Spiritual energy always moved. Whether it was qi, essence, or lifeforce. Like all things alive, stagnation of these fundamental forces meant death of the organism.
But there was a pattern to the movement. And within Yu Han’s body, that pattern resembled a loop.
He had pathways. Networks of meridians that acted as vessels for these esoteric forces to travel in. As his body was tempered and he increased in level, physical fitness, and assimilation of true qi, more pathways ...

“Don’t tell this to anyone,” the qi-gathering law enforcer senior sister said with crossed arms. “Just today three more demonic cultivators were apprehended in the city. I’m only telling you guys because Chief Tan trusts you. So you can’t tell anyone, okay?”
“Which Cheif Tan?” Yu Han asked despite knowing the answer. “There has to be more than one.”
“There’s only one on duty,” she replied.
“What about our courtyard members? Can we tell them?” ...

Sorry for the delays guys T.T Work has picked up. I have a bunch of office trips this month, and was in another city.
“They say you passed the stewardship exam,” Li Yao said. “But you didn’t take the position.”
That meant Li Tieniu was in the qi-gathering realm, but didn’t meet one or more of the other requirements for inner-court promotion yet. The most obvious was the age requirement, and Li Tieniu looked at least as old as Father.
Sun Tao, on the other ...

All around, disciples perked up their ears. Yu Han would bet money that they too were part of some group or gang. Maybe even courtyards and pavilions?
But why?
“Yu Han, my friend,” one of the thugs said. “That lamb looking fresh as a wench’s fat arse.”
“And you are?” he asked.
The thug reached for the lamb but Yu Han pulled the plate away.
The thug’s face fell. “Now that ain’t fair. A good cultivator is one who shares. That’s what the...

“Junior Fuyu, your story is too bright to be trapped all day in dark rooms. Live a little, why don’t you?” Shu Boyan said as he stood up.
Oof. Dude. You can’t say that to a lady.
The lady in question didn’t reply. She pointed at the door.
Shu Boyan raised an eyebrow.
“Out,” she commanded.
The three men walked out. The paper door slid back in place, and the wooden gates closed with a slow thud. The latches locked.
The lady was a master...

Author's Note: Just a reminder that it has been 198 days since Yu Han got his past life memories back.
Shu Boyan led them through another corridor, heading again from the bustling temple square towards the inner, quieter courtyards. It was a different direction from where the troupe had practised their play. Fewer temple-goers and more temple-workers crossed their paths.
After a few turns and intersections, disciples who were obviously some kind of securit...

The Wisping Serpent Isthmus lived up to its name. It was a narrow strip of land between two different wetlands; one was a swamp with trees and the other a marsh with reeds and bushes.
The strip was certainly serpentine. It turned and curved and coiled. And more importantly, there were a lot of wisps here. Fireflies that flew in swarms, large mosquitoes with faintly illuminated red wings, and snails that lit up ever so slightly the surfaces they traversed on.
Gu of the skies...

Huang Niuniu had recently bought a new set of wearables from a courtyard of undersea fishermen.
They hunted with spears and tridents whilst swimming under the cold waters. Their garbs, expensive though they might, fit right in with Huang Niuniu’s preferred method of cultivation.
Of submerging herself in rivers to talk with wisps.
The only problem? The garbs were far more risque than she would have liked, if that was the right term to use.
They didn’t show skin, of ...

Though the centrum and the marketplace were technically not the same thing, to most sect disciples, they used the terms interchangeably. The centrum referred to the area surrounding the Administration Hall, from which the well-maintained roads to the outer sect branches of the other 17 halls led. They went from valley to valley, mountain to mountain. The whole area was probably larger than Riversong Commandery City, Li Yao’s home town. Though it had fewer people. Pa always said the less peo...

Fang Zhao didn’t know the exact distance between their location and the Viridian Glade Gateway Village.
But it was far.
At least a hundred kilometres.
He walked down the mountain at a brisk pace.
The peak was covered by the remnant light from the heavenly thunder. It formed a hazy sphere, as if it was a ball of mist hiding its contents.
Could it be that this cat is even more ancient than she let on? He wouldn’t ask out loud of course. He would rather...

The mirror portal was a cylinder, reaching from the interior part of the clam to the clamshell’s exterior. The surface of the cylinder gave off a smooth, reflective feeling. It was mirror-like, with hints of green.
But this cylinder wasn’t connected to anything else.
Unlike the ink-sac that had appeared after his second bloodline awakening, Yu Han didn’t think this cylindrical mirror was something intrinsic to himself. He couldn’t think of it as part of his power....

If this tendril gets damaged somehow, will I lose lifeforce? There was no way to test that.
Or…
Was there?
He moved the tendril around erratically, through the bed, the unlit brazier, the ground. No matter what it hit, lifeforce didn’t drop nor did he do any damage.
It didn’t seem to cost any qi or essence either; none of the spiritual energies. Maybe he had to hit a monstrous beast?
Can it go through anything, though?
An idea...

“Like it or not, you have a unique identity,” Dong Tianlan spoke with conviction as her eyes moved up and down Fang Zhao.

Dong Tianlan continued, fiddling with her sleeves. “You are an apex noble of the Great Xia Dynasty’s divine capital, yet you are exiled. The Night Alchemists’ Yard was a foul-smelling ranch in the middle of nowhere. It was the intersection of sewage and muck, where smells gathered to turn into stink.
The forest had been cleared, making this part of the mountain look like a partially shaved head.
The main gate was old; the inscribed “Alchemists of the Night” on the pillar was cracked and looked weird under moonlight, as if dripping with rusty water. The moss-covered fences stretched from both sides of t...

The man was perhaps a few decades older than Yu Han. It was hard to tell with cultivators. The lifespan increase before core formation wasn’t much, apparently. But they did tend to live longer unless forcefully being stopped.
The print of age on this one’s face was clear. That made Yu Han frown internally.
Most cultivators of refined talent and higher would reach the qi gathering before a required age, then move on to the inner sect. That meant shifting to the inner s...

Johan’s therapist had been confused by him. She couldn’t tell if he was a plain-old narcissist or just a severe avoidant.
Most would agree on the former. Even Johan.
But dad said he had developmental problems. The bullies in school called him autistic. Other psychologists and their ilk tried to write research papers on him. Well, not actually on him. He would’ve been just one number in the statistics for their longitudinal studies. That hurt Johan’s pride, so he didn’t g...

Fei Rui wasn’t there. From inside the dreamscape, Yu Han couldn’t sense what was happening outside. Had his flesh melted off his bones? Did his feet turn to cinders? Did all his fat dissolve into the soup?
Wouldn’t that be nice.
His inner image, the ‘dreamscape body’ so to speak, was naked. He echoed a set of robes.
The dreamscape was more organised now. There was a bed and a couch. The modern varieties. A nightstand beside the bed held a glowstone lamp. A...

Not all stone tank cesspools were in use. Some had been built thousands of years ago, long discarded into mere remnants of their slimy past.
There were many a reason for this. Changing layout of the Outer Sect Centrum, internal politics, purposeful subterfuge, disasters. Most were retaken by nature, turning into burrows for beasts such as bats and rabbits. A significant many turned into the playgrounds for the Gorge-Crawling Earthworm tribe.
They were in one such abandoned ...
