 'reward' for calculating sales tax.

My hope is that this impacts as few as you as possible. Please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss this personally if something comes up or a complication arises.

I know there was a bit of a dry spell this month, but hopefully this'll help!  New lore is on the way thanks to several commissions I've made.  This piece was specifically created for MerMay because I felt it was appropriate!
