Sorry for the quiet over here!

Hey everyone, sorry for a bit of radio silence, it's been a crazy couple of months and it's been 100 mph all the time for a while.

I made an update on Twitter and in the Patreon, but also wanted to post over here-

I will be doing this as nondestructively as possible- moving the resources to Artstation, giving plenty of time for the patrons to set up a new server, etc. This is a step...

What Are Worker Cooperatives?

Last summer, I joined my team at Wild Blue fulltime, primarily working as our lead concept artist.  I have gotten SO many questions since then about what it's like to create a worker cooperative and how they differ from traditional company structures.
This is meant to just touch on some of the basics, but you can find more resources around the web on how co-ops are set up in other industries. We have a unique take on how we've structured our co-op for games, but they come in...

Freelance 101: My Digital Workspace

This is a list of the software I use in my digital workspace. As a remote worker that functions like a freelancer, I find it really important to have tools that smoothen out my day (and year!) I choose software based on what is cheap, doesn't have a ton of unnecessary features that I don't use, and gets the job done without getting in my way.

Art software

I use my 7 year-old copy of Photoshop CS6 to make art. I love CS6. I will never not use CS6 if I can help it. ...

Game Art Portfolio 101

A lot of this advice is based off of my own experiences + my conversations with other professionals. Everyone has their own approach to portfolios, and this is NOT meant to be an all-encompassing guide!  The intent is for this to just be a starting point. I stand pretty confidently by everything in this post, but please look at the advice by other artists so you have a more well-rounded set of information.

Let's get started.

Resume 101

There are a few basic rules when putting together a resume.  I highly recommend Googling other articles/posts/etc about how to put together a great resume so you have a few perspectives on best practices. Take all things I say with a grain of salt.

Let's get started~!

Why I recommend using a traditional format:

Similarly to cover letters, I recommend keeping things pretty traditional for the sake of predictability for the reader. According to a variety of s...

Cover Letter 101

When cover letters are required for a job application, it's important to make sure you make a solid first impression. Whether the recruiter will actually read your cover letter tends to vary, but setting yourself up for success and lining up every factor in your favor is always a good thing!

Everything that I describe below (traditional cover letter formats, suggested length, wordage, etc) has a TON of other resources online that I recommend looking into. I'm honestly just reiterating a...

Creating a Great 2D Art Portfolio for Games

Building a portfolio can feel like a messy, confusing process. What types of art can make your body of work feel more practical? How can your work be more marketable? How can you stand out from the huge crowd?

2D artist roles in games are incredibly competitive, and the bottom 30% of jobs in our industry tend to be heavily oversaturated. That said, a lot of young artists make similar mistakes, and their portfolio can be improved relatively quickly once they have s...

All $5+ Patrons should now have access to the BeccatheRose art feedback Discord, a new tier reward! This is a place *just* for feedback, fellowship, and pet pics. If you have any questions, feedback, or issues, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Please check your spam folders if you're not seeing the invite in your inbox.

Interested in art feedback Discord server?

Wanted to get a gauge on interest for this.

It would be entirely critique/career focused. No link-dropping and leaving. Patrons only, constructive, queer-friendly.

Included in the $5/month Patron reward tier. I only haven't done this already because I'm trying to avoid moderating too many Discords, but I think I could handle this with some help.

How Light Bounces in a Gem

I wanted to explain somewhat more scientifically how to paint a realistic gem, so I created this to clarify how light bounces and reflects to make something beautiful!
