October Snapshot #2 + 'Liquid Progeny' Animation

Welcome back to a 'not so spooky' snapshot on projects lately!

Since last time I've taken time to enjoy personal projects and pace myself in ongoing ones I have in production. I am pleased to say that I have effectively completed the 50% threshold for both projects, from this point it'll be inbetweening the shots, smoothing out animations and polishing any blemishes I come across. One will involve color so that may take a bit longer but both are well on their way to release very s...

October Snapshot #1

Greetings everyone!

Its time once again to examine a few of the dailies and overviews of what's been happening these past few weeks.

So as you know I've been reformulating a few strategies on how I can develop more concrete 'soft deadlines' for projects. The easiest metric would be by how many seconds I accomplish each week. I've looked at a few methods and tried an experiment in the past week or so with massively increase my workload to see what kind of affect that would have.&nb...

September Snapshot #2 + 'Bun Sausage' Animation

Welcome back to another snapshot! I wanted to offer a warm welcome all the newcomers to my blog of ideas and content, thanks for supporting my coffee budget! That goes the same for all of you, its been very motivating!

On to the business...

I've been exceptionally busy these past two weeks formulating innumerable sketches and draft designs for various concepts. Both my animation projects are well underway and I can say that in my effort all the keys for both hav...

September Snapshot #1

I hope your closing weeks of summer have been fruitful!

I wanted to cover several different things with this snapshot posting since I've noticed a few trends and have plans to make changes (as I normally do). Most of it will cover how I post material, how animations will be produced and what my prospects in project work will start to look like in the next few months.

Presentation Changes:

So given my current workflow I plan on continuing my long-term project...

August Snapshot #1

Hey everyone! Its been a busy and exciting month for me, plenty of projects moving through the pipeline and a few more already nearing completion very soon!

Avatars & bi-weekly prototyping:

I've had such a good reception with the last few submissions in my scraps that I thought given the time my projects tend to take (usually months) I would be a bit proactive by posting some concepts animatics and random ideas in that gallery once every couple of w...

July Snapshot #2

Greetings everyone ^^ Its time for another snapshot covering this week's work which involves a new project! I'll be pairing up some screenshots for you to check out since there's plenty of things to follow in the pipeline. Following the reception to my marathon posting, I might just consider making it a monthly event (thanks to all of you who have supported it, it was good fun!) I've also considered going back to some of the older work and refurbishing them - perhaps with a community vote on ...

July Snapshot #1

Greetings and merry July to you all! This is more of a filler week as I'm between projects and the current ongoing ones need a little more development before I can reveal interesting screenshots. Soooo, having saved this for a rainy day I thought I would share with you a less talked about but crucially important aspect of being a traditional animator.

Life drawing!

Having a solid and fundamental understanding of surface, form, perspective and shape can really improve y...

June Snapshot #2

Greetings!

As I continue to melt in these warming conditions, I have finally put together a little piece for you guys to enjoy concerning my animation process. For this example, I'll be using one of my active projects to demonstrate how I break down a scene.

Before I begin I should cover two important aspects to animation that can influence how they develop. One technique is called a straight-ahead, sort of like creating a flip book, you keep drawing new sequential images to give ...

June Snapshot #1

Hello interwebs! A merry summer or winter to you! (depending on what pole you're leaning closer to!) This week I wanted to dive a bit into the animation process for one of my projects and show you guys some of the inner workings on things I've been testing out and refining. However due to a few issues with my Linux partition and progression with things I decided to postpone that for next time. Instead, I wanted to give you an taste of things I've been experimenting with late...

May Snapshot #2 + Rework on Commission Process

A very merry Friday to you all! As you are well aware, I've started a fresh project from last time I posted illustrating some preview shots. This week, I wanted to get into the nitty gritty of the project's design.

With each successive project I make a point of focusing on improving some aspect of my workflow be it aesthetically, technically or in some other form that it applies. If you have been following my work you will have noticed that most of my animations tend to be done in a sor...

May Snapshot #1

A mouse, a demon and a goblin walk into a bar... or fall into a bed? Regardless, a new project is underway! Who knows where the adventures of these three may lead!

I also wanted to take a moment to discuss some plans for changes in the future. As mentioned in earlier postings I wanted to see how things panned out with the unfurling of my commission structure. Now that I've had time to observe what works and what doesn't, you can expect to see changes sometime around June, earl...

April Snapshot #1

Greetings once again!

This week's snapshot tends to capture what I've often experienced in late-stage productions, that being the subtlety of inbetween drawings.

What's an inbetween? Basically its the increment of drawings that tie together the storytelling frames, that being the Key frames, and the transitional actions and/or secondary actions being the Breakdown frames. Inbetweens have a duality to their function, as they are the frames that fill the gaps, they play the mo...

March Snapshot #2

Greetings! I've come with only a snippet for show and tell this week but that's mainly due to my focus on working out the in-betweens for all my active projects. The finish lines is rapidly approaching, no release dates yet though!

On a separate smaller tangent, you might have noticed that I take certain liberties with hands in earlier animations. Usually relegating them to masses that mimic the form, usually for the sake of focusing on other aspects of animations I work on, be they tra...

March Snapshot #1

Greetings viewers! This week I thought I would delve a bit into explaining the evolution of my workflow. Seeing as how snapshots are great opportunities to show off the progression of work (like the one featured above), its also a chance for me to throw about random thoughts and share ideas.

Animation in itself is a lot of work, but making it look presentable from concept to finished product can be more involved than most might think. The attached gifs illustrate some of the steps I tak...

February Snapshot #2 + Ideas

Greetings and salutations once again! ^^ Here's a snapshot of some of the work covered since the last post. As mentioned I've been working on 4's to bring the scene together much quicker. This has been useful for correcting the timing of some shots and panels so it feels a bit tighter in the flow of things.

In other news, I've been developing my platform for Patrons and, separately, the workflow I go about projects. Producin...

February Snapshot #1

Here's a preview of one of this week's projects. This shot uses a distorted worm-eye's perspective of a subject changing size and shape. I'm currently working in 4's (six pictures a second) to build up the flow and visualize the scene faster - this helps with making any adjustments about the timing, positions, look etc. Its also at this stage I start doing some character acting by giving them nuance to movements or at least setting them up to flow into or out of actions in a more appealing wa...

Animatic Work Process

Greetings! As I've been busy with irl stuff, moving between homes and whatnot, I haven't had as much time as I'd like to focus my efforts on animation projects. However, that didn't stop me from making some headway with each of projects I do have going on.

This one, currently untitled, is the start of a new non-private project featuring several storyboards and laica reels. Since I didn't have a lot of time to commit to any involved animation work I wanted to take my time with planning ...

New Studio!

Since I'm between public projects I thought I'd shed light on a side project I have busy with as well. I'm currently moving locations and the new place needed some fixing up. That said, this quarter will be hosting my studio work for all future animations :3

More animation bells and whistles are coming up in a few weeks! Stay tuned!
