Little tip: My base sketch to block in heads includes a superman shield shape which follows the cheekbones and outlines the front plane of the face.  I always have elaborate imaginings of environments when I read books, but it’s rare I have the patience to draw them. It was fun to take a stab with this! I tried a mixture of photo bashing and painting here that I think was pretty time effective. I’d like to do more sometime in the future.

Studies - Value Simplification & Color Schemes

Hello Patrons!

Here are some old value simplification and color scheme exercises.

For the value simplification studies, I chose some reference photos off of Pinterest and challenged myself to recreate them using only 2-3 values (black, grey, white). To simplify the images, I tried to group similar values together and view the scene more as shapes than actual objects. This technique is super useful in painting complex scenes.
