My players are terrible at tanking, so I made this landing page to help them with a little educational mockery.

Tanking-- you know, the thing where the person with the full plate and the battleaxe stands in front of the person with the walking stick and the bathrobe. My players are not completely on board with this concept.

Where do I start? How about the wizard? She LOVES opening doors. And if you suggest that front line combat may not be her strongest position, she'll be happy to tell you all about her AC and her mage armor. It's 18, you see. She can't be touched. Do the dice even go that high?...

Brazenthrone - Updated Overview Map

Sorry this is a little late, I had something come up last night before I could get it done. Anyway, here it is! I reserve the right to change 19 and 27 if I come up with a better idea for them, but I'll update the map again if I do.

The print and VTT versions are below. The VTT versions aren't marked with dimensions, they're just a smaller file size you can use as handouts.

All right, time to get started on the Old Quarter!

Brazenthrone - The Eastern Halls

These halls are the "suburbia" of Brazenthrone, which makes them a little hard to say much about. They're where normal dwarves live. They're neither the wealthiest commoner district nor the poorest. The wealthiest is the Promontories, of course. The poorest will be the Hollows, to the west of the 2020-06-03 19:33:07 +0000 UTC View Post

Brazenthrone - The Eastern Halls - Ground Level

These are the residential chambers on the lower-right side of this map surrounding 17, which is the fountain in the center. I've got all three levels of this drawn already, so the rest should be up in a day or two. I just need to color them. I'm also going to update the map in the link to include all the residential chambers. I've been meaning to post my Roll20 ...

This is the main temple of Mystra, the goddess of magic in the Forgotten Realms. In addition to its religious functions, the temple also houses a massive storehouse of magic in the caverns below. More tokens from my game. The party is in Chult, which means we are go for dinosaur cavalry.

These tokens are huge spoilers for my game, but I've banned my players from my site and my patreon so I can give them to you.

The party is deep in the jungles of Chult, having just found their way to the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan. If you're running that, this is nearly all the tokens you need, by the way. The dinosaur cavalry is something I made for an encounter along the way. ...

The Great Hall of Brazenthrone in Minecraft

Brazenthrone - The Hall of Iron - Everyone's Edition

The Hall of Iron is a residential district of Brazenthrone. Admittedly, having nothing but residences, it's not the most exciting part of the city. But a city needs homes and not everyone can live in some kind of dwarven Winchester Mystery House (here, let me 2020-05-12 00:20:57 +0000 UTC View Post

Brazenthrone - The Bloody Hall - Everyone's Edition

Brazenthrone - The Old Mines - Everyone's Edition

Last month, I was making all the patron content for my new maps available to everyone (for reasons explained in this post). I'm going to continue doing so until at least May 18th, which is the date for the end of the lockdown in Ireland (where I live). I hope these maps have been helpful to those of you who have had to bring their games online (and everyone else).

Another odd selection of tokens, including: normal people, world map markers and the thing that used to be called a merrow.

IF YOU ARE ONE OF MY PLAYERS, GO AWAY. DM TALK IS HAPPENING.

Ahem. So, here's the latest bunch of tokens I made for my game. The arrows and X's are for the world map to indicate where the party is or where they're going. I included a few variants for those of you who might have a message you'd like to convey to your players about their behavior.

There's also a bunch of tokens of regular civilians. I started off thinking I'd mostly need monster tokens. You know what I need a token ...

Brazenthrone - Stacked VTT Maps

By request, these are stacked multi-floor VTT maps for Brazenthrone similar to the ones I made for Mont-St-Michel. These are for the Great Hall, Anvil Quarter, Noble Quarter and Common Quarter, which are the chambers I think are big enough to need them.

The Great Hall doesn't include the Promontories since there aren't a lot of connections between that level and those below, meaning parties aren't likely to be bouncing between floors much up there. It doesn't include the fifth level eit...

Brazenthrone - The Gnomestown District - Everyone's Edition

Brazenthrone returns! This is the first of a number of Brazenthrone maps I'll be drawing in a row. Gnomestown is pretty much what it says on the label: a small corner of the city where a lot of the gnomish residents live. Most of these would be deep gnomes, with whom the dwarves of Brazenthrone have a tight relationship.

The "Tavern in the Sky" at (5) is a good place to hang out if you're three feet tall an...

The Library of Gravenhollow - Everyone's Edition

Gravenhollow is an unmapped location in the 5E D&D module Out of the Abyss. It's a place where space and time work differently and a person can travel from one place to another just by thinking about where they want to be.

Since there are quite a few peculiarities of Gravenhollow that make this map a lot less useful than it could be to DMs wanting to use it for something else, I made an ...

A Special Vote

The High Temple of Mystra is the winner of the 19th Cartographic Congress! Thanks to everyone for breaking the tie. There have only ever been two ties in the CC's final vote and I just realized that the Floating Fortress Warship has been one of the finalists in both (17th and 19th). This suggests to me that it...

The Cartographic Congress needs a tie broken.

The Cartographic Congress runoff vote has ended in a tie. This has only happened once before and I'm doing the same thing as last time: opening the vote to all patrons. The poll is here. Please do your duty to democracy and vote.

My first VTT session went great! Also, here's the tokens I made for my next session.

My first time running my game on Roll20 was Saturday and it honestly couldn't have gone better. The only problem we ran into was that some people couldn't see some of the tokens on the map, but I managed to fix that by copying the tokens, deleting them and pasting them back in. No big deal.

All in all, it felt a lot like DMing offline. Previously, my impression was that Roll20 was much more automated than it is. But it mostly just rolls dice and adds modifiers. You've got to determine i...

BOATS!

So, I don't know if ship tokens are actually a thing anyone uses or wants, but I hope they are because I made a bunch of them. If they're not, well, they were only an hour's work, so no big deal.

Originally, I'd planned to make tokens out of the ships from the Vlyn'darastyl map, but they were too small, so I used boats I drew for other maps instead. The only one I drew specifically for this was the 2020-04-11 14:32:55 +0000 UTC View Post

The Drow City of Vlyn'darastyl - Everyone's Edition

The 19th Cartographic Congress Vote FINAL DEATHMATCH

The two finalists will now enter the cage.  Who will leave victorious?

Senator Parker proposes a man-of-war, a massive floating fortress of a ship built to be the flagship of a fleet.

Senator Carl proposes the High Temple of Mystra, a temple, library and storehouse of magic.

This poll will be open until the 11th. EDIT: the 15th.

Thanks to everyone for the advice! Here are some more tokens I made for my game.

First of all, if you're one of my players, go away. Stop reading.

Okay, so I've got most of the next map done, but I've been making these tokens for my game on the side and-- NIAMH, STOP READING-- I thought I'd share. We've got two different flavors of goblin, an orc, a hobgoblin which *ahem* may or may not just be a red version of the orc, a bugbear, a wolf, a grick and an owlbear.

It's an odd selection, I know, but it's what I need for my first online session, which is Cragmaw C...

VTT DMs: I need your advice. I bring you this humble offering of character tokens in return.

For most people, D&D time is chill time and I don't want to let The Stressful Topic You Can't Get Away From intrude on that. So I'll just leave it at this: my game needs to go online. And that means I need to learn to DM on Roll20. The question I have is: Where do I start?

There's a lot out there to learn from, which is good, but it also means there's a lot to sort through and, since we're not talking about 5-minute videos, I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have on what video...
