Thiraah Process!

So, as promised... I’m posting a more detailed process of how I normally color the face!

1. Once the flats are done, I start drawing where the shadows should be. Getting this down took a bit of studying and practicing over time too, but generally the eye sockets, the jaw, and the nostril area are the most heavily shaded. It doesn’t have to be too neatly done, since on step 2...
2. I then take the eraser tool and refine the shapes into something that looks better

Elfie Process!

After posting the process for the fel druid, I thought I’d write more about such things. My techniques are a strange and constantly evolving thing (as some of you might have noticed, looking at my drawings from even a few months ago :P), but this is what works for me currently! The Green Goo Behind Felkin

For the Felkin commission, one of the requests was for a background scenery behind the fel druid. I don’t often draw backgrounds, so it took a bit of experimentation and playing around, and I thought I’d share the process here!

1. I forgot who said it, but the trick to drawing backgrounds is to just start putting down colors. In my sketch I had the concept of a tree stump, with green fel goo oozing out of it. Captain Lacroix

Captain Amari is my favorite skin for Ana, and I’ve always been interested in finding out more about Amélie’s past... These combined into the urge to draw Amélie when she was still (in my headcanon) part of Overwatch. :P Honestly my heart melts for Good!Amélie, so this entire process was an exercise in giddiness. I followed the same drawing steps I followed for Miku, although I did clean up the pencil lines more thoroughly.

Over the first weekend of August, I experimented with a different way of drawing... Instead of pencilling, inking, then coloring, I started to pencil, fill in the flats, then refine the lines with darker ink. The hope that it would give the whole drawing a more organic look, as opposed to it having very cleanly defined lines...

Rocket Angel!

I’ve always wanted to see Pharah carry Mercy into the sky, since Mercy can’t fly like Pharah... On a more personal note, I do need more practice on drawing scenes involving two or more people (figuring out where to put all the limbs is harder than it looks!), so this also serves that purpose. You know, besides fulfilling my Pharmercy fantasies.

The Malt Shop Process

Irismachine suggested a little malt shop date scene when I was trying to brainstorm, and I thought it was a cool idea... :P I rarely draw people in casual clothes, so I was stressing a little on the outfits and color scheme. I wanted them to look slightly era-appropriate (1940s), and I also picked mostly matte and pastel colors to go with the fashion. The whole composition and the actual process of finishing the drawing took a while, but I think I really like how it turned out! Anything for 🚀...

PRIDE IN THE SKY

Guys I’ve been swamped, but here, I’m finally posting the process for the Pride piece! I want it to be some kind of parade in the sky? That’s why they are both facing the same direction, with the staff and the flow of the stream further emphasizing that. I also totally threw out all self-control and splattered the whole thing with sparkles and glimmer. Because HEY, IT’S PRIDE.

The Junker Process

Because I literally moved from posting Junker D.Va to the bed last night, here’s the process of that drawing... I used a lot of orange/rust/yellow tones to get that Mad Max look for this. I also muted the brightness and contrast in the bottom right corner to give it an over-exposure feel. Does that count as cheating? xD

I learned from working on Lamb and this OC that lighting and a dramatic background can really enhance the mood and atmosphere of a drawing! In a way the Elise/Widowmaker piece also improved greatly after I cast that red light and added a purply tint to the whole piece.

Lamb In Process!

I never played Kindred, but I always loved the design and lore of those two. So for Lamb, I decided to go with a backlit scene that emphasizes highlights more than shading for a mysterious and fantastical scene. I’ve always been trying to stay way from using purple too much (because I use purple A LOT), but I think it works nicely here as mood lighting. :P This drawing was also a great excuse for me to splatter on the sparkles, so I enjoyed that very much too. xD
