Won't lie, October as a month has defeated me in many ways and this piece has as well. Sometimes artwork just doesn't turn out how you want it to and you have to cap it off, and tell yourself you'll do betting next time...

Previously shared the line work for him front view a while back but I wasn't quite happy with the facial expression and the some of the angles of the pose.
I tend to shelf sketches for a while that I really want to get right. I think coming at them with a 'new-eye' sometime later has benefited a number of pieces. It could be something like the character's proportions or anatomy that i feel is a little off but can't quite put my finger on it at that time. Coming back to a piece can...

A ref sheet that's a set of mini scenes! Lineart is now done, so next is onto full colour.
It's great to be able to tell a bit of a story and add some context to the character by setting them in scenes. I've also gotten to practice drawing feet ;)

Kinda hard to fit it all in frame so this piece has been growing a little larger everytime i've come back to it ;)

This sketch has been through a few changes and i'm happy to have finally made something of him!
I went with the North American spotted draft horse as a colour palette, because what better way to get painted?
He will go to auction on FA in a month's time as an adoptable. The winning bid will receive a higher-res version, unwatermarked .png and the rights to the character.

I had the image in-mind of a huge sack swinging from side-to-side, and here he is!
This adoptable lad is a bit of a thicc hunk with a passion for apples and working hard. The first thing you'll notice when he walks into a room are his massive, hooves, which he likes to polish and trim. You know what they say about a a guy with big hooves: damn, that's some big, horse shoes...

Always liked the symbolic 'chargers' used on coats of arms.
Based on those of the British isles I was trying to incorporate: unicorn, Welsh dragon, Irish Elk... but I can't quite figure out where the Lion is going to fit! 😣

I originally started with the sketch on the left in another piece some time back. I thought however that the character design was a little wasted and it would be better to fully flesh him out instead. I liked the initial idea of a draft horse that was a bit more tall and thin rather than the stocky lads i've been drawing.
I just need to figure out the colour palette!
I currently have 3 other adoptable horses in progress, next one i'll release will be next week in full and complete...
