Ibn Battuta - The Mad Sultan - Extra History - #3
This is just becoming a collection of really bad ways to execute people.

Our theme for March/April surveys is ROME: EMPERORS & EMPIRES.
For centuries, Rome dominated the Mediterranean world. In this series, we’ll take a closer look at one episode in this history—perhaps the life of Caesar, Spartacus’ rebellion, or that time Caligula tried to murder his mom with a booby-trapped party yacht. From the Colosseum to the Capitaline, we’ll explore the glory (and the gory) that was Rome.
Some notes about your suggestion...

Normally we release a EC staff poster around the same time as PAX West, but with New Horizons just around the corner, we're all getting a little /too/ into the game.
The poster will be up on the 20th at extracredits.store but we hope you like this little preview for now. The art was done by David Hueso, the excellent artist behind Extra Sci Fi's art.
What animal villager do you picture yourself as?

For when you need to take a side trip to have tea with a dragon, so you can get drunk on immortality.

Hi I hope you like side trips, because boy howdy did Ibn Battuta love them.

Sometimes you just need a little extra immortality. You know. In case the first one breaks. But Monkey King might have taken it a little too far by the end of this video.

Here are the wallpapers from the last two episodes last week, two from Ibn Battuta and one from one of my favorite frame from the Do You Own Your Games?
Sidenote: Do you guys prefer for the wallpapers to be together in one post at the beginning of the week or do you prefer them to be after their respective episodes?

Seemed appropriate for International Women's Day to show off some of the artwork that David's been working on, like this beautiful full piece of the Maid of Orleans
I love how David did the gold on the halo and the stained glass in the background.
And if you want to rewatch her series, as well as the other ladies of history, we put together a big playlist of them here: 2020-03-09 01:19:15 +0000 UTC View Post
Ever since we mentioned him in the Mali series, we've been dying to talk about Battuta. As expected from a guy who wrote a 1000 page travelogue, Ibn Battuta's story is very cool, but the dude has 0 chill.

They might not be books or games or movies that came out in that time, but these are some of the pieces we think you all might like. We also all have wildly different tastes so hopefully, there's a little something for everyone.

ROMs offer a lot of opportunities to save games that would otherwise be abandoned, lost to time and too difficult or expensive to uncover. But there's one BIG question that hangs over this kind of archival work. Are ROMs legal? Nick did such a good job with the art here. Never gonna feel comfortable about Mario ever again.

Just a look at some of the media we really like and think you will too (especially because everyone on the team has such different tastes) The plan was to put out that list on the first of the month... buuuuuuuut... PAX E happened at the end of February.
That list will be out by this Wednesday, just wanted to let you know that we haven't forgotten it! - A

We answer your questions, correct small hiccups we made, and expand on the stories that were too wild, weird, or complicated to fit into the main series. Welcome to this episode of Lies! What about the Polish troops that helped the revolution? Where did we get our numbers from? How does Walpole fit into all of this???

Way back, we used to do some poster-style art of our series. With the new Patreon, we wanted to bring some of that back. David Hueso, the main artist on Extra Sci Fi, did this awesome piece inspired by The Origin of Dragons episode
Who knows? Maybe it will be a physical poster sometime in the future ;)

This series has so much fun artwork and does a great job jumping from more crowded scenes like the one with all of the monkeys to more peaceful frames.
Out of curiosity, do people prefer more simple backgrounds or the detailed ones? (I personally like my wallpapers to have a lot going on, I'm using the monkey friends one right now - A)

We aren't monkeying around with this episode, which was a whooping good time to record. We bring you the one and only, The Monkey King. Also monkeys can have existential dread, who knew?

We couldn't decide between either of these wallpapers so have a bonus one for the end of the series!

The form to submit questions to Extra Breakfast is now open! We want to include you all at the breakfast table so please submit any thoughts or questions you have on the week's topics and we'll randomly select a handful to discuss on the show.
This week's topics are Ninja (and his comments on "it's just a game"), Animal Crossing, and Subtitles!
This is still a really new format that we're playing around with, so we'll also be experimenting around with how we ask/answer quest...

And here we come full circle. After fighting France for their freedom, then uniting against international powers, you would expect that the fighting would be over for Haiti. But Napoleon Bonaparte had different plans. He would send 80,000 men under the command of Charles Leclerc to fight and arrest Louverture. But Louverure's words will prove to be prophetic. And when the diplomatic Louverture is removed from the picture, France will have to reckon with the wrath of Dessalines.
We've seen a lot of people returning to our 1918 Flu Pandemic series and drawing comparisons between that outbreak and the recent Coronavirus scare. Lead writer of Extra History Robert Rath (who lives in Hong Kong) provides a short video retrospective on the series in light of recent events, describes the quirks of life under voluntary self-quarantine, and shows us his castle of toilet paper and hand soap. Please note that this video was filmed on February 18th, and conditions may have ...
